It seems like an unusually high number of threads in that forum are accidentally tagged with either first generation or transfer. The students don’t know how their thread got tagged with those options.

@CC_Sorin - I’ve noticed the same thing.
I changed something that hopefully will solve the issue. We were asking students to select at least 1 tag when posting in that forum and I suspect that was generating this situation. I removed that requirement now and no tags are currently required in order to post.

I did not tag this thread with either first generation or transfer. Unless someone else came in and tagged it for me, the system must be picking up words/phrases from my first post.

@CC_Sorin would you check behind the scenes to see if the old settings were the problem with the tags in this thread title? (See lkg post above)
Oh, yes. I remember now. That’s indeed what’s going on here. Should this setting be reversed? Does it inaccurately tag posts?

Yes it does. The template includes the words first-generation and transfer.
Other special factors: (first generation to college, legacy, recruitable athlete, etc.)
College GPA: (for transfer applicants)

The current logic is that the post contains “first generation” and/or “transfer” the tags are automatically added by the system. In this case the logic is flawed because the template contains those words so all posts are flagged incorrectly. I’ve asked @CC_Jon to change this setting.

Are those the only two words that are automatically detected and tagged?
I am not 100% sure, but they are definitely on the list. I’ll propose we revert all the auto-tagging.

Are school tags also automatically added? For example, see all the tags in this new thread. I think this is useful, so maybe instead of getting rid of all auto-tagging, only remove “first gen” and “transfer” from the auto tag list? (If that’s possible)
