TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@3TXBoys UTK = Tennessee Knoxville?

@52AG82 University of Tennessee Knoxville. It’s an incredible school in the cutest town

@3TXBoys yes! My daughter and I toured there lass summer. Out of the 12 schools we toured (half SEC, 4 Cali-Stanford, Pepperdine, USC, UCLA, Baylor & Clemson)-hands down Tennessee had THE BEST tour! We absolutely fell in love with the campus & town! UTK wasn’t even on our tour radar, but we literally drove thru, from Vanderbilt to Clemson, so stopped for a tour.
Loved it so much, daughter applied & got accepted! That’s where the love stops. She was offered in state tuition, then hasn’t heard another word from them since. Nothing. Wanted to love it, really thought she might go there, but not a single ounce of communication since sending her the cool ‘Rocky Top’ acceptance card.
She accepted TAMU Business Honors program/NSC last night, after much prayer & deliberation where to go. She will be a 3rd generation Aggie Business Major, so we’re pleased.
Your son has some great choices! I’m partial to Baylor, as that’s where I went. Good luck!

@futurenurse99

I was just reading over the PSA program while I was reorganizing all of my A&M CollegeConfidential notes. Some people like this program and other’s don’t. It is, however, guaranteed acceptance to your major of Allied or Public Health.

If you are offerd PSA, the system school doesn’t have to offer your major. When you accept PSA though your AIS portal, all of your information is then sent by A&M to the System Institution. You are part of the specific program, not an independent student applying to that specific school.

The major choice at the System Institution does not matter. All that matters is that the System Institution will allow you to take the courses you need for your intended PSA major at TAMU.

http://admissions.tamu.edu/psa

Program for System Admission or PSA stands for the Program for System Admission offers students who are denied freshman admission the opportunity to enroll in a Texas A&M system school for ONE YEAR with the intention of achieving GUARANTEED TRANSFER ADMISSION to Texas A&M College Station upon successful completion of the program.

TAMU uses pre-determined class rank/test scores minimums to qualify you for guaranteed admission at various System Institutions. Most students are eligible for automatic admission at all 8 System Institutions, but some students aren’t.

The big advantage of PSA is that it does indeed provide a GUARANTEE of admission for any students who successfully satisfy the requirements. It GUARANTEES admission into a specific major as well.

The PSA was designed for students who are interested in a participating major.

A&M Never recommends using the PSA to be admitted to TAMU with the intention of switching to a major you really want. They recommend taking the coursework and making the grades for your intended major and then applying as a standard transfer student, directly to your intended major.

You can still attend a system school on your own by applying separately, or other institution, but you will have to apply as a regular transfer and go through the competitive process.

Another benefit is that if you wish, you can begin taking classes at the System Institution during the summer after graduation. However, the PSA requires the students to complete TWO LONG SEMESTERS at the System Institution to be eligible for automatic admission. Taking summer courses is also very important if you will need to complete any prerequisite courses (i.e., Math).

To apply to upper level nursing for traditional BSN at TAMU, be familiar with the requirements ahead of time. https://nursing.tamhsc.edu/traditional/index.html

Also, a year out before you are ready to apply to upper levels, you need to get your titers done for Heb B and TB and likely get a booster DPT shot. My DD has applied to upper levels at another university and I cannot tell you the nightmare stories we hear because people wait too long to get it done. She had to repeat the Heb B series and that is a 6 month process and then a Titer test. If you are not immune, you do it again. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. It can take some people 2 series to become immune and your VAX had better be up to date on the day of acceptance to upper levels or you lose your spot. Also, do your fingerprinting before the application deadline.

Know that most Nursing Colleges will weight/give considerations to applicants who attend their university with X number of graded hours, X number of science hours at said school, etc. A&M gives considerations too. Learn them and plan accordingly. Share your knowledge to help others. It is a competitive process everywhere.
My DD has a 3.81 for her sciences and a 3.86 overall GPA with two considerations and in some admissions cycles, that isn’t competitive enough. She finds out in March.

Oh, and one more thing, look at other upper level nursing school requirements way before you are ready to apply. I think A&M only allows you two attempts to get in and most people apply to other schools also. The requirements may not be the same and you want to make sure you have the right classes complete.

@AggieMomhelp - thank you for that info. My son wants to double major in entrepreneurship and finance and Baylo r has it set up so he can complete it in 4 years. Fingers crossed. They gave him a pretty nice financial aid package. TCU gave him a very nice financial aid package - much more generous than Baylor which makes it a contender. We are going to visit this week - first time. TCU wasn’t really on our list but on a whim, he submitted an application. Glad he did. I’m not sure he would want to major in Econ but I guess if he gets accepted to TAMU we could start to look at options. But, like I said, his chances seem to be very slim and he really wants to study entrepreneurship.

So curious if who writes your recs is as important as what they say about you
 I have seen many talk about having had strong Aggie former students who have written recs for their students and we opted to have her teachers write as they could speak to the type of student she was. Have you seen that matter in terms of decision?

@AggieGurl my daughter asked her teachers to write her recs; one is an Aggie (Ag teacher). My husband is an Aggie, and we know plenty of ‘big name donor Ags’, but we chose to ask ppl who know the work ethic of my daughter. That’s the way it SHOULD be

accepted to Blinn TEAM this morning!
Does anyone have experience with this program? Any advice?

@excited4next4 what major?

@AggieDreamin General Studies

@excited4next4 Congratulations
don’t have any advice as we are still waiting. Where did BlinnTeam show up? AIS or Howdy? Do you mind sharing your stats? It would be helpful for us to gage the levels at which BlinnTEAM is being offered.

@AggieDreamin Yesterday I received an email that said “Texas A&M has a message for you. For details check your status in the Applicant Information System at howdy.tamu.edu via the Applicant tab.” In AIS, there was a notification that said all full admission offers had been announced, and it asked if I would like to be considered for admission through the Blinn TEAM program. I clicked the green button: “Yes.” This morning my Howdy Account showed six tabs and the top of my AIS now says “You’ve Been Admitted to Blinn TEAM!”

Of the many, many of folks active on this forum waiting on decisions, that none of them have reported Blinn Team admissions if those are coming out, please forgive us @excited4next4 if folks are skeptical of a poster who registers just to announce their admissions decision, with no other information

Would you mind sharing your stats and what major you applied to?

@exited4next4 yes please share your stats. Sounds like are posting admission nightly and we just check in the morning.

@exited4next4 and CONGRATS !!!

@Thelma2 I have been actively following this forum since I applied in September and posted my decision with the intention of learning more about the program from other Aggies who are going through the same process.
I am sharing this information because I assumed other applicants would want to know that Blinn is beginning to announce admission decisions.

@excited4next4 Absolutely other applicants want to know that Blinn Team is beginning to announce admissions decisions. I know they would all be interested in your stats, so that they can compare to their won. Would you mind sharing?

This link is loaded with information about the Blinn Team Program http://blinnteam.tamu.edu/

Check out the Admission Agreements link. Several colleges and departments at Texas A&M have created “Pathway Agreements” which guarantee direct entry for TEAM students if the criteria are met.

So all full admissions have been announced
