TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@nervoustamumommy would you mind sharing the name of these apartments?

@angsmi. The offer to Engineering at Galveston is by the main TAMU Admissions in CS.

@agnsmi correct.

We took quick tours round 3 off campus housing/apartments yesterday - all v close to main A&M campus each offering many of the same things/features yet with variations too… Callaway House; The Standard & Traditions. Just an FYI - some places have ‘specials’ running this week only (yet maybe they tell everyone that every week :wink: where you don’t have to put down a deposit, pay an application fee etc. but once you sign a lease that’s you committed to paying or finding a relet if for any reason you choose to move out. Some apartments did have a ‘get out’ clause should you choose sign but then be able to show a rejection letter/not receive a full A&M offer (eg. PSA). BUT please read the small print very carefully as each place is a little different on their wording for this issue. There appear to be many, many off campus options but we did find out White Creek Apartments are only for full A&M or Blinn TEAM students - so should anyone be considering straight Blinn CC this particular housing complex would not be an available option.

When one is offered Gateway, are they also given other options? (For example, could you be given the option between TEAM or gateway?)

this might be known information but I just contacted admissions through the ais thinking about changing my major. if you go to change major on howdy and click the pull-down menu, any major not on there is full, just an fyi

@noah4151 Did they happen to say what the ramifications were in the admissions process if you did change major? Also, if you go that route, can you cancel at any time? Or does the change major request get recorded as soon as you click the button?

@JaceyK if you go to the howdy portal>my application>manage application>change major it will list everything that goes with changing your major. this was our full dialog

me- Howdy! I was hoping to change my major, however, one of the majors I wanted to change to wasn’t on the list. Does that mean the college is full?

them-If a major is not on the list, it is full.

they were straight to the point

@stillhopeful581 If you are offered gateway, you are not offered any other Admissions options.

Changing majors will not afftect your admissions decision at all or the type of decision you will be offered. Your admissions decision is based on your application, not your major.

If you want to change your major, except those that are full-that would be impossible, you can do so after you receive an offer of full admissions and before you attend your NSC.

What if I want to change my major?
Freshman

Admitted Freshman students may request a change of major via the Howdy Portal, up to 3 days prior to their NSC. Select the Applicant Tab and ‘Manage Applications.’ The last time you will be able to request a change of major is during Check-In on Day 1 of your NSC Date, provided that major is participating in your currently scheduled NSC.

Please be aware that a change of major is never guaranteed. A change of major may mean a change in your NSC date; therefore, verify that your new college is participating in the NSC in which you are currently registered. If not, you must reschedule your conference.

Feel free to direct any questions concerning change of majors to the Office of Admissions using the ‘Contact Us’ link on the Applicant Information System.https://newaggie.tamu.edu/faqs/

If you are offered Blinn Team, application major is no longer relevant and you will elect to follow a major pathway when you co enroll with Blinn Team. It is not an automatic process that you follow the major you applied to TAMU with. as only a few majors are actually partnered with Admissions Agreements. Even with that, you will sign onto an Admission Agreement, it is not automatic based on your apply Texas application requested major.

All right, please show the thread or comments about Just enrolling into Blinn then transferring into TAMU after the first year, someone was talking about this earlier but there is A LOT of info here and BTW…I cannot thank you enough, this has been so incredibly helpful!!! Thank your for you time!!

@JaceyK I tried just getting some input over the phone if my (minor) daughter goes the straight BLINN route the first year and I was told “I don’t know” to every question I asked! I’m going to have her try to get info from Blinn and tell her to look at the courses listed under the PTA program and hope for the best.

@angsmi do you have a specific question? Your child got Galveston. If you go straight Blinn you’ll need Brenham academy. You’ll apply directly to that campus. Why wouldn’t you want Galveston?

@angsmi Surely, you jest.

“All right, please show the thread or comments about Just enrolling into Blinn then transferring into TAMU after the first year, someone was talking about this earlier but there is A LOT of info here”.

@Thelma2, haha, yes, you are soo so correct. One of my crazy teen son’s options to be close to his friends in College station. He needs to go to TAMUG and decide which engineer, if at all, he wants to be then go to TAMU college station. I think his ego is hurt and wishes he had changed his major.

@Thelma2, I think it sounds great. We live in Houston so my son is wanting further from home and with his friends at Tamu cstat. I think he is bummed.

@angsmi if your son changes majors then google his major for transfer at Tamu. It will list the required courses, credits and minimum gpa.

@angsmi If your son’s stats are as were previously posted, be aware that both his rank and SAT score are borderline or lower than previous year’s admissions of any kind that we saw here. I think we would all suggest that he needs to reconsider his reaction to this offer if he intends to continue in Engineering at TAMU.

@MomHopesNxtGenAg, I totally agree. The thing is…he isn’t sure he wants to do engineering and hindsight, wishes he would have changed his major. He is just doing what friends are doing and fathers are telling him to do.
I think one benefit from TAMUG, as well as others, is he will be able to explore many different engineering options before deciding yes or no. Truly wishes he would have applied general or undecided.

What type of applicants usually get Gateway? The reason I ask is that I have the same exact stats (Rank: 27% and SAT 1290) as a friend who got TEAM, however I am stronger in the EC/LOR/Essay piece. I have been brushing the possibility of getting Gateway off for awhile now, but am beginning to wonder if it is more of a possibility for me than TEAM, if admitted at all.

@txmomuv2 we are at Z-Islander and love it. It is in Bryan, but it’s really not far at all, and I think my daughter prefers that there is a tiny bit less traffic but still super close to all the fun. We looked at so many. Reveille Ranch, which is right nextdoor is a popular one, many of the two complexes co-mingle so it’s almost like two giant complexes of fun to be had. I’ll look at my list, I have several I toured. We ultimately decided on Z-Islander because the price, amenities, and atmosphere couldn’t be beat. Kind of a tiny city within a city. Nicely furnished which also helped, WiFi and cable included. She’s extremely happy there. The managers are really cool and when the parents call, they make you feel like they’re watching out for your kiddo, they know my voice by now lol. Security is also good. She’s had a couple of the typical college apartment issues (locked herself out at 2:00 am ??‍♀️, neighbors getting a bit too crazy which is often unavoidable) and they were on it fast. The head security guy gave me his number should I ever get worried. Love it!
