We got a Blinn Team offer this morning. When I looked at the pathway agreements I don’t see one for animal science. I saw on here that you can transfer after a year rather than completing the 60 hours at Blinn.
Question: Since there is no path for her major, does she just take the basics and then apply for transfer as soon as possible? Is it possible to transfer to full TAMU after one semester? We are not sure she will take the BlinnTeam offer as she has better offers with scholarships from other school. It’s just how bad she wants to be in CSTAT that may drive the decision. I’m sorry if it sounds ungrateful, she was just hoping for full admit.
I’ll post her stats for those still waiting to compare to without having to scroll back and find our original post:
1st quarter non-ranking (private school-really competitive)
3.92 GPA
28 ACT
A lot of ECs including offcampus ECs with very unique criteria.
A TON of volunteer hours at animal shelter plus nursing home and working with special education adults.
The only relative “weakness” (if you can call it that) was a 24 on math subsection of ACT-offset by a 33 in English section.
I hope that helps for some still waiting. We’ve heard that in years past she would have been a full admit so she’s a bit discouraged this morning. Wishing you all the best of luck and hoping you get the offers you want and deserve.
@IT22379 in state designation would make a huge difference. You probably know TAMU has one of the lowest % of OOS, if not the lowest, of any major university in the US. Like 5%, compared to University of Illinois at close to 30% OOS.
Also forgot to say she applied way back in July, so not sure the date order for those applying later matters.
For what it’s worth, when you do the admissions chance calculator on prep scholars, she had an 88% chance of admissions and TAMU was considered a “safe” school. Seems they have to change that for next year! ?
@drm309 that’s what I was thinking we filled out the residency form at UT and they automatically approved him for In-state but TAMU wont let us fill out the residency form till after a year. So basically he is stuck as out of state. Kinda sucks but I get it.
@IT22379 I guess I’m confused. Your son attends high school in another state currently? I’m not sure how/why he would even be considered for In State? What am I missing?
@Bellaire2828 I’ve been waiting to hear about your daughter! Glad she got TEAM offer! And I agree, in other years, she would’ve gotten in right away. I can definitely appreciate her disappointment.
@52AG82 I live and work in Texas permanently but have only been here 7 Months now. I left my family and 3 kids in Illinois where I have a home so my son can finish his Senior year in Illinois, once my kids are done with school in May they are moving down here with me. I claimed them as dependents.
@52AG82 admissions says as long as I pay taxes in Texas and I claim them as dependents and have been in Texas for a year then he will be considered Texas residency.
@52AG82 yeah that is the sucky portion of it and like I said with his circumstance and knowing he will be Texas resident that TAMU couldn’t put that as marker on his application. UT just asked me to fill out residency form and it came back 2 weeks later as he is now a Texas Resident on his application.
@IT22379 well I hope there are still full admission offers out there for you and others. If offered Blinn TEAM you will save money in year one, then your in state will kick in next year. If TEAM is something that would work for your son’s situation.
Hello everyone, I have been reading this forum these couple of months while waiting, finally decided to create a account to post lol. I received all three engineering options this morning , Galveston, McAllen, TEAB. Selected TEAB
Stats (back when I applied)
Date applied: July 1st (day it opened)
Major: Mechanical engineering
Rank: 112/585
Sat: 1230 ( I know, not pretty I struggled lol)
2 letters of rec , and strong essay.
EC: Captain of Robotics team, NHS, engineering club, and a few more that are not to relevant to major.
The only thing that would have set me apart was I had won UIL State 6a for Robotics Team 7797 also a robotics state design award.
I am thankful for everyone posting information on this forum its been a lot of help, hoping the best for those that have not yet heard back. Gig’em
@itf22379 the sad part is, he was an academic admit but y’all didn’t send in his ACT score in time for it to count. SAT you were short, like you said, by 10. That’s the part that has me shaking my head. I would think TAMU would jump on that.
@iluvbadminton We haven’t heard if psyc is full. But if you’re accepted and it’s full, you’ll see it drop off your first choice major and your second choice will show up in both spots.
@drm309 although a full admission is ideal I have spoken to him about Blinn and he is open minded about that but I think he wants to go to somewhere near TAMU and just be part of the campus
Got the 3 engineering options today - if he decides on TAMU he’ll go Blinn but we are still waiting for a full ride decision elsewhere (1st choice by far). That should be released in March…what to do what to doooooooooooo. I don’t want to miss this chance but at the same time he can’t commit when he still hasn’t heard back from the other. Argh. Glad to have this option though for sure!!
