TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@evanpd13 you are 1 hour shy of the limit and therefore, you still will have coursework limitations of what would be available for you to take at Blinn because you already have so much college credit in the courses that are typically taken at Blinn.
To be part of Blinn Team, you must be enrolled in 12 credit hours in Spring and Fall at Blinn and a minimum of 3 hours at A&M each semester. Usually the A&M class is a core curriculum class. - TAMU-Blinn TEAM students are ineligible to register for business major courses at TAMU until fully admitted. Blinn, may not have 24 hours worth of classes for you to take that can be applied to the Mays Admission Agreement or Transfer Course Sheet.

From past admission cycles, and this is my 4th on the forum, applicants this close to the threshold were not offered Blinn Team.

@Thelma2 Gotcha! I find it weird that it’s impossible to do blinn team if you have less than 40 hours but I can definitely understand why and how that limits the amount of classes you get to take. Bummer, looks like i’ll be waiting a year and transferring

@bbfrid LLC living is totally optional. You don’t have to live in the LLC for your major or any other type if you don’t want to. You are not missing out on anything if it isn’t for you. Dorms that host LLC’s also have non LLC residents in them. Students that want to live in an LLC will have room selection before the regular population. Rooms left un-selcted by LLC members will be available for non resident LLC residents when their room selection window opens.

@evanpd13 I definitely understand that being an Aggie myself. Good luck!

@AggieMomhelp sorry for the dumb question ? luckily we have a solid plan B and C! First child applying to a university, oldest is in Blinn for Dental Hygiene so this is a whole new experience. Thanks for the info!

@AggieMomhelp I got admitted to engineering at Galveston. Now is this a good news?

@Thelma2 Hey there, now if i take AP exams will i have to still study a year at Galveston. Since there is no Comp Engineering at Galveston.

@Sriramkrish0110 AP scores or not, you’ll need to spend a year on the Galveston campus, if that’s where you were accepted.

Is anyone else getting the “session timed out or you are not logged in” error when you are trying to login to the housing portal?

Another morning, another Your Application Is Complete and Under Review
lol.

Last night we went to an accepted student dinner hosted by Arizona State. It was fantastic. Parents at one table and students at another each with a rep from ASU. Lots of questions answered and we have a great feeling about the school. Here is the question: My son was accepted to WP Carey School of Business at ASU-his first choice major, Accounting. As of right now, he is still under review at TAMU and the most would get PSA or TEAM. Which we are fine with. However, since Mays was so competitive and his class rank was well below the 10%, his counselor suggested he apply to TAMU as Liberal Arts/PoliSci. So the choice is: Does he go with his first choice university-TAMU/second choice major-PoliSci (IF he gets an offer from alternative offer from TAMU-not his first choice major, with the hopes of transferring to Mays -still very competitive, even after you are admitted, I understand) OR, takes his second choice college-ASU with his first choice major-Business? At this point I realize the decision may be made for him as there is no offer yet from TAMU. Just wanted to throw out for discussion and see what the thoughts are from those of you whose students have gone through TEAM with a transfer of major.

@learner234 you need to give the housing app a day or so to catch up with your acceptance.

@learner234 if you were just given an offer yesterday, most likely means you aren’t fully accepted in the system yet. It could take up to 48 hours. And once you are able to get on, you can’t immediately put down housing deposit-you have things to fill out, an email will be sent to a parent for an electronic signature, parent has to send that back, then you’ll finally be allowed to pay housing deposit. The time between parent email/digital signature alone can take some time
it is definitely a process.

@libbyshims if he is seeking transfer admissions to Mays, please know that it is extremely competitive (probably more so than freshman admissions) - with only 100 spots to fill for transfers (I think I read that somewhere). I guess now it boils down to location and where he would be happy and thrive the most.

@Sriramkrish0110 Take your AP tests because you may want to use the credits down the line to satisfy Core Curriculum classes, which are not to be confused with core engineering classes of 2 maths, 2 sceince and 2 engineering.

In an effort to not have to retype the entire information again, there is a thread under Texas A&M that is all about engineering at Galveston.http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/texas-m-university/2123914-class-of-2023-tamu-engineering-at-galveston-p1.html

There is also a web page for Galveston. Read all the links on the right hand side. https://engineering.tamu.edu/admissions-and-aid/engineering-at-galveston/index.html

Howdy, i was wondering if anyone knows when school scholarships, more specifically corps scholarships, will start to roll out? I read somewhere that it was the beginning of February so maybe they are already giving them out. Any information would be great, thank you!

“Major is irrelevant for admission into tamu as a freshman.”

The college that major falls under sure does otherwise they wouldn’t bother asking for applicants to declare two majors. Geosciences, Psychology, Biology, all different schools. It appears the College of Business is full, as is the College of Engineering. Keep in mind that the College of Liberal Arts has the largest student population of any college on campus, so it only makes sense it would take them longer to determine how many of those auto admits are actually going to attend A&M and how many slots they truly have available to offer.

As for the remaining colleges, I haven’t seen, nor heard anything, that would even imply these other colleges have submitted offers to anyone other than the auto and academic admits. The only people who are stating all the full admit offers have gone out are a few people on this board. And quite honestly, this assumption made on limited data that’s been voluntarily posted on a message board over who knows how long is sending my kid and others into a panic.

Sorry, but I’m going to take the admissions office and school representatives at their word because what they are saying actually matches what we’re seeing. There are ten students from the same AP PLTW program from a nationally ranked high school who have all applied to the College of Science. Not one has heard anything (excluding the academic admit who regards A&M as a safety school). To be honest, they are more concerned with A&M limiting the number of students they accept from any one high school (like UT does) than not having competitive scores, classes, etc. I find it extremely hard to believe that not one of these review admit kids will be offered admission at A&M.

@NotanAggie that’s kind of what I was thinking, which is why I asked as far as the Liberal Arts college goes. Trying now not to get too defeated as my uncle (who we hadn’t been in contact with for some time, otherwise I would’ve thought to pick his brain sooner) was a former professor at A&M many moons ago. He now teaching in New Mexico but still has friends that work at A&M. One is a professor who used to work under him, plus people in administrative positions etc. at any rate, I shared with him how long this process has been, and he offered to reach out to a few of his friends there to see if this was truly the end of the road as far as full admits go. He was told absolutely not, and apparently one of the comments he received was regarding these types of forums being a bit of a nightmare for them as they (according to a good source of his) are “riddled with misinformation and assumptions” which result in their phones ringing off the hook with callers saying they’d read this and that online. However, I did take that with a grain of salt for two reasons. First being that I’m sure they must give generic answers to try and quell the volume of calls of folks in a tizzy, second being that, I truly have only heard of a few full admits since it was said that the “wave” was likely done. I hope he’s correct, whatever patterns there have been, historically, it definitely seems have taken a different direction this year. I really do appreciate all of the great info and experiences others have had though.

@evanpd13 I wouldn’t give up hope yet. My daughter has 60 hours. She is completing her AS while in high school. She was accepted for Blinn yesterday. She is doing math. She will still need approx 5 or 6 classes that Blinn will offer for her. It will actually work out well for her. I agree with the others about keeping other options but keep your chin up!

One of my besties is an advisor in Psyc. She said they don’t ever see student information before the admissions dept. places them in psyc. Now does admissions look at let’s say what majors are filling up and what does little johnny want and decide if they need to beef up that major
it’s possible. They would deny it, but it’s possible. I have known several students who first and second choice majors were full. They were placed in general studies for their first semester except for one who had a 3rd major selected already in mind when asked. None of these were auto or academic admits.

Take that for what it’s worth because I don’t really think we will ever know. The proof is in the pudding though. We’ll see how many full admits and TEAM come through over the next week or two before PSA rolls out.

I have a feeling this time the full admit seats have not been fully released yet unless tamu has released facts - nowhere on this forum I have seen. Without being proven otherwise please do not loose hope. Stay strong and have a backup. Next wave is forthcoming it seems.
