TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@52AG82 I do not think it is a problem with my account, I think it’s a problem with the website itself because even when I was not logged in, it still didn’t let me access it.

@learner234 may be a volume issue, as it seems there was a wave of Blinn TEAM offers yesterday. Keep trying! Have a credit card handy to pay deposit and give your parent a heads up for the needed electronic signature.

FYI Transfer students were also admitted yesterday (quite a bit), thus adding to traffic on the site possibly.

Have been waiting as Review still… So what are the reasons A&M could deny admission even for TEAM or other pathways for Instate student.
Heard or read that the only reason A&M would deny admission if the application is incomplete or not was not submitted on time.

@avvi I don’t follow your question. TAMU gives out PSA to students who they feel need a year to go and get some college under their belt before tackling TAMU. If they do this successfully at a satellite campus, then they transition to TAMU. As for denial, they really only deny those that have incomplete applications like you said or don’t meet the requirements. As for getting into TAMU and TEAM and or gateway, it’s very competitive. High scores and GPA aren’t enough any more.

@avvi Texas A&M is a very competitive university. Many will not get admitted because #1 there isn’t room to accept every student who applies. In fact, the incoming freshman class will be smaller this year, than the last several years.

2 if you don’t have the scores/rank/classes taken that TAMU requires, they certainly don’t have to accept you.

3 This year it is reported over 46k students have applied-the most ever. And many of those were auto admits, which doesn’t leave a lot of room for students who didn’t have the scores to get in automatically.

@AggieMomhelp Sorry for not being clear. my question is if in state student meets all requirements can TAMU deny any form of admission (TEAM, PSA, other pathways). Being in 2nd Qt , ACT - 26 and 92(out of 100) GPA not sure if will be offered any kind of admission at this point. Applied for Science college.

@avvi I hope you have a plan b in place. if not, get that started asap. you should have at least one back up school ready to go in case TAMU doesn’t work out. many are still in review and it’s been reported that admissions are in the final stages. good luck!

@avvi -There should be over 10,000 PSA offers. Much like CAP at UT- it’s not a rejection, but particularly for some majors or if you already have duel credit/possible AP credit you want to use, it’s not a great option.

For my daughter in particular - the major she wants there is a sequence of classes that starts her freshman year. You can not start the classes until you are in that major. Also it’s my understanding you can’t double up on those classes. So any time spent in PSA is delaying her graduation. Plus we would probably end up not using all of her AP credits - so it would end up costing thousands more in the long run.

It’s a lot to think about.

Thank you all for your feedback.

Have you looked at the PSA requirements @avvi ? Just in case that is what your offer is?

I don’t see where you listed your major - but this is a sample of the requirements from the school of science.

You can find your particular path here http://admissions.tamu.edu/psa

At this point I would encourage anyone to really analyze PSA and decide if that is an option for you. Realistically can you maintain a 3.0 and Bs in specific classes if required? Would you be happy remaining at the system school for your degree if you fall short on the PSA requirements? Is there another school out there with a similar program that you could start at - attempting to fulfill the transfer requirements. Would you prefer a degree from the non TAMU system school VS the school for your PSA?

There is no right or wrong answers. You just need to figure out what is best for you.

@NotanAggie your thoughts are what I have been trying to express along with @avvi . You are correct we do not really know anything until it shows up in our AIS everything else is predictions.

We can analyze their methods to death. I am done doing that. My son is 127/931 (now he’s 122/976), 29 ACT (missed 30 by .25 of a point), has the ECs, works part-time job, and has 18 hours of DC plus 3 AP courses. He has a 3.5 in his DC courses (4 of those classes were online which he says was a big mistake which resulted in the 3 Bs that he made - pretty much figured out that online was not his forte - he needs hands on). And I am sure that the rest in review can argue their cases as well - just sucks because the argument isn’t reflected well on paper, is it? So moving on - population is increasing+students being pressured in more competitive environments, this leads to where we are at now. I have twiddled my thumbs since the beginning of September and am soooo ready to be done with this process. BTW - not dissing TAMU - I realize the pressure they are under - they did and have always said mid to end of March for ALL review decisions. I think that with seeing some releases here and there, it really gets our panties in a wad and we want ours too. It also doesn’t help to see all the posts of those already moving forward with housing, roommate selections, etc. BTW again - not dissing ya’ll either - very happy for ya’ll - we just wanna be able to do same!! :slight_smile:

I think what the kids need to realize now is that TAMU is not the end all, be all. There are plenty more opportunities out there, and it’s not where you start, but how you finish it. Heck yes, he wants to go to TAMU but he isn’t crying about it (although he is confused - just as I am LOL). I hope we all get our decisions soon so that we can move on with planning (like everyone else :slight_smile: ).

@JaceyK PREACH! :slight_smile:

@libbyshims are you located in Texas? My daughter too has been accepted to ASU.

@JaceyK I’m with you but we have waited this long so I believe whatever decision it will be here shortly. My son wants to go to TAMU but it is beyond our control and can only look to the future. I have spoken to my son that we may need to look at other option if TAMU doesn’t work out. We are awaiting Baylor and have applied to Tech. Looks like TT freshman apps for the fall is still open. I’m still holding out hope :slight_smile:

@libbyshims
My daughter hasn’t been accepted and I have no kids at TAMU, but if we had your situation going on with my daughter and y’all had a really good feeling at ASU and it’s his first choice major,Especially hearing how hard it is to transfer in, I would very much encourage my daughter to go that route.
That’s just my two cents that probably means nothing but I know you wanted opinions.

@IT22379 We are hoping to have a decision soon too so we can move on if needed. My daughter is also accepted at TTU and deferred until April for Baylor. Although she frankly didn’t put much into her Baylor application so maybe not likely. She wants to road trip to Lubbock next weekend for a tour and hang out with friends. I think she will likely end up there unless a miracle happens with TAMU or she just decides to suck it up and go to Blinn for a year. Either way…it will be ok :slight_smile:

@AggieDreamin We know people already accepted to Tech and did the tour and they like the campus a lot. Let me know if you tour Lubbock would like to know your thoughts.

My son received a Blinn team offer on Friday. He applied as a business major with economics as his second choice.
He completed his application in November.
Below are a few of his stats:
Rank: 1Q (103/680)
ACT: 29
GPA: 3.78 (unweighted)

He declined the offer. While disappointed, I understand why he’s decided to go elsewhere. The 3.8 GPA requirement for pathway to business coupled with the amount of DC/AP hours that he’ll lose made it unattractive.
