TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@nervoustamumommy
The way I have heard the AO on TexAgs state it is that review applicants can be reviewed many times for an admisison decisions, which leads me to believe that all review applicants have already been gone over at least once, so there is no stellar review applicant at the bottom of the stack that wasn’t looked at until last Friday or won’t be until Monday.
The way I gather, after following this process the best we are able, over the last 3 cycles, is that the review applicants are re-evaluated for each admissions decision type.

I don’t know A&M’s exact method of application review but UT put out a video on their admissions procedure and it is likely that A&M is similar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aw5odRUVLi0&t=44s

Could anyone let me know where to apply for housing , navigating the howdy portal for the first time is really confusing.

My son and I went to College Station to meet with an admissions counselor on 2/21 after he received his Blinn team offer to better understand his transferable AP/DC hours. She indicated that all Blinn offers had been extended and that it was now a first-come, first-served basis for those that received that message. If you received the “Please consider me for Blinn Team” offer, you need to hit the button as she said it will be full this week. This sounds different than when my older son applied in 2017.

Thanks I don’t have access to DD portal - so she is not here to ask but just told me she is checking and still shows in review…has anyone heard a drop dead date for all decisions to be made/admissions offered…I was at an event last night with mom’s from several other area schools and we all are in the same boat - all waiting to hear from A&M but have heard from every other school. We have no issue waiting a month if we end up with an Aggie offer but if not that will be a tough one…just wanting to get some final decisions. Also, how long does the appeals process take if there is some very important pertinent info that was not available at time of submission that might help? Do kids who have applied to A&M and are just waiting to hear still need to fill out another application for other A&M locations - i.e. Galveston, Tarleton or will they allow the same application to transfer?

If they have extended all offers, then how come they don’t just hit button to send PSA to the remaining review applicants? Why drag it out?

@rynetexas0301 My daughter, who applied to TAMU geosciences, has a 1340 SAT and 3.7 gpa at a non-ranking school. TAMU assigned Q2. Lots of AP science and math. Various ECs, volunteering, solid recs, great essay. Good luck to you! Hope you hear very soon

@JaceyK yeah, that’s what I’m thinking. One would think it would also make it easier on them as well. Especially if, as @Thelma2 mentioned above, they review the same applications multiple times. You’d think that would be even more of a reason to “hit the button” (if this magic button even exists ?). If there are no spots in TEAM or Full, there’s simply no spots, so what’s really left to review? Obviously with them looking over the review apps more than once, they surely know already which apps are the incomplete ones that they send denials for, so you’d think the rest left would just automatically get psa offers, because again, nothing is left. With today’s technology I’d think this “button” does exist in some way, because it’s not uncommon for huge quantities of anything to be sent out, not just for colleges. I already pretty much know this likely isn’t in the cards for my daughter, we are doing straight Blinn if not, we already have an apartment, so we are fortunate that although she wants it SO bad, she already has the rest lined up as far as living, which I know is one of the most stressful parts of this process. Of course I’d love to hear of someone who gets Team or full right now (or soon) as that might add a sprinkle of hope back in this, but not holding my breath. I will say this, every single student at our high school, where I teach part time, the six who received some sort of offer, none of them happened in the pattern the veterans here have seen in past cycles, for the most part, so there is that…

@JaceyK YES, I agree! We have plan B and will work on Plan C this week. It would be nice to know. Dorms/Apartments to lease and orientations to sign up for. I hope it is not true that all Blinn Teams have been sent out.

@drm309 what were your sons stats for geoscience??

It seems so strange that everyone’s info is all over the map in regards to when decisions will be made as admissions seems to be telling something different to everyone that asks…arrrrghhhh - I sent an email re: this issue and can’t wait to see what admissions says. Keep on Hanging On - I guess is the motto we should apply.

@AggieGurl yes, if not going through psa you apply through apply Texas. Also, I think Galveston deadline is coming up (this campus is not psa).

I do think for the most part the admissions have followed prior cycle patterns. One big difference was reviews for mays finding out earlier than usual. But patterns so far have been on point. The difference tho is the level of competition and stellar applicants getting Team when in prior years they would have been an easy admit. That part has me scratching my head.

Side note. A friends daughter got psa last year. Said no thank you. Went straight Blinn. Got a 4.0 first semester with 12 credits. Came out of Hs with 12 dual credits. Her college gpa for admission was just over a 3.7. She just applied in January and found out this week she was accepted for summer. She was so frustrated last year but says it worked out so well and it was no big deal. She loved college life in cstat as a Blinn student! Said no one ever made a deal about it. My point…great options are out there regardless of this admission decision.

@rynetexas0301 My son had a 1340 SAT (can’t recall breakdown), GPA ~4.0. Like a lot of folks he goes to a top school in Illinois that doesn’t rank. TAMU assigned him to Qtr2. Eagle Scout, Captain of swim and water polo teams, lots of APs. He went to TAMU GeoEx camp in 2017, and from that point on wanted to be an Aggie.

Does anyone know that how long does it take to receive an official acceptance letter from TAMU at Galveston by mail?

@Wings16 can’t speak to TAMU Galveston but my son received Blinn TEAM offer on Feb14 and received his letter in the mail today. We are out of state so maybe an extra day or so.

@Wings16 In November, my son received his welcome packet/banner from TAMUGalveston about 2 weeks after AIS notification of acceptance. There will be a formal letter of acceptance in the “My Communications/My Letters” tab (within AIS) that can be printed while you’re waiting on that banner

I really don’t understand what could possibly be the logic behind waiting this long to roll out all remaining PSAs and denials.

It seems kind of cruel, honestly.

When a few of you are referencing the ‘historical patterns’, are y’all basing your statistics off of prior years posts on College Confidential, or outside sources beyond what is seen, and posted on these forums? The reason I ask is, while you may see patterns and gather the trends from the past, and obviously this year, is there a possibility that there is quite a bit more going on, pattern wise that you aren’t aware of outside of these forums? Surely there are thousands of people who apply to this school that do not post here. There are at least six kids I know of in my area this year that have received acceptances in some form that don’t necessarily have much in common as far as what we keep seeing here, as in, the order of the releases, stats that many here say are a reach for admission, etc… example: the “waves”. I was pretty much shot down and an assumption was made that a student I know might be fibbing when she received a a TEAM offer much earlier than apparently most students do. Now, obviously we DO see trends here such as the last couple of waves being mostly TEAM, but does that make us certain that many may not have received things in this order outside of this group? I’d posted here when a son of a very close family friend received full admit with a 2q rank, 1170 SAT with an ACT in the low 20s. Again, basically told that is pretty much impossible. But it did happen. While maybe not as common, does that mean it’s impossible? Obviously not. We had two of my students receive TEAM offers last week. One with impressive EC’s and Community Service, but very average scores and rank. Scores that according to what I’ve read here would normally be a psa offer at best. The other, again, 2q but decent scores. What in getting at is, we can look at all of the data available and memorize everything TAMU related til the point we become ‘experts’, but that doesn’t mean we will ever know everything. I appreciate the time some of y’all have clearly spent researching and taking notes over the years, and for whatever reason have stuck around to continue to study and take notes, and give advice, but for every ten examples of previous years ‘patterns’ there may be ten people outside of this forum who’ve had completely different experiences. The information offered during this anxious time is extremely appreciated, as it gives us a glimpse of what may be going on during this process, but the key word is may. When my uncle had reached out to some of his friends and former coworkers at A&M, one of them who works somewhere in admissions actually named college confidential, and particularly the forums related to A&M as a huge pain in their rears as a constant source of misinformation and said it causes much unnecessary panic, resulting in of course, frantic phone calls and emails to admissions with “I saw it on CC”. I can see how that would be frustrating for them there. Let’s all keep in mind that we should take some of what we read with a grain of salt, as things change and what may have been true yesterday, doesn’t necessarily make it accurate today. One thing everyone does know that is fact… there are definitely upwards of 52,000 applications, with an astounding number of high achieving, well deserving applicants. The rest I personally feel may be causing additional, unnecessary stress during a time that’s already stressful enough. I do appreciate all of the time and efforts put in here. At the end of the day, whatever will be, will be. If we are going to get the wind knocked out of our sales, maybe at this juncture it’s best to let our decisions do the talking? Off my soapbox. I wish everyone here the best of luck! Don’t give up hope, many of you will be successful no matter where you go, so keep your chins up! :v:?

@nervoustamumommy I am simply a 1st Time Parent. Sure, there are thousands (perhaps tens of thousands) who aren’t commenting on CC.
My daughter attends a very large, competitive suburban high school. The stats posted here mirror exactly what’s happening with the kids in our area. Clearly info coming out of TAMU is conflicting also-from Admissions, tour guides, local Aggie reps, even what is being told to school counselors. I agree to take everything with a grain of salt, but also be somewhat realistic. March 1 is days away.
I sure wouldn’t want to work in the Admissions office this year…they truly have a high pressure, thankless job.
Here’s hoping everyone is wrong, and the full, TEAM and Gateway admissions go out in full force this week!

@nervoustamumommy I feel your frustration girl. Totallly get it and of course we are all championing the hopes that offers are still out there. I’ll speak for myself and I’m sure Thelma and others might chime in. I do this thread because kids and moms/dads come on here seeking help with many things. I don’t chance someone unless asked and it’s obviously an opinion anyway and for those that take it as the final say, that’s just silly.

I do have experience and connections and get some info that most wouldn’t get. I divulge when I can and sit back when I can’t. All the admissions questions are best guess. But the other questions we get on housing, scholarships, transfer help, pros cons of academies etc are based on experience and expertise. I do it because i love helping people.

And this forum CC is for evey college. It’s not like we thought oh let’s go mess with those who are freaking out. Lol and if this forum causes anyone panic, don’t get on it. Don’t ask to be chances. Don’t ask a question if you don’t want an answer.

I hope the best for every student on here. And have only hoped to help, nothing less.

Happy Sunday, thanks and Gig ‘em.

This board has been a lifesaver for us. We had 0 knowledge of TAMU coming in. Through this board we learned the lingo and more importantly we learned what questions to ask the school. I my few posts I’ve recommended calling the school with the really important questions and not rely only on info on posts. After all, this school will be getting ~$150k or so of our hard earned money, so they WILL answer our questions! And they’ve been great. Come March 1 all decisions will be in hand and all can move forward to TAMU or another great school. I’m sad that there will be some tears shed this week, but come August this process will be forgotten, all the kids will be excitedly going off to school, and we will all be in tears driving/flying back home. Best of luck to all, and Gig 'em.
