TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@nervoustamumommy - when they say historical trends they are talking about a combination of CC and official data. I’m new to this game - @Thelma2 and @AggieMomhelp are the experts. My daughter is a review admit waiting for a decision. And I’m not a statistician - but I have had to create analytical reports to show trends and predict consumer needs.

With the help of @Thelma2 and all of the data she collected off the 2022 thread I compared the hard data from dars and the admission’s releases to what was collected last year on CC.

Here is my thoughts:
Okay - a very quick look at the 2022 sample
Non-scientific CC sample
41 Full
19 TEAM
10 Gateway
4 McAllen
77 - PSA
Total of 151

41 Full - 27%
33 - Alternative 21%
77 - PSA - 51%

48% - Some sort of admission or pathway
51% - PSA

Data released by TAMU regarding review candidates shows
40.7% - Some sort of admission of pathway
59.2% - PSA

So while off - for as small of a sample, which probably has a HUGE margin of error - I think it trends pretty close to the actual numbers. From looking at the CC reporting - It appears Gateway is over represented or TEAM is under represented. In 2022 we know that the Gateway offers are well under 1000 and TEAM is over 4000. But in the sample it 10 and 19. I also believe that it stands to reason that the lower scoring/ranking people are less likely to post their stats for chancing when they see all the scores/rank higher than theirs.

And this is a further analysis of the ENROLLMENT numbers. This is an attempt to see the percentage and numbers of review candidates actually enrolled.

Based on these numbers for the 10,097 first time/full time freshmen (this is University released data):
6052 were top 10%
2827 were top 25%
1010 were 25%-50%
202 were 50%-75%
None below 75%

So if you take 1212 from the 25% and below and add my approximately 630 review admits from the top 25% (Based on the projected yield of academic admits/enrollment. Basically there is a consistent percentage of people offered admission who do not enroll. So the common data set of top 25% includes both academic and review admits. Based on the yield percentages and known academic admits- I am ASSUMING around 630 students enrolled were in the top 25% but not academic admits) - you get 1842.

Or in other words - here is a look at the quarter that review candidates came out of:
34% from the top 25
55% from the second quarter
10% from the third quarter.

Should add that the enrollment ###s above are from 2017-2018 - I worked them out before the 2018-2019 common data set was available online.

2017
Top 10 - 60%
Top 25 - 88% (28% not in top 10%)
Second quarter - 10%
Third quarter - 2%

2018
Top 10 - 63%
Top 25 - 92% (29% not in the top 10%)
Second quarter - 7%
Third quarter - 1%

So last year’s numbers were more grim for folks not in the top 25%. 8% VS 12%.

And while admissions decisions and the process are a mystery - by law schools are required to report the relative importance of academic and nonacademic factors in first time, first year freshman admissions decisions.

For TAMU
Very Important - rigor of secondary school record, class rank, academic GPA, standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, talent/ability
Important - Application essay, first generation, geographical residence, state residency, volunteer, work experience
Considered - recommendations, character/personal qualities, level of interest
Not considered - Interview, religion, racial/ethnic status

It is hard for me to believe that all TEAM offers have been extended. I have seen so many people on this forum with amazing stats that still haven’t heard, who I can’t imagine not getting TEAM or full. I’m hoping this week will be a big week for offers!

Right there with you @stillhopeful581

Has anyone received “official TAMU” notice that all full and Blinn Team offers” have been extended? Or is this just more speculation?

No one speculated that. I think she was just saying that she can’t imagine it would be done.

So is the general consensus that more could come this week? Also, I saw a post that made it seem like all offers would be made by March 1 but that was earlier then what we were told by A&M during our tour - has anyone seen/heard concrete info re:Mar 1? Thanks

One thing that’s concrete is that there is nothing concrete! Can I get an amen?

@AggieGurl several have posted that AGGIEBOUND on Twitter has said all freshman decisions handed out by March 1. If you’re on Twitter, you might ask. Many have gotten conflicting info from A&M campus tours-about various things-so I wouldn’t bank on what tour guides said.

@AggieGurl @52AG82 On Feb.4, AGGIEBOUND tweeted “Fall 2019 freshman applicants can expect to have decision before March 1.” Amen @AggieMomhelp

So are we thinking there are more full and TEAM admits to be given out? Or are there really only PSA abs denials to hand out more than likely.

@rynetexas0301 , I don’t think anyone knows for sure (except TAMU Admissions office).
But perhaps @Thelma2 or @AggieMomhelp can better answer.

AMEN!!
I, for one, have not only found valuable info here, it’s been a great way to pass the time while waiting on a decision. We must use some logic and common sense when reading through posts…and reading from the BEGINNING keeps it all in perspective and helps it to make more sense
I so appreciate everyone’s input…the facts, the links, the guesses, the chancing, the hopes, the details…all have helped me to come to MY OWN conclusion of what to expect for my kid and better know what to pursue, what to study further and how to advise my kiddo  Looking forward to some soon-to-come closure so I can move on to the next phase to obsess over ? Gig’em y’all!!
?? ???
And by the way, if you haven’t already, find your local Aggies Moms Club. I just finished Aggie Moms Camp this weekend in CStat which was beyond incredible!!!

???

Just talked to a friend whose daughter was denied. I made her clarify and she said she was actually denied not just full admission. I don’t know stats but I do know that she is a smart kid that excels.

@mrsqster how exactly was she denied? Howdy portal, letter in the mail? What was the wording? Not offfered any pathways? ?

@nervoustamumommy

@AggieMomhelp @MomHopesNxtGenAg @AggieMomAgain @trinley @pbleigh @chercheur @GManmom123 and I am sorry If I forgot someone, all have students at A&M and all of us have been where you are going through this process. There were so many helpful people on the forum when I joined in October 2015. I had no intentions of staying when I first joined and I had so much guidance though NSC and move in that before I knew it, we were in another admissions cycle, and it just grew from there. These people give tirelessly of themselves and spend many hours on the forums to help others navigate this process from every single angle.

It is my sincerest with that you are not suggesting or inferring that any of the above folks I tagged or myself, are giving out misinformation on this forum. If this not be the case, then you have case aspersions on us all that need to be backed up that the information we have shared is indeed incorrect.

I am not an expert. I do not know it all nor have I ever claimed or aspired to. In fact, I have posted many, many times my qualifications, which are few, and readily admit my limitations but darn it if I won’t try to find someone the answer or put them in touch with someone who can. I am a parent with a child at A&M. But I have traveled the road you are on currently and I have walked along with hundreds in their journey’s in subsequent cycles It is my way of giving back to those coming after me, as others did FOR me. I have three in college at three different universities and A&M is by far the most competitive and complex in everything.

I try to be very deliberate with my words. When I post a link to information for people, I am not googling it and throwing it out there and saying "here’. I have actually read all of these sites, many, many times, when looking up an answer for someone so that I can give them the most accurate answer I can. Many times, I will actually copy and paste the exact text from the websites to paste here and provide the link and where to find it on the link. I try to be so meticulous in what my words and be very explicit so that nothing more can be read into or more taken from them except exactly what they mean but that has not stopped them from being so.

Not only do I help on the A&M forum. I read a lot on the rest of CC, where there are admissions officers who post on topics and people with way more experience than I, and I learn from them. I also belong to 2 closed an Aggie parent groups, one with over 10K members and the major specific group over 1K, where no one is anonymous. Hundreds of those members have other kids going through the admissions cycle in any given cycle. Others here watch the reddit forums where current students participate a lot with applicants, TexAgs has an official Admissions Officer that will answer questions and posts information. Some of us watch them all. yes, I do make notes and keep notes so that I have fast, easy access to links and if I need to refresh myself with an answer, I have it at my fingertips.

Something else you should know is that of every single one of us on here.trying to help during admission cycles have never met one another. We are strangers to each other, helping strangers and none of them would bat an eye to halt misinformation as soon as it were spotted, so that it did not take on a life of its own.

As to who is admitted though holistic review, that can never be predicted. While rank and test scores play a big roll, there are always other things at play. While A&M is known to be stingy with merit aid to all but the highest achieving kids, did you know that A&M has large programs for outreach to under-served areas of Texas, to first generation college applicants, and economic hardships applicants? These applicants will be the ones you see getting full offers of admissions that people bemoan because their students scores were SO much better and their high school SO much more competitive.

The Century Scholars Program and Scholarship is a partnership between Texas A&M University and 110 under-represented Texas high schools to enroll and retain top students from each school. Recipients must be a graduate of a Century Scholar school. Not only is it a scholarship, it is an ongoing program during their tenure at A&M.

900 Century Scholars are awarded each year.

Did you know The Academic Achievement Scholarships target academic achievement that was achievement under difficult circumstances?

Did you know The Foundation of Excellence Award is open to entering freshmen, currently-enrolled students at TAMU-College Station, and transfer students from under-represented groups, including minorities and students from economically or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds with demonstrated financial need.

Did you know that A&M ranks #6 in the nation for the number of enrolled National Merit Scholars?

I would supply the links to all of this information but they are in my notes, so I’ll leave it to you to spend your time researching it.

It was in her portal but I am not sure of the wording felt weird pressing for too much info

I would gladly accept a denial for this. My son has several other very good options. The kids referenced above don’t. You’ve been a wealth of information. Thank you.
