@howdyyeeyee someone posted last night, on this thread, their son had 3.5 gpa, 1350 SAT…and got PSA. I don’t know if being international has any bearing on your application, but everyone needs a Plan B, C…
My son received PSA last year with a 3.8 weighted/3.4 unweighted and a 1340 SAT. 200 hours community service, 4 years of extracurriculars. He didn’t apply until the last day though (December 31) it was extended because of the hurricane. They may have thought it didn’t indicate interest. He went to Texas Tech instead. We have a very competitive high school and only being top 27% didn’t help. He’s happy and that’s what matters. I’ve been following the forum for a friend this year. Her son is top 15% with an 1150 SAT applied in September but has not heard anything.
Our son did Gateway last year. He attends TAMUG with the Marine Transportation program. I think the general info for the Gateway program is similar for both campuses. It was a great experience for him. He did get the choice of several classes and chose 2 credit classes. The other 2 are “study info” classes to help introduce students to new study habits, etc (which were great for him). It definitely cost a hefty chunk because we had to pay for the dorm and meal plan along with the tuition. We had to move him out of the dorm when summer classes ended then back in when it was time to move in for the fall. He also met some other students in the same program so it worked out very well. If your student is selected for Gateway I’d say jump on it. We are very happy he had the opportunity to do this.
Our daughter was accepted last week to TEAM. She’s very excited, too.
I applied to TAMUcstat mid October and haven’t heard back yet. My class rank is top 20% I’m number 83 out of 420 students, but I am also out of stat. My friend who applied as well for offered PSA this weekend and was ranked in top 35% of our class. This late in the decision process is it not looking good for me?
It was disappointing for my son to get PSA. However, I just read in his letter in AIS that College of Engineering now participates in PSA. It may be something to think about. We have until May 1 to decide.
Son plans to UTD and UT Arlington.
Just received my decision today. Submitted on the last day, with MEEN as my first choice. 33 ACT, 3.0 GPA (which is middle of the pack for my school, which doesnt rank) and the usual trimmings with volunteer and work experience. Got PSA, but will be appealing because of personal circumstances. It’s not the end of the world for me, but BlinnTEAM/CC would be nice (I’m dead-set on the corps), which is why I’m appealing. Wish me luck!
ahhh!!! I hate being so inpatient. waiting to hear a yes or no is the worst, especially when all the good housing are being taken
@luvTX45 I would strongly consider engineering academy in Brenham over PSA. Lower GPA requirements and you are co enrolled. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/texas-m-university/2062343-engineering-academies.html#latest
@HopefulCautious I’m sorry, and I know you’re disappointed, but just an FYI… You could do a year of PSA, and still be in the Corps in your sophomore year at TAMU.
@kaydeeloo I fully realise that, i’d just prefer to have my freshman year in the corps. If not, then that’ll be fine. I wont go too deep into the specifics of what I’ll be saying in my appeal, but it falls firmly into the categories that they specify, and it should be pretty convincing. But, if it doesnt work out (which seems to be more than likely, after reading up on it) it won’t be a soul-crushing loss.
@stillhopeful581 Everything you ever wanted to know about Gateway

I have a daughter that is currently a junior at A&M. I remember the stress of waiting and despite an excellent resume, she was offered PSA. She went through the heartbreak of having good friends that didn’t even plan to attend A&M get accepted or Blinn team, as well as students from her school that were much less qualified receive offers. She did not accept the PSA offer, but immediatey applied to TAMU Galveston and was accepted. This was the route she chose for her freshman year and it was the best thing for her. It had about 2500 students, smaller classes & small campus. It was the perfect transition to College Station and looking back she wouldn’t change a thing.
Galveston is not a system school but an actual A&M campus. She was an Aggie. She had the same Howdy portal, had a sports pass and would travel with a group of friends to the football games, and all of her grades counted toward her current GPA. After completing her freshman year and all the prerequisites and requirements required for her specific major, she just applied for a change of major to psychology and switched to College Station. She met her best friends and they all currently live together and even just traveled back to Galveston this last weekend to celebrate Mardi Gras. They call themselves the Galvy gang:)
My point is that what was devastating at the time turned out to be the biggest blessing. Stay positive! There are other routes that will get you to the main campus if you work hard and want to be in Cstat. I know it is frustrating though:(
I now have daughter #2 in the same situation as many of y’all - applied in August and still in review. Ugh!! But she is absolutely determined to be an Aggie one way or another!
@Thelma2 @AggieMomhelp My Howdy says my major is BAC-TEAM-EB, but my AIS says Engineering Academy at Blinn-Bryan. So am I in team or the engineering academy?
Thanks for the info, will look into this option
anyone hear a decision today??
SO, I have been watching this site since October. My son was admitted a while back, but we have been hoping and hoping for some good news for some friends of ours . . . . so much WAITING!
This blog is unbelievable. This is such a difficult process, with so many teens (and their parents) waiting and waiting and . . . . waiting! But there is some sanity (I think!) in scrolling through this dialog - a lifesaver, for sure!
@Thelma2 and @AggieMomhelp you two have been incredible. There are a few others who have joined in to give you a hand here and there, but I feel like you two are friends, teachers, and therapists all bundled into one! And so PATIENT!!
Though my son had an answer way back in October, I have read and followed every single day. It’s crazy - I feel like I almost know a handful of people out there - I’m rooting for people I don’t even know!!! I check on a few of you every single day.
@Thelma2, @AggieMomhelp - All I can say to you is THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. And to everyone else, too.
Following in your footsteps makes me even more proud to be an Aggie Mom.
I’ve been thinking about doing it for some time, but waiting on the decision is eating at me, so I finally crunched the historical TAMU admissions numbers and determined that for someone like my daughter – who isn’t an auto admit – the chance of a non-PSA offer hovers around 21%. (Though with the increased # of applications and targeted decrease in enrollment, the 2019 numbers will be different.) In the spreadsheet we created to keep track of her college applications, I now realize we should have classified TAMU as a “reach” school. (Although the schools she applied to that we did classify as “reach”, allow an SAT “superscore”, which TAMU does not.) We have very attractive B, C, and D plans already in place, so my daughter will be okay. For those of y’all still waiting, hang in there! Lots of us are in the same boat.
@firsttimeCSmom congrats to your son! That’s amazing. Hoping his friends hear the same news! Or worst case, meet up with him in Aggieland in a year! So many paths! What is your sons major?
If you need any referrals for your kiddo while in school (doctors, dentists etc) let me know. And also best places to eat and miss the crowds while y’all visit!
Welcome to the Aggie family!!
@learner234 that does sound confusing. But yes, you are engineering academy. Sounds like they may be using that term team vs TEAB. It wouldn’t hurt to follow up with admissions or if someone else on this forum has this can confirm that it’s the academy?!
TY! Pretty sure I will be reaching out sooner or later. You are so generous with your time. Thank you, truly, for helping me (and all of us) stay as calm as possible throughout this process! Gig’em!!!
Engineering.
