@NavyWife93 congrats that’s Gateway!!!
@NavyWife93 I’d say this is a strong indication of a Gateway offer - BIG Congrats!!
Gateway is the 5 week summer prog which from others on this forum sounds a great & positive start to College life
@WaitingAgg I haven’t heard either but my friend got a full admit in engineering with:
ACT: 24
CR: 50%
EC: NHS
But I still haven’t heard and I want to go into geoscience with:
When did I apply: 9/1
Review admit
Haven’t heard back
ACT: 25
CR: 37%
GPA: 3.8
So idk
@rynetexas0301 Did your friend receive this full admit to engineering today or have they had this offer for a wee while now?
@howdyyeeyee
If you want to pursue political science and are determined to be an Aggie, then you have some options.
One option is to attend Blinn Jr College in Bryan and sign up for the PTA program (Program for Transfer Admissions). It has particulars that you will need to know and follow. http://admissions.tamu.edu/PTA
You will follow a specific course sheet for admissions to A&M. You can earn a BA or BS in PoliSci or any offered major, but you have to select one and stick with it.
Read through the link above. You can even view the participation form you must sign.
~~~Earn a grade of a "B" or better in all bold, italicized coursework specified in the degree plan.
~~~Participants may only sign up for PTA ONE time under one major.
~~~The most recent consecutive 30 transferable hours must be done IN RESIDENCE at any Texas community college or combination of Texas community colleges. - meaning no online classes-
~~~Bold, italicized coursework on the Major Coursework Check Sheet may only be attempted once (excluding grades of W and WP).
~~~If a participant earns a grade of “C”or lower in the bold, italicized coursework (including dual credit), the participant will not be admitted via PTA but is still eligible for traditional transfer admission.
Another option would be to attend another Community College and commit to the PTA Program.
Another option would be to attend another university, follow the A&M transfer course sheet for that major and apply to transfer.
Another day, another “My App is Complete and in Review”
@Mommydoodle - wish there was a ‘thumbs down’ icon. We are the same.
@NavyWife93 what are her stats?
Applied 11/06
Decision n/a
Admit Review
Quarter 1Q
GPA 4.35 weighted
SAT 1140
ACT 24
EC Beta HS, NHS, 4 years of cheerleading (football, basketball & competition) , Captain for the Sparkle Cheerleaders her senior year, founding member of Children of the Armed Forces Club at her school, volunteers with the Special Olympics, volunteers with the food bank each month, works 5 days/week, volunteers with Veterans organizations and more I can’t remember.
We are a military family so she has traveled to and lived in other countries. She does have ADD and a 504 plan in high school. She also applied and interviewed to get into the Governor’s Health Science Academy at her high school (highly competitive program), so she attends a school we are not districted for and they are ranked with the general high school students. She will have 21 credits for DE classes upon hs graduation.
@rynetexas0301 those stats for your friend make no sense for full admit. Are you sure? I’m not saying the stats are bad, but engineering really looks hard at test scores. They are all about readiness and a 24 @ 50% rank says the opposite.
Could he have received an academy?
for some reason I keep waking up right after midnight to check AIS and again around 7:00 am. Still in review
@libbyshims I wish we could be giving the “thumbs up” Gig’em sign. Hopefully soon! Good luck to your kiddo!
@NavyWife93 congratulations to your daughter! her EC’s are honorable!
@Scotsfi he found out yesterday
@AggieMomhelp I can always double check!
@rynetexas0301 the friend who got Engineering with the scores you posted-surely that is a PSA or Academy offer?
24 ACT and class rank 50% No way that is full admit, especially for Engineering.
@rynetexas0301 I am with @AggieMomhelp on your friends stats. There is more to this story. Unless he has a perfect math score on the ACT and is a math whiz but English is a struggle.
If he doesn’t have a perfect math score and is not strong in math and calculus, which his score does not reflect, if this be the case, his success in the program doesn’t sound promising as a full admit. Calculus and the rigor at College Station will overwhelm him.
I believe this to be true, at least for some. I know when I graduated (don’t ask how long ago!!!) I was an auto admit to both A&M and UT because I was in the top 10% (even tho it wasn’t a state law yet). I did not study or even put forth effort when I went to take the SAT! I specifically remember telling my parents that I just had to go and sign my name! So I agree with @Aghopeful that the scores for the top 10% are skewed possibly.
My son is still in review. I’m kind of in shock, honestly. I have seen higher rankings and scores, no doubt, it’s just that I had no idea how competitive it had gotten. He’s our first going to college. He applied July 1!
Looks like he’s going to go to Tech. When we visited in the fall, we had an incredible visit. The staff really gave personal attention on the campus tour and the business school tour. He really felt wanted. Lubbock is much prettier than we thought and although the campus is large, it still has a small, college town feel. I just don’t like the distance and I’ll admit, I have a hang up with still thinking that Tech isn’t as “good” as A&M or UT.
Given how competitive it is to attend those 2 schools now though, I would like to argue that Tech has to be a stronger school now. It is getting very high ranking students!
My son doesn’t even look at his AIS anymore, it’s just me. He’s lost hope. I’m class of ‘95 and I’d love him to experience Aggieland, but we shall see…
@52AG82 I know that’s what I’m saying he’s a friend of my boyfriend and that’s what my boy told me. I was told my admissions that all full admits have already been given out but idk now
@agclassof95mom it is certainly different now, than it was when we were applying (and I am much older than you are). I don’t think anyone saw THIS level of competition coming this year?!
Tech is a hidden gem. They are doing great things out there, and I don’t ever hear of anyone who doesn’t love it once they get there. Lubbock is a cool town, and West Texas has the best sunsets you’ll ever see! Not to mention THE nicest people ever! Tech campus is much prettier than A&M, too…just have to watch out for wind storms!
Send your son where is he wanted, and move forward! He will blaze his own trails! Congrats to him for TTU acceptance!
