TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@trinley so one essay trumps over 100 points on SAT and a full 1.0 point higher on GPA? That doesn’t seem like a level playing field at all.

Now if my kid half-assed her essay & assumed that her starts would sail heron, I could see that. But she wrote a great essay. Had a couple teachers & mentors give her constructive criticism on it & reworked it.

@Mommydoodle I absolutely agree with you‼️

@Mommydoodle - what TAMU says they do holistically is have Rank (remember NOT GPA) and test scores are 50% - the other stuff is 50%. So someone with lower scores, but first generation college, star athlete, ROTC scholarship, child of a fallen police officer… the list goes on and on. We do not see what they get to see about these candidates. Just know that what we are seeing is only 50% of the equation.

ok just because your kids essay was great does not mean other were not better. Less and Less colleges rely on scores for admissions. They want to know who they are accepting so essays, EC, community service and etc in my opinion factor in more than stats when it is not an auto admit. If your stats are in the range for the school like many others then it comes down to who the person is.

@BlueBayouAZ THANK YOU

@Mommydoodle I agree with you too. I’m sorry-I wish I understood it better too. It’s very confusing. Your daughter sounds like an awesome student.

Congrats! May I ask what your stats are like and the major you applied for and when you applied? Thank you.

@Fullofhope23 ^

@cartershack Congrats on your admit. Just curious - would you mind sharing how you were not auto admit?

My son has been in a gifted and talented program at a huge Texas school district since elementary school. Takes classes I didn’t take until my Junior year of college. Scored 32 on the ACT (per prep scholars calculator about 1450-1480 sat equivalent). Hes also still waiting. He was 1 point shy of getting academic admin on the math section of the ACT and didn’t have time to retake before decisions are made. He has nice scholarship offers from other schools. He wants A&M for their Ag program and his sister being an Aggie is extra motivation. As much as this is hard on the students I really think its harder on us parents. Not knowing where our young adults will be in a few months is hard. As much as I hope all of our students get in I hope all of them have a thought out plan b.

I have been follow this thread since October. It has been a torture for these long waiting. And I feel very frustrated right now. My daughter rank 19%. GPA 4.4 and SAT 1430. And didn’t get anything. I though she at least can get TEAM. And now it seems only PSA left. I wonder if they even have a chance to look at her application.

@texas99 a 1430 wasn’t academic admit?

@texas99 Would your daughter not have been considered for academic admit with these stats/scores? …being top 25% and a 1430 SAT score

@JaceyK - you received an answer? I thought you were still in waiting with the rest of us. :frowning: Sorry, I responded before reading further. Wont let me delete post…had to edit.

I’m beginning to think that cartershack is yanking our chain.

She got good math score but reading/writing miss 20 points. So she is review.

@tisulli agree…way too many inconsistencies in cartershack posts/comments.

I’ve been lurking for a few weeks now, started out hopeful, and now trying to come to terms that she is not getting an offer. Her Dad and I are both Aggies, our son is freshman at A&M right now and we are just sick about this. She has her heart set on A&M. AIS shows she is still in review but Im sure its over and so Im working on Plan B C etc. Here are my daughters stats:

When did you apply: July 7, 2018
When did you get your UIN:?
When did you receive your admission decision: None yet
Are you an Auto-admit or Academic Admit or Review Admit: Review
Major/College of Choice: 1st Public Health 2nd BIMS
Class Rank: 65/369 18%
SAT (with Sub Scores) 1350 (690 math, 660 read)
ACT (with Sub Scores n/a

Drill team 4 years (officer 2 years), NCL, NHS, volunteering, etc.

Considering options to get in… either BLINN in the fall and applying for transfer to A&M for Spring 2020 -or- sitting out fall semester and daughter retaking SAT to try to get 1360 and applying for Spring 2020 with academic admit. Anyone have experience with either of these options? Is one better than the other?

who else is still in review?

Ok you all can’t even agree on what they use to determine holistic admits. One says rank & tests are 50% and another says this stuff doesn’t matter.

I think I should have stuck with my take everything on here with a grain of salt theory, as every poster on here seems to tell a different story on how they review them, what type of admits are still available, etc
