TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@BlueBayouAZ don’t forget to throw in the carton of ice cream. This is like a bad break up. But as such, this too shall pass!

@nervoustamumommy I am sure you are stunned. Just got off the phone with a friend, whose son who given Gateway today. He is not Top 10%, 1270 SAT (or possibly lower). He had a great essay-about blending cultures (he moved from overseas when in jr high). Happy for them, of course, but shocked when I hear stats like your student who got flat out denial.
Praying for your daughter ?

@luckyaggie has a high school Counselor been advising you? Or have you been looking into TAMU Biomedical Science Requirements? You’re a senior in high school with all those credits? I’m really confused.
There are definitely other amazing universities in our Great State, that I’m sure could find a place for you. But I’d seek guidance ASAP from an academic advisor, before taking anymore classes.

@luckyaggie I understand that your situation is complicated. I am sorry if your dream doesn’t seem to be working out. You obviously are a very bright and mature student and I am positive that you will be very successful. Please try to stay positive because I am certain that if this plan does not work out, your next plan will be an even better fit for you.

@Scotsfi
No. A denial now will not impact any future transfer application.

All a denial is is that they can’t fit you in right now, not that you suck and are terrible and they never want to see your mug on campus, ever. ?

@BlueBayouAZ I would add that from an academic standpoint not getting into TAMU has no bearing on her future potential. I’m seeing so many bright young students on this site with amazing grades and school records, they will succeed at any school, and the sky is the limit for future school choices. TAMU would have laughed at my high school transcript and SAT score. Yet, I attended a middle of the road state school and ended up graduating with a masters degree from Northwestern University. Just takes focus, hard work, and family support helps too! Best of luck to your daughter.

We’re trying to remain hopeful because I still cannot understand how a 3.0 GPA with a 1200 SAT score would get a decision of BLINN and a 4.01 GPA, 1330 SAT would not at least get BLINN. I suppose we will wait until we know for sure, but if this is the case I really do not understand how they decide who gets what.

This is my first experience with A&M. I didn’t grow up in Texas. My older daughter didn’t want a thing to do with either A&M or UT and went out of state.

(((((Hugs))))) @luckyaggie :x::o:

@luckyaggie Tarleton State has BIMS program - while it does not feed into TAMU for transfer, I thought it might interest you - it’s also not the same caliber as TAMU (#8 in the nation for biomedical science). I don’t know what else to tell you - we looked at alternatives within the state too and that is what we found. Does it have to be BIMS? What about biology or biochemistry (my daughter originally wanted BIMS but switched to double major in biochem and genetics)? Why are you specifically interested in only biomedical science? Just curious…

@Mommydoodle I’m with you…there doesn’t seem to be a consistent pattern. Keep us posted on your daughter!

@52AG82 I will. She has several classmates with GPAs/scores more consistent with hers that also have heard nothing. It’s all so confusing.

She’s pretty well rounded too - clubs, varsity sports, volunteering, etc.

Hello all! I hope all is going well, I just got gateway this morning and I am beyond grateful!

Ive wanted to be an Aggie for the longest, but ive paid for UH NSO already so I think that $160 I lost out on is oak, things happen

@Mommydoodle I know! My son is 12.5% rank (currently sitting at 122 out of 976) with ACT 29 (he was 0.25 away from 29.5 for a 30). Makes no sense - I hate that my son got rejected with these stats - but so did so many others. :frowning:

@JaceyK he’s already gotten a rejection? (I have a hard time keeping up on here at times). I guess I don’t understand why he would not receive at least Blinn Team over someone with lower stats. This boggles my mind

I changed my mind about this post
I still feel the same way but I don’t want to add to Lucky Aggie’s angst at the moment

@Mommydoodle No, nothing yet - but as more time passes, I think he will either get PSA or a denial. Boggles my mind too - only thing I can guess is that there were 1000s of others with same or similar stats and my son just got the shorter end of the stick? Still doesn’t explain those with lower stats (although their essays may have been amazing lol).

I would have taken a science route if offered, but my early college high school started when I started high school, so my class laid down the groundwork for years to come. I didn’t have a choice but to do a liberal arts plan.
But @2xAggieMom @Thelma2 Thank you for the support

@JaceyK I’m only especially interested in Biomedical Science because it will directly help me in applying to Vet School at A&M. By the time I would be finished with my degree, I would have had so many connections and experience in the animal field at A&M, because they offer so many opportunities!

@52AG82 I’m a high school senior with 60 credits (an Associates) in Interdisciplinary Studies. I’m in an early college high school, so I attend college on a college campus while doing high school classes as well.

@luckyaggie I’ve never heard of an early college high school! So impressive, but also sounds like you weren’t advised well…which is a shame.
I’d definitely look into Tarleton, as it’s an Ag school. They may be willing to accept your hours.

The reason some students get in with lower stats than others with higher stats during the review process is because the review process is just what TAMU says it is: holistic. The stat game is played for automatic admits. An essay may very well Set an applicant apart from someone with higher stats. I think it helps equal the playing field a little.

@luckyaggie My understanding of the application process to the tamu Vet school is that you do not need a degree to apply for entry but you do need a set of courses completed. At one point my son considered it and that was what we were told. So perhaps you can finish those requirements at a community college and then apply? The other big requirement for Vet School is animal experience. I know of a Vet Tech that tried several times to get into A&M and didn’t get in, but also wanted to go to their Vet school. She went to a local community college to finish becoming a Vet Tech and the course work she needed to apply while working for a Veterinarian for a few years. She did get into the Vet School. That was over 6 years ago so I would definitely call to make sure things haven’t changed, but there are many routes to get there if that is what you really want.
