TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@nomatter my frustration is partially from the fact that A&M leaves these kids hanging for far too long. But also from conflicting info provided on here repeatedly. If you have read ever single page of this post & last year’s and aren’t aware of the conflicting information then aren’t reading this same post that I am reading.

@Mommydoodle No one is forcing you to read this blog. It might be best for you to just stop getting on here if it frustrates you that much.
These ladies give their time to help others out. I’ve learned a wealth of information from them.

I was so hopeful my daughter would have received a decision this morning so we can move on one way or another. She is still sitting at 3 Tabs and in review.

Still in review this morning… Disappointed but not surprised. I called yesterday and the lady told me that it would be mid-March at the latest.

what even they literally said march 1st

That’s part of the problem. The admissions office tells everyone a different date. They need to have a big meeting and decide on what to tell us parents so they’re all on the same page.

First thanks everyone, I’ve been lurking for a few months learning quite a bit. My son was denied and offered PSA a few days ago. STATS:

Applied back in Oct
ACT 25, Math 26
2 good LOR
3rd Quartile, very competitive school
GPA 3.35
1 AP class
No Dual Credit
Started own business and worked for 4 years
No volunteer hours

He is still deciding in TTU engineering, or Blinn Brenham Engineering Academy route if that works out, but has not rules out PSA @ Tarleton.

I absolutely feel for all the parents and students still in review. I know this year has been epic number of applicants, but Admissions office does need to get their act together-be consistent across the board on what they tell people. Website, Twitter, students who answer the phone, campus tour guides, etc all need to give the same answer. If the answer/deadline changes, they all need to know that, again, to give the same answer.

Consistency & communication is always key…

@Mommydoodle - I think you may be confusing conflicting information with likelihood. Stats can be manipulated but they don’t lie. And these are the stats - unless TAMU is in violation of federal reporting (which I am pretty darn sure they are not).

This is class of 2021 - we know 2022 has more students in the top 25% - but that complete data set was not online when I crunched these numbers. And this is enrollment not admission - so there were more people admitted, but the breakdown is probably the same since the apply/admit/enroll yield follows the clear pattern, year after year.

Based on the https://dars.tamu.edu/Student/files/CDS_2017-2018.aspx
we know that 60% came from top 10%. 88% from top quarter (or the 12% that is not top 10). 98% (minus the top quarter) from top half, so 10% came from 2Q, as 2% came from bottom half.

So if I crunch those numbers…

Based on these numbers for the 10,097 first time/full time freshmen:
6052 were top 10%
2827 were top 25% (that were not in the top 10% - so 10.1%-25%)
1010 were 25%-50%
202 were 50%-75%
None below 75%

So someone has about a 2% chance of being admitted from the 3rd quarter. Not likely at all. But there were still 202 freshmen blissfully strolling through the TAMU campus in the fall or 2017 that came from the 3rd quarter of their graduating class - and one of those people’s mom is an active participant on this board. But you will notice that there is only one. And that is just about what you would expect from our sample size. If someone asks to be chanced on this forum that is in the 3rd quarter - the ladies that do chance people are going to say no - because the likelihood is next to none. But anecdotally people can say “Well I know this boy at my son’s school at he got into TAMU and he was not even in the top half of his graduating class.” That statement could very will be true. Rare but true.

Well, we were also hoping fo some closure today as we are in Lubbock for a tour today. But guess we also wait for that closure. Wondering if maybe they will send out PSA tonight like they did last Friday. But who knows…at least weather will be fabulous here ?

No I sadly don’t @JaceyK

I received an email about financial aid from TAMU, but I have not been accepted. Is this something that I should be happy about or does everyone receive the financial aid email?

when did you get it? the email?

also what 6 tabs is everyone talking about

Do those numbers include TEAM?

@GabrielTamez Is it about the student data form? Everyone receives that accepted or not. Otherwise, I would think it depends on the context of the email…probably not anything though - I don’t think TAMU precludes any kind of acceptance with emails about financial aid.

@kATX If your son is deciding between PSA and Brenham Academy I would look real hard at the academic requirements to gain full admission to TAMU. PSA requires a minimum 3.25 GPA to transfer and at least a B in Engineering Calc 1&2 and Eng Chemistry and Physics. Also, I am pretty sure PSA transfers do not participate in ETAM as they do not take the required freshman engineering class. The Academies require a 2.5 to be eligible to participate in ETAM, require a C in those math and science classes, and the students take the required TAMU freshman engineering class taught by TAMU.The calc and science courses are very challenging and can be a kick in the teeth. One C in any of those 4 courses and you are not eligible to transfer via PSA. At the academy you are co-enrolled, live in a living learning dorm with other engineering students and can even go to Fish camp and football games. You also have access to the the A&M campus and Zachary complex. You take a couple of class trips there a year. They took all the academy students to a career day at Reed to give them a taste of the recruiting process. Had to buy my son a suit!

I received an email from TAMU this morning regarding financial aid but I have not been accepted yet. Is this a good sign or do all applicants deal with this?

@boyjack not all on this thread are female… :open_mouth:

This morning I finally saw changes in my portal. I now have 6 tabs and my first choice major which was Biology was changed to general studies and the term switched from Fall 2019 to Summer 2019 but my application still says in review. What does this mean?
