TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@prospectiveaggie2023 Congratulations!! You got the highly coveted Gateway offer! If you accept, you will start 2nd summer session instead of Fall - then you will be full-fledged Aggie Fall 2019!!

@prospectiveaggie2023 What are your stats?

@prospectiveaggie2023 what are your stats?

Coming back to report that I believe my son received Gateway. This morning there were 6 tabs. Under AIS it’s changed his degree to General Studies and Summer of 2019. His application still says “in review” but all those other things leads me to believe it’s Gateway. Am I correct in my assessment?

I will share more details below ONLY because I know there has been so much talk about who gets gateway. Please know my intent is just to share information- not to boast or try to show why I think my son is deserving. There are so many deserving students waiting on a decision and next year people will be reading this thread just as I read the entirety of last year’s thread.

GPA: 4.10(w): 3.65 UW
Class rank: 20.5%
SAT: 1200 (1230 super-scored - 650 math: 580 r/w)
Honors/AP classes: 9 (he is in a STEM magnet program - we are in Texas)
EC’s: part of a youth organization that does community service (200+ hours), owns and runs a business .
Degree choice: 1- Mays; 2 - AgBusiness

Here are a few things to share. And these are just random things that may OR may not have lead to Gateway.

  1. He doesn’t test well. He’s in a competitive school with a good GPA but struggles with testing (not mentioned in his application but maybe they saw that?)
  2. He goes to an inner-city school that is a Century Scholar school.
  3. He did not have a lot of extra-curriculars but he was very dedicated to the one organization that does community service and travel abroad. He had a few other things that also involved community service.
  4. His father was murdered when he was 11. In his essay he talked about the effect this had on him in his teen years and his fight to be successful despite this tragedy. It was heartfelt. He is NOT a writer but spent hours and hours writing and re-writing this essay. He doesn’t speak about his father’s murder at all so this was a huge step. But it formed so much of who he is today. So not written for pity, but to explain overcoming the odds.
  5. He had a letter of recommendation from a distinguished Aggie alumni (class of 1955) that was very thorough and truly excellent.

My son is a hard worker. He began working on a farm when he was 14. At age 16, he started a mobile auto detailing business that’s become quite successful. He talked about it in his essay. So maybe they saw his dedication?

Still here on the sideline rooting for everyone!

good morning so we are still in review. what boggles my mind is if those that applied and admission Is saying that full admission and blinn (Full) why don’t they just update AIS with one or the other (PSA, Gateway or Denial), it just doesnt make sense to me what the wait is, what is gonna hurt most is if it does last till mid march and all you get is a denial at the end. I know I have heard that the school doesn’t wait for students to not accept their offers to make room for those that are still in review but I don’t know if that is the case at this point. I’m not sure how the admission algorithms work?

Congrats @prospectiveaggie2023 :bangbang: Not many get offered Gateway
accept quickly if that’s the route you want to take.

Congratulations @SAMomofOne Very excited for your son - especially after suffering such a huge loss. Prayers for both of you and for him to have a successful future at TAMU!!

@SAMomofOne HUGE congratulations to your son on his well deserved admission!

What are the 6 tabs?

Stats
ACT 24
Unweighted GPA 3.69
Weighed GPA 4.02
I’ve been taking AP classes since my Freshman year and my Junior year I began to take IB courses so I can hopefully receive my IB Diploma
I do not have a rank since my school does not rank students

Nothing for my son this morning.

@JaceyK - I’m hoping they are still giving out Gateway offers and your son receives one! I’m invested now in following this thread!

@SAMomofOne your son sounds AMAZING! Congrats and best of luck to him! Gateway will be the perfect opportunity to help ease him into college life, setting him up to succeed. Sounds like you’ve done a great job parenting ???

so like does everyone get the 6 tabs at the same time? or will they come at different times?

@SAMomofOne congratulations on receiving Gateway. It sounds like your son is the perfect target candidate for Gateway as it is intended. Sorry for your loss but hope this will be a positive event in your lives. Best of luck!

I am empathetic to the frustration. And as I read the thread I wonder where I would be,emotionally, had my son not gotten a decision yet.

That said, my son still hasn’t heard from Purdue, Michigan or VT. I don’t think, and I may be wrong here, that the AO at any of these Universities are sitting there holding on to decisions, whether good or bad, just to let our kids hang on.

@kATX - sounds like we are in the same district. My son has stats close to yours. Do you mind messaging me as to which HS he goes to? This may give us some peace of mind. Thanks so much!

@SAMomofOne Congratulations to you and your son! This is why TAMU does a holistic review. They look beyond the stats and dive deeper to take a look at the person, as best they can. Your son will make a GREAT AGGIE! Gig’em!

So we wake to several getting closure. That’s a start right? Congrats @SAMomofOne we have been pulling for you. This program will be perfect for you guys. So exciting.

@prospectiveaggie2023 welcome to the forum and congrats!!!

dang, like many I was hoping to spend four years in cstat, looking more and more likely to be PSA
