TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

Correction: accept PSA happily really meant beaten down by the process to the point of accepting happily but then there were limits and removing viz was our limit. Thank you for your wishes. We really wanted the girls to go to the same school but ultimately they are individuals and we will adjust and be good. God closing a door is just as great a blessing as opening one even though we think we know what we want. So the take home info of my joining is siblings, twins, etc. dont get any special consideration. We can firsthand vouch for that. As for the top 10%ter…UTD accepted her but drastically undercut her scholarship-wise. Her stats were greater than many full riders this year so it was odd to us. So theres no full ride to entice us to turn down Mays. So Im a mom who sees both sides of the 10% rule. We even tease her that shes an annoying 10%ter but obviously she knows we are very proud of her too! But geeeeezzz I can relate to the pain of in review…

My major change button disappeared on the howdy page but not on the AIS page!!! Make sure to check the howdy page as well!! :slight_smile: Good luck to everyone :smiley:

@Momw2going2019 , my husband is very active in the DFW DataViz community and he’s ALL ABOUT the ATEC program at UTD. He’s a little bit bummed our kid would rather do Parks & Rec via PSA than take his direct admit to ATEC at UTD. They are focused on doing great things in ATEC–I think she’ll be very happy there.

@AggieDreamin Yep, I’m BIMS and my change of major button disappeared too.

@Momw2going2019 Would you mind sharing your daughter’s stats who received PSA?

@Momw2going2019 ugh the struggle. So
Exciting for both tho. Sounds like two different and successful girls. Congrats on both. UTD is an amazing program for Viz. Mays is great for business.

Anxious with all of the bims and health majors waiting to hear. We parents care so much more than I feel our own parents did. Maybe not the caring but the interest. My parents had no idea where I applied. Boy have times changed.

My change major button disappeared… if I get PSA could I go to Blinn College at the Bryan campus for 1 year then transfer to A&M?

@alexxaudaro Blinn Bryan is not a system school for the PSA prog. You could still go to Bryan as a regular CC student and elect to follow a PTA pathway (guarantees admission) IF your desired major has one. Both these links will help you.

http://admissions.tamu.edu/PTA

It’s really important you do your homework on the viability of each of these options, there are some differences and prerequisites.

Going to Blinn for one year then trying to be a general transfer student would be another option for you to consider also. This route has no guarantee for admission tho - you’re up against all other transfer students

Change major disappeared from AIS now. Guess we will be notified sometime today?

@klopez yes, he’s aware of it - he hasn’t made any decisions on which major he will switch to. He was so set on BIMS and now he’s got to change it so he’s a little confused atm. What I find odd is that UH has an honors biomedical program but it’s requirements are a little higher than where my son is at (ACT is 29). He might apply anyway - application doesn’t open until 8/6. I wonder if I could get him to take ACT again to see if he can reach the 31. I don’t think he would be too thrilled about doing that though. LOL

Has he looked at UTD @JaceyK? Not my daughter’s area of interest- but they seem to have a good system in place to prepare students for medical and vet school admissions.

@Momw2going2019
I sent you a PM

@BlueBayouAZ No, we didn’t think to look there because we were burned by not getting any $$ when my daughter applied there (she was supposed to play softball for them). And they are the most expensive UT school in Texas (even more $$ than TAMU).

FYI on another thread there are Mays transfer hopefuls for the fall. They got tabs today. My point in sharing is to go look st their stats ( thread isn’t long). It’s doable peeps… transfer can happen for these students even if they don’t go a guaranteed route. Yay

@JaceyK i didn’t think to also mention UTD. They have Neurology program and fhis Biomedical Science https://www.utdallas.edu/pre-health/post-bacc-studies
But looks really compeitive. My daughter didn’t look into it closely because ā€œit is too close to homeā€. ?

@Scotsfi If I went the PTA route through Blinn Bryan is it possible to transfer in one year? And my major is Public health which I saw wasn’t an option, but Allied Health is.

@AggieDreamin
My daughter said the same thing about UTD. It’s too close!! That’s why us mommies like it ?

@NoScreenNameAv - Best I can tell - this is just a parent playing around with the data.

https://dars.tamu.edu/Student/files/CDS_2018-2019.aspx The common data set - C1 - shows 10,039 Freshman full time students enrolled. But on the university reports 10,757:
http://provost.tamu.edu/Provost/media/Assets/pdfs-essentials/TexasA-Messentials_Freshman-Overview_ew.pdf

If I add the number of part time students I get over 11,100. So that isn’t right. But if you add the ā€œgeneral studiesā€ students from page two of the bottom link you get to 10,757.
https://dars.tamu.edu/Student/files/Apply-Admit-Enroll-Sum-All-Fa18-incl-Galveston.aspx

It appears that General Studies is the Major TEAM folks and gateway students who don’t slip immediately into an open major are classified as in the fall of their first semester (Gateway students can have a transition major).

So on the total enrollment number of 10,757 - I believe that does include TEAM. But TEAM and residual Gateway students may be pulled out on other reporting.

Basically I think that the engineering academy students are grouped with TEAM in one reporting document (Provost). But they are with the engineering departmentin another report (apply-admit-enroll).

Clear as mud? Maybe @Thelma2 can weigh in. She has been dealing with these reports much longer than I have.

@alexxaudaro PTA is designed to be that one year guaranteed transfer prog - if you meet all the required hr, GPA and prerequisite courses. Now if your major isn’t an option …there will be others on this forum WAY more knowledgeable than me to give you great advice - @Thelma2 @AggieMomhelp Plus a call/meeting with an advisor at both Blinn Bryan and your desired /possible alternate major route at A&M should def keep you on the correct path.

I’ve been reading this thread for months. My son is a BMIS major as first choice. He lost his change of major tab today. Not sure what it means, but he really wants to be in the Corps. It’s why he chose TAMU.

When did you apply: 9/23
When did you get your UIN: 10/5?
When did you receive your admission decision: Still in review officially
Are you an Auto-admit or Academic Admit or Review Admit: Review
Major/College of Choice: BMIS or Chemistry
Class Rank: 100/659 15%
SAT (with Sub Scores). 1320
ACT (with Sub Scores) 26 but 30 in Math

Like everyone else: NHS, Student Council, Baseball, Methodist Church member/volunteer, CIT camp Grady Sprice, CYAC (congressional youth advisory committee-Sam Johnson), academic honors, lots of AP classes, volunteer hours.

It’s been really stressful!
