@Mommydoodle Wishing her the very best at Alabama…I am sure she will flourish there It probably feels good to have closure and begin really planning her future. Cheers to her!!!
My son has confirmed that he has finally lost his change of major button
@wewait I am assuming that he has been checking only his AIS portal vs Howdy under Applicant->Manage Applications. AIS only updated today but the Howdy updated yesterday. So if that is the case he lost it at the same time yesterday as everyone else. Good Luck!
We are looking into PTA route. I read there is a mandatory meeting with the admission office.
How can i take an appointment with PTA admission office. Thanks.
@avvi I believe you are a Biology major? This is the link to the PTA sheet and a contact is listed at the top.
https://admissions.tamu.edu/admissions-staging/media/Main/pdfs-pta/SCI-Biology.pdf
That being said, what is your (or your DD or DS) end goal? Is it medical school? If so, you should consider whether PTA makes sense as most medical schools do not like to see core science classes done at Community College. I would also recommend calling the Biology department and talking to a transfer advisor. Good to make sure you know the pros/cons between PTA vs Straight Transfer.
For those interested in Medical School…I talked to the pre-professional admissions counselor and they pointed me to this site. https://opsa.tamu.edu/Professional-Programs/Medical
Also, it doesn’t specifically say that they don’t like see the core science done at CC but the did verbally confirm that and I have been told this by several people. The only possible exception might be Physics but please confirm if you plan to take Physics at CC. This also applies to AP. My daughter has 8 hours of Bio 111/112 equivalent and will have to retake at TAMU…but good news is it shouldn’t be too bad given she has already taken it once.
I have been reading this thread for about a month now as my son will be applying to A&M for fall 2024.
He will be a review admit candidate and I am shaking in my boots how each year it seems to become more and more difficult to get into A&M than the year before. I am floored by some of these PSA decisions.
With that difficulty in mind, I have some questions regarding the application process, for example can he start working on his essays now, or will they release new essay questions on July 1 when the fall 2024 application opens?
I have a couple of other questions, but first want to ask if it is OK to ask these kinds of questions here, or is there a thread for questions/tips/advice for the application process? I looked but did not see one. Maybe I am missing it.
PS Thanks to all the knowledgeable CC members who are so generous with sharing your experience and helpful advice. I can’t thank you all enough. I hope you all can muster up the energy and desire to continue for the 2024 kids! (Ummmm… and the 2024 parents, LOL!)
@GermanPancakes Welcome! Hope we haven’t scared you too much but it is great that you are here early and learning all the gotyas ahead of time. Most of us are learning as we go along and yes, it has been painful for review admits and the competition is fierce!
They will post the essay question earlier than July 1st but not sure when. You can probably call admissions and ask them…they are good about fielding questions. Apply as early as possible to make sure you remove that factor. Of course, if there is hope that your kiddo will be able to get academic admit then keep taking SAT/ACT to get those scores up. That is the very best way to get in unless your class rank is 2Q-4Q and then he/she will still be a review candidate.
Good luck!!!
@GermanPancakes Also, I only heard this on the forum but seems there is a rumor that they may do away with academic admit next year and go to a fully holistic review (except Top 10%). I find it kind of hard to believe because it will create an exorbitant amount of work for the admissions team to go through all those applications. Just mentioning it to alert you just in case that happens and maybe watch to see what they post when information starts coming out for 2024 cycle.
@AggieDreamin I did see that somewhere, but I think @Thelma2 said it was just a rumor. However, on a local FB page I follow, the admin did say there would be some kind of change for A&M next year. I think after this year, they’ve got to change something.
@GermanPancakes welcome!

Excellent FB page to follow!
Went and had my PTA meeting today. It was fairly painless and I’m pretty excited!
just one year at blinn and I’m good to go !
@dyinginhs Did you do it in person or over the phone?
Thank you @AggieDreamin and @52AG82 for the welcome! And thanks for the quick answer to my question!
My son’s test scores are fairly good (he is scheduled for round 2 of testing next month hoping to improve), but he is in the 2nd quarter of his class, so he will be a review admit. This will reduce his chances greatly, I think. Looking at the 2022 thread gave us hope that his test scores gave him a decent shot at Blinn Team, but after seeing the decisions posted this past week in this thread, we have scheduled visits to TTech, OSU, OU and Arkansas so he can start thinking about what plans B and C might be.
He would like to major in business… so there’s that. Ugh.
Does anyone know if Architecture fills up early? He was thinking urban planning with a business minor might be an acceptable alternative to Mays. If anyone has opinions on that (or knows whether or not it is even possible) I would love to hear them.
I forgot to say best wishes to your kiddos --and the students reading this-- in the fall! This thread has been a wild ride for this 2024 parent, so I can’t imagine how it’s been for all you 2023 peeps!
@GermanPancakes Howdy! This is like your pregame warm up!!! Architecture fills up because it’s not a big college. However, that route… urban planning with bus minor, sounds great.
@GermanPancakes definitely like/follow the Wendy Andreen Phd page-huge resource! She’s a former high school counselor, really knows her stuff. Tech, UArk, OSU and OU are all super popular choices for the kids from our area. Great schools, lots to offer. And yes, plans A-C and beyond are needed. Good luck‼️
Thanks AggieMomhelp. Ha ha, pregame warmup, a great way to put it. My head is spinning trying to take in all the little details but the info here is so helpful.
If he lucks out and gets Blinn Team, how difficult is it to transfer into architecture?
I’m curious to know the number of Q2 students admitted the last few years. I have a feeling the number shrinks every year.
One more question: should both letters of recommendation be from teachers? With him in Q2, I’m wondering if it might be best for a couple of teachers to vouch for him being a great student now despite getting off to a rocky start as a freshman.
@AggieDreamin
In person, there was paper work that needed to be filled out.
How does pta work? Also how did you schedule a meeting?
@ATM00023
you can either walk in (Room 109 in the John J. Koldus Building) during office hours, or you can schedule an appointment using:
https://recruiter.tamu.edu/portal/AgPSCAppointment
As for PTA itself, they’ve got a pretty helpful website here: http://admissions.tamu.edu/PTA
Tl;dr - You attend community college for 30 credit hours, maintain a 3.2, take the required courses, and are guaranteed admissions assuming said requirements are met. (note, it’s only for participating majors)
Has anyone received 6 tabs on howdy today or been accepted into McAllen?
