TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@Thelma2 a friend called Transportation today, asking about parking pass. Transportation told my friend incoming freshman couldn’t buy a pass yet, since dorm assignments have been done. It won’t show our students as ‘qualified’. Does that sound right??

@52AG82 , technically the info you got, was correct. You cannot “buy” your pass today. What incoming freshman were able to do today was go into their account and register for a pass. Meaning, they could select their preference of where they would like to park. Decisions on if they get that spot, will come in July, and once the student accepts that in July, they can choose to be billed on their student account. My daughter registered today and requested where she would like a parking spot. She requested based on what her top 3 choices of dorms are, which, of course we won’t know till mid May what dorm she ends up in. Hopefully, that all made sense.

@sweeney1996 thank you:bangbang::bangbang:

@52AG82 same for current students, fyi. We applied for parking and listed top 5 choices. We won’t find out til July either.

@AggieMomhelp thanks. For real, it’s a full time job, trying to get my incoming freshman all squared away! Just left the pediatrician, with Med+Proctor forms filled out, Meningitis vaccine given…I’m totally patting myself on the back ??, feeling accomplished!
Parking info was very varied -Transportation saying something slightly different, so glad my kid went ahead and registered for a parking pass. I need to ask her-I’m not sure she listed 5 lots-should she list up to 5? (I think she listed 3). Her NSC isn’t until mid July, but she’ll find out dorm before that. July 3 is the magical date for changing parking lots/packages, correct?
Absolutely grateful for this page, and the ‘seasoned’ Aggie mom’s that share tips & info! ?

Does anyone know what questions they ask when you call (the first step for an appeal)?

@ek2323 The deadline for appeals has passed, it was April 1st.

It says april 15th on the website

@luckyaggie it says april 15th on their website

@ek2323 You have to meet with an admissions counselor by April 1st, and submit your reasoning and documents by April 15th I believe. I went April 1st and he told me he was glad I came in because it was the last day to file an appeal.

@luckyaggie Wow, that’s super misleading if that’s true. I plan on calling tomorrow.

@ek2323 When I last checked it said April 1st, they might have changed it. But if you do plan for an appeal, they won’t ask you a series of questions. It’ll be “why do you want an appeal” and you have to provide reasonable hard evidence of hardship in order to actually be considered.

@52AG82 omg I’m laughing… “pat myself on the back”. Too funny. It’s the small stuff right?

For fish they are doing it differently than before. She’s picking areas of where she wants to live not lots (is my understanding). For current students, they pick actual lots or garages. I didn’t mean to confuse you. Was trying to convey that no student will know until July (except those renewing their spot).

And I don’t know of a magical date. If you don’t get what you want, you’ll be put on waiting list. Very likely to open up.

@luckyaggie if you check the website now it says “you must submit the appeal by april 15.” i have my reason along w documents to back it up. calling tomorrow, fingers crossed.

Mama with correct students- what are the costs of books these days? Are they digital now or still physical textbooks?

@Aggie1998 It’s a mix of digital text books, standard hard cover and many courses have a cheaper loose paper version of the text book which you can take to the copy store and spiral bind. Hard covers are very expensive.

NOTICE for Class of 2024 applicants: Apply Texas essay topics have changed. Find the topics here: https://www.applytexas.org/adappc/includes_v2/essay_prompts_2020.pdf

@aggie1998 I would also be careful about ordering books ahead of time. Most profs will say… you don’t need the book. My exams come from lectures, etc. You can look at ratemyproffessor as well and many students will comment if they needed the book or not. I spend less than $300 on books and labs (math labs/econ labs online) per semester.

@Aggie1998 I concur with @AggieMomhelp The first week of class will let them know what materials/books they need. There will be online access stuff they will need to purchase and they won’t know that until they go to class.

My son registered for,the New Student Conference for June 11.

I just noticed that it says Jun 11-12; is this conference 2 days??

thanks for help!
