TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@3rdgenAg THANK you so much for sharing and a huge congrats on a job well done for your daughter. Can you share what her major is and if she lived with HS friends or went random and if any of them went to TAMU which further helped her get more exposed to campus life? Thanks again. This will help many.

@3rdgenAg Huge congrats to your daughter! WHOOP! Welcome to AggieLand

Does anyone have recieved a financial aid letter or package by mail? I only can see my letter on Howdy portal, but dates on the letter are keep changing. I’m not sure if my financial aid awards have decided or not.

My son is a PTA transfer to CoSci and he has 6 tabs this afternoon but it says ā€œcomplete and in reviewā€. What does this mean? Thanks in advance!

@CrazyMom23 Six tabs means the decision is coming but it has not posted on his AIS yet. Howdy often says complete and in review even after a decision appears on AIS, even for those denied admission. Just wait on AIS to update with the decision.

Thank you Thelma! I thought this was the case 4 years ago with my oldest but didn’t know if things had changed or were different with transfers.

@3rdgenAg : WHOOP!! CONGRATS to your daughter for persevering and following her dream, and working her tail off to make sure it came true!!! I know that it was a blow to her ego to be offered PSA, but it is just that THERE ISN’T ENOUGH ROOM!! Her strength of character and determination will take her far in life. Congrats to you for raising her to believe in herself! I am so glad that Blinn had a PTA program that fit her target major. Starting college in Aggieland is an incredible experience.

I am not from TX, also went OOS to college from a different state than my home state and I had NO IDEA what all of the fuss was about until my oldest daughter became an Aggie! Now I’m a believer! LOL There is something truly special about the Aggie life.

Please re post your daughters stats and other info so that families in future admissions cycles have the info. I think knowing that PSA offer is not the end of an Aggie dream will be of great comfort to a lot of people. Since the Academic Admissions category has been dropped, a lot more families are going to go through the agony of a long wait for Holistic Review and many highly qualified students may be offered PSA.

Very happy for y’all! WHOOP!

The list of Class of 2019 Valedictorians and Salutatorians for our ISD has come out. Very interesting to see where they are going to college:

2 are going to TAMU
4 are going to UT Austin
1 is going to UT-Dallas
3 are going to U of Houston
1 is going to Harvard
1 is going to Princeton
1 is going to Columbia
3 are going to Stanford
1 is going to Georgetown
1 is going to Wesleyan
1 is going to University of Virginia
1 is going to Miami University (think this is Miami of Ohio and not U of Miami in Florida)
2 are Undecided

The various majors listed are either Business or STEM related fields.

So about half or less of our best and brightest students are going Out of State. Only 2 out of 22 are going to TAMU, 4 out of 22 are going to UT Austin, so therefore, only 6 out of 22 are going to the TX flagship Universities. Only 10 out of 22 are staying in TX. Good to see that some students are staying in TX, I hope that the Undecided students stay in Texas.

These stats show that the Top X percent in our ISD are not going to the flagship Universities which have the Top X percent Automatic Admissions rule. Doing away with the Academic Admit category will make it even harder for high achieving students from very high performing ISDs to get into TAMU. Just my 2 cents.

A neighboring smaller, more rural ISD lists their top 2 as going to U of Houston and TAMU, both in STEM fields.

Haven’t been on this thread since February and March, but today I got a call from the admission office to offer full acceptance to TAMU engineering from Blinn Team, wonder if that’s a common thing but nevertheless I am so happy

DD was offered PSA so chose straight Blinn. She has 15 dual credit hours. Trying to decide if she should take 13 hours in the Fall and 15 in the Spring and try for a normal transfer or 16 hours in the Fall and try PTA. 16 hours seems like a lot for a Freshman. Any advice is appreciated.

@txmomuv2 I would suggest straight transfer after 24 credits. If her DC are a strong GPA and her Fall semester is strong, then apply in January for either summer or Fall transfer. What is her intended major? That is a pretty strong factor in making this decision.

@AggieMomhelp she only has a 3.0 on the 15 DC credits. She knows she will need to make A’s in the Fall. That is why I only want her to take 13 hours. She does not know if she wants Kinesiology or Communications. She will have to choose before registering for Spring. She also has 9 AP hours that she will ā€œclaimā€ later.

Depending on the field, Kinesiology could be pretty competitive. Ag Comm vs regular Comm has proven to be less competitive (to get foot in the door). Just a thought.

3.0 isn’t great, but it’s not bad. Should be easy to pull up with all As in the Fall. Just make sure she’s taking the required coursed for transfer into whatever major she chooses. Have y’all looked at that?

Yes, all classes apply to both majors…math, biology, public speaking and govt.

Thank you for your help!

Perfect and I’m assuming English was taken as Dual. She should be good with any of those majors unless doing the science side of Kinesiology. Check out the Ag Com and Journalism degree. It’s a great major too and easier to get into if her Fall grades aren’t where she wants them. And the Ag department is one of the best colleges on campus.

Yes, she has her English. Her Biology is for science majors and she already had Biology AP. We will look at Ag Com. Thank you!

@txmomuv2 just make sure when she applies that her essay gives a nod to her 2nd choice major. It has to make sense. They don’t like it when the student only talks about first choice and what they’ll do with the degree. Her plans need to align with both majors. I know that’s a ways away, but just giving you a heads up. We learned this from an advisor when my daughter applied.

I am not familiar with most of this
So. I am so grateful for all the info i read to allow me to he the best support i can.

I completely agree with you, @Keepitmovingdad ! I’m not sure why @Thelma2 and @AggieMomhelp aren’t ā€œForum Championsā€ or whatever the site is now calling the experts on the subforums! They should be!

@chercheur too funny. You provide a wealth of knowledge yourself!!! With things changing so fast, we need all hands on deck to help this next group get through the process!
