TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@chercheur I am SO thankful you have hung around since your student went through the application process. Your advice and experience brings a lot to the table, along with others that have stuck around.
Aggie Mom and I are not Forum Champions because I think you have to have a gob of posts/replies that takes years to garner. This cycle is my 5th cycle to be on CC and 4th without a student applying, and I have only a fraction of posts as the Champions. Thank you for your kind words though.

I come and go, but you guys are ALWAYS here helping students and parents. I know I haven’t thanked you both enough!

I’m going to follow @AggieMomAgain 's lead.
The list of where the Class of 2019 Valedictorians and Salutatorians for our ISD is going to college:
4 - UT
2 - UH
1 - TAMU
1 - RICE
1 - SMU
1 -Harvard
1 - Yale
1 - MIT
1 - Cornell
1 - Hotstra
And they are all STEM or business majors too. We have a larger percentage saying in state 9/14 - which surprises me because we live in an area where many, many people are not native Texans.

My son applied on the 3rd and everything is checked off except for the SRAR so it shows app incomplete. It says it is not done, but if we go to the link it shows it is linked and has been sent. Does anybody else have this issue? It has now been over two weeks so not sure when it updates and want to make sure eveything is sent in early since he is trying for Mays.

@“abcollege?456” you should post this in class if 2024 thread or the before you hit submit thread. This is last years class (incoming Aggie fish) and they didn’t have srar. You guys are going to have to educate us on this process!!

Is he academic or auto admit?

Sorry about that! He is auto -admit

Does anyone know when Christmas break begins and ends for this upcoming school year? @thelma @AggieMomhelp

@JhaveyJ first day of break is dec 12 and first day back is January 13.

@JhaveyJ Here is the fall exam schedule. Your student might be finished earlier depending on their classes.

We could tell on this thread, that the number of review applicants admitted (including Blinn TEAM) was down. The stats are now being shared (Shout out to @Thelma2 for sending them to me) at admissions seminars - and they were what we were expecting. It is very rough for review applicants. Only 5350 were admitted. That is down from 7,928 in 2018.

Here is a look at the numbers. They admitted about the same number of students the past two years - but the number of Top 10 percent and Academic admits is up and the review admits is down. In previous years they were continuing to grow the size of the freshman class. For the class of 2023 - they decided to keep the size about the same.

2019
49,700 total apps
26.4% - Top 10% 13,100
10.9% - Academic 5,400
4.7% - Review full 2350
6.0% - Review Alternative 3000
(23,850 total or 48% admitted - 23,733 or 56.8% admitted in 2018)

2018
41,760 total apps
26.7% - Top 10% 11,159
11.1% - Academic 4,646
9.9% - Review full 4,115
9.1% - Review Alternative 3,813

27.6% -PSA 11,518
15.6% - Denied 6,509

In 2018 - 42.2% of applicants got PSA or denied. In 2019 that number was 52%. So nearly 10 percent more students were PSA or denied for the class of 2023. In 2018 about 19% of the admitted students came out of review. 2019 it was 10.7%. So a review applicant in 2018 was almost twice as likely to gain admission than a review applicant in 2019.

There were roughly 31200 review applicants in 2019. You get that number by looking at the whole number of applicants minus the Top 10% and Academic admits (Review Full and Review Alternative - plus the 25,000+ PSA and denied.)

So 7.53% of review applicants were granted full admission. And 9.62% were given alternative admission. So in total 17% of review applicants were granted full admission, Gateway, Blinn TEAM or the engineering academy. In other words - less than 20 percent of all review applicants were granted admission.

Will a Ti-84 Calculator work for General Engineering or do I need to buy a Ti-89?

I just spoke to Bill Coari the PSA advisor at TAMUCC and he said they have 458 PSA students this year. That is 100 more than they have ever had.

That is very interesting. I wonder what the total number of PSA students is. I believe they actually reduced the number of majors participating in PSA - so the continued growth in the program is definitely noteworthy.

Any suggestions for printing at an apartment complex. Wireless doesn’t seem to want to work.

@Peanie5619 many complexes have computer/print areas. If not, they can print on campus at printing labs and libraries. They get a certain amount of prints per semester.

When do the auto admit letters/emails go out for Spring 2020? My son should be receiving one!

I would assume in September. Make sure your app is complete and in review on AIS.

Hey everyone. I am a high school senior, and A&M is my top choice for college. I completed my application on July 6th, and wanted some feedback on my chances to get accepted, because I really don’t know what my chances are at the moment. I have a 3.7 gpa and am in the top 25% of my graduating class (my school doesn’t rank, but that is what I was assigned by the university). I also have a 27 on my ACT. I would love someone else to offer feedback, because it’s killing me not knowing whether to have any hope or not, even though I know I won’t hear back from the school for quite some time. Thanks!

I’m not sure how much of an effect this will have on my chances, but just adding that I currently have 655 community service hours and am a part of the National Society of High School Scholars

@zgregory512 there’s a thread for high school class of 2020/prospective TAMU class of 2024 here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/texas-m-university/2148948-tamu-class-of-2024-admission-decisions-discussion.html#latest

That said, if you’ve had a chance to read through this thread for the last admission cycle, you’ll have seen that the admit rates were brutal for review admits. Still, you’ve got very strong stats, and are clearly a very accomplished high school senior (congrats!). Since TAMU ranked you in the 1st quater, give some consideration to retaking the ACT (you have a great score, btw), to reach the academic admit threshold for assured admission.

There is literally no way that anyone here can chance you. Just read this thread to see why. We saw a lot of outstanding candidates, like yourself, receive PSA last cycle. It’s a numbers game, and auto and academic admits are going to fill most of the spots. You still have a shot at academic admit. Even without it, you sound like a strong applicant. But, acceptance rates for review admits is around 10%.

Hop over to the current thread. There’s lots of anxious applicants and parents who are going to bite our nails with you through the current cycle.
