TAMU FALL 2020 TRANSFER ADMISSIONS

I figured it out: PSA is Fall & Spring ONLY at one of the 8 (does not include Galveston) system schools. PTA is any Texas State College for 30 hours…any semester. Her Majors do not include Spring Transfer (2021). So, she would have to “bring” her 12 hours into PTA, and take 18 hours Summer I & Summer II semesters, and then TAMU would say “you don’t have transcript available to transfer to CS Fall 2020”.

Anyone on here “deep diving” into PSA vs. PTA?

I feel like transfers won’t know anything until spring break, unfortunately. But I also haven’t talked to the admissions office so I really don’t know

@2NDGENAGGIE That’s at Texas community or junior college. And summer grades/credit won’t be applicable until Spring admission. All courses for consideration for Fall admission must be completed by the prior Spring (before Summer). She will have to apply for Fall admission in the Spring prior. What was her major? Weird that there are majors that restrict when they can apply…

@jaceyk we’re considering both PSA & PTA for our DD for Fall 2021. PTA, yes, at any Texas cc or jc. vs. PSA going to one of the 8 TAMU systems’ schools. I’m wondering, did any of the PSA-offered Admits consider PTA at all? Did any of the PSA Admits chose PTA path instead of PSA, and why? Our DD is looking at both, and she’s confident she’ll exceed both PSA’s & PTA’s requirements. She is in the Honors program for dual credit.

Sorry…prob wasn’t clear: Her first Major Choice: University Studies: SEAL is offered guarantee transfer with PSA. SEAL is NOT offered guarantee transfer with PTA.

@2NDGENAGGIE Have ya’ll considered just doing straight transfer? Go to community college (or even a 4 year school) and take the classes as specified under “Required Coursework for Admission”: https://web-as.tamu.edu/ecardimages/publications/2019TCS/LA19-US-SocietyLawEthics.pdf

That way there are no contracts, etc. I bet if she does well in her classes, she should get admission. What others have done is establish a rapport with the department advisors - ask questions, make yourself known, etc. They (department of major) will be the ones reviewing/approving the applications.

@JaceyK Key word there = “bet”. She attended 4 academic camps at TAMU CS (so she could confirm what she wanted to major in), knows the Dept heads that “run” that. Met with her #1 Major’s Academec Counselor last year (I know they don’t make the decision on app admission for Freshman admit, but, she wanted to understand major), scored a 28 on ACT (not shabby), and has a 3.9 unweighted GPA (not enough to get her into top 25% at her HS). I’m NOT COMPLAINING…giving you background, so you will understand why she has no desire to take another risk with “straight transfer”. She wants “guaranteed” admission/transfer Fall 2021. I don’t blame her. Thanks for the advice! So, that’s why she’s trying to decide b/t PSA & PTA, make the right choice, and “hunker down” to gain that required GPA (and grade min for PTA) for both/either.

@2NDGENAGGIE if her major isn’t offered through PTA and is through PSA, I would go the PSA route. You really can’t lose either way (except PTA, she could go to Blinn but as you mentioned, her major isn’t offered)…sounds like her only choice would be PSA, yes?

no, looking at PTA more b/c she wants to be in CS. If she wants to go to TAMUG, she now has to apply “directly”…but, she REALLY wants to be in CS. And, neither PSYC nor POLYSCI accept Spring Transfers…we need to look at SEAL to “throw” risking “straight transfer” route. Also, PSA “gains” you a Admissions Counselor in CS. IDK if PTA does.

@2NDGENAGGIE if you decide to consider straight transfer you may want to make an appointment with the advisor over there. As @AggieMomhelp mentioned we are one of those that has established a communication path with Fghe PSYC dept and they make the ultimate decision for straight transfer. They have been VERY helpful. They can also look at what she has with AP and Dual Credit and make a recommendation. For my daughter they recommended straight transfer over PTA. My daughter applied and is awaiting a decision but hoping that will happen by end of next week ??Proof will be in the pudding but we feel pretty good about it.

@2NDGENAGGIE for PTA it is required to meet with an advisor in CS and sign a contract/agreement.

thank you. Does anyone know a TAMU CS Major that accepts Spring “straight Transfer” apps? So, go to Summer I & Summer II & Fall to complete all required “base” classes, and then “straight transfer” in the Spring. Our daughter wants to go to Law School, and, as all Attnys know, and the ABA states, undergrad Major does not matter.

@2NDGENAGGIE None will - all “required” coursework MUST be completed the summer before for Spring admission. My daughter went through this when she transferred Spring 2019. She busted her butt trying to get her classes done the summer before (worked 30 hours and took Chem 1 & 2 and Calculus 1 & 2 both summer sessions - it slayed her).

I’m sorry…so frustrating for them to work so hard, and then “nope”. They didn’t accept her Spring transfer? I have a friend whose son Spring transferred to ARCH spring BUT that was after Fall & Spring & Fall at Blinn for “straight transfer”…so, don’t know how he got admitted in Spring? Maybe he was “tight” with counselors…like you said.

@2NDGENAGGIE is it possible that he had all his requirements done by end of Spring but didn’t apply in time for Fall transfer so he had to do Spring but applied in Summer? I believe that would be the only way to transfer in the Spring.

I doubt it b/c his mom is on top of everything…we grew up together, and she’s a Former Student too. Her second son was full admit.

Howdy, I am a second-year Blinn student and I am wondering what are my chances for admission to the college of Landscape architecture? My GPA is 2.52. I know my GPA is low but I have some personal stuff that I have gone through in my life. But I have many volunteer hours, A LOR from my uncle who was a graduate from TAMU for landscape architecture. I have completed the required courses for admission with a C or better. The minimum GPA for admission is 2.5 but I know it would be helpful the higher the GPA you have.

@babufrik1 I answered on the other thread you posted on… sorry.

Hi, I just want to see my chances! I am year two at Blinn and I changed my major this year to psychology because I wasn’t passionate about radiology! I applied for liberal arts January 1st, I have 29 transferable hours and a 3.07(which I know they require 3.0) and I hope to have a 3.3 by the end! I also got academic honors last semester and I think I wrote a pretty good essay describing how passionate I was for psychology! But, I’m taking one of the required Math courses this semester! And I have and A and B in the other two rehired classes! But what do you think the chances are they ask for my spring grades?
