TAMU FALL 2020 TRANSFER ADMISSIONS

@AggieMomhelp I will be applying for Fall 2020 as a Comp Sci major. My current gpa is 3.34 and 62 credit hours… I have A’s in Math and Science, a few C’s in core classes. I am taking Cal 2 and uni phys this spring and will get A’s. What are my chances to get into A&M considering i have a low gpa and have 2 required classes yet to finish?

Comp sci is competitive. Your gpa isn’t bad, but not having the required courses finished at time of app will hurt you. They may defer you vs denial. That’s a good sign if they do that.

Keep us posted. Good luck.

Hi everyone, please chance me!
I’m transfering from Lone Star College (Houston) with a 4.0 GPA. My major is Mechanical engineering, no second-choice major. I have completed everything except for CHEM 1412 (General Chem 2). I will have completed it and have its grade on transcript for Spring 2020. I’m afraid that they will reject me because of that one class in progress. I have good essay A i guess. 100+ hours of volunteer teaching foreign language for children at a local elementary school. no extra curicular yet because I plan to join a science club in the spring. I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
thank you for reading.

Applied: 12/31/19 (apply texas will allow you to apply now)
Term: Fall 2020
GPA: 3.81
Credits: 73
Major: Finance
Transfer Requirements: All completed (all A’s)
Transfer Recommendation: Completed (A)
LOR: 2 (waiting for access to Howdy to upload)

@Dorian Gray Looks like you have a solid application! Best of luck  Good to know it is already open.

I noticed that Applytexas let me start my application weeks before jan1 but I waited till midnight to apply just in case my application would be lost.
Major: Mays- Marketing
GPA: 4.0
Have not completed recommended course from Blinn
56 Credit hours, will have all freshmen and sophomore equivalent classes done by end of spring
Applied as a freshman last year with 40 hours and a 4.0 but didn’t get in so hoping this year goes different!

My daughter will apply as a Psychology major for Fall 2020. She has 20 dual-enrollment credits, and 12 credits from a very-competitive 4-year college (Wheaton College) from last semester, with a 4.0 GPA for both. She had been accepted to TAMU for last semester, but about a month before the semester started, she decided to go to Wheaton because she thought it would better prepare her for what she wanted to do with her life. But she came to realize that TAMU would have been a much better fit for her for a variety of reasons.

She has not yet taken a math course in college, and since a math course is a requirement to transfer into Psychology, she’ll be taking that in the Spring semester at a community college. It is possible to take MATH 1332 with a completion date of 2/14/20.

So, what I’m wondering is whether it is best for her to apply immediately, or apply after she completes MATH 1332.

Also, if she applies immediately, is there any advantage to taking the math course that finishes 2/14 instead of taking one that finishes in Mid-March or in May? One advantage that I can think of is that the sooner she can get accepted, the higher the chance that she can get on-campus housing.

One thing that’s puzzling about MATH 1332 is that it used to be listed as equivalent to TAMU’s MATH 166, but now it is not (listed as “TRNS” in Compass). Yet, it’s still listed as one of the alternatives in the transfer course sheet (http://admissions.tamu.edu/admissions-staging/media/Main/pdfs-transfer2019/LA19-Psychology-BA.pdf). Is it really acceptable, or would taking that cause her to be rejected? Would it be better for her to take MATH 1324 (TAMU’s MATH 140), even though she can’t get into a MATH 1324 that finishes before mid-March?

I know that some majors will wait for Spring grades, but I don’t know about Psychology. Psychology appears to be more competitive than some of the other majors. When she applied as a freshman, she wasn’t accepted into Psychology, which was surprising to us.

@Nuzula117 I would apply right away as it just opened up today and they will likely wait for Spring grades (or maybe once she finishes the required class). I am not sure about the Math question. I would reach out to the advising dept. right away to clarify to make sure takes the right class. My DD is applying to transfer to Psychology BS for Fall 2020 and the advisor was super helpful.

@Nuzula117 I just pulled up the TAMU Core Curriculum and it looks like it still lists Math 1332 as equivalent to MATH 166. Either way, I would still suggest reaching to to advising.

@Nuzula117 Sorry for all the posts…
You could also contact the head of the department who is also nice and helpful:

Additionally, Foreign Language (Spanish 1&2) is recommended if applying to a Bachelor of Arts.

@AggieDreamin, there’s no need to apologize; I appreciate the information!

We will be attending the Transfer Information Session on January 3, so we might be able to get some of these questions answered there, too. In addition, that morning we’re also scheduled to meet with one of the advisors in the Psychology department, although I don’t remember which one.

My daughter wrote to psycadvising@tamu.edu, and the person who responded said “For the in progress hours, you would have to talk to an admissions advisor about that because I’m not sure if they would wait until the end of the semester for grades to post or if they would go off of what is already on your transcript. To talk to an admissions advisor about this you would actually need to get into contact with the Dean of Liberal Arts because they are the ones that handle transfer applications.” I found a webpage to schedule an appointment with the Dean’s Office, but we haven’t done that yet. I suspect that liberalarts-recruitment@tamu.edu is their email address.

My daughter has finished Spanish I and II at Austin Community College, and she took Biology last semester at Wheaton. So, it seems she could either apply for BS or BA. She’s undecided about which one she wants to graduate with.

Good luck to your daughter.

We contacted elyssa@tamu.edu she is the Senior Regional Advisor Transfer Recruiting. Good luck

Hi y’all I am currently a freshman looking to transfer, what are my chances?

-Applied: 01/03/2020
-Term: Fall 2020
-GPA: 3.83
-Credits: 39 as of now and will end with 57-60 hours after spring/summer semester
-Major: Biology
-Second Major: BIMS
-Transfer Requirements: All will be completed by Spring Semester and Calc 1 will be completed in the summer. The only problem is that General Chem 2 will not be completed till next fall 2020. (One B so far in statistics, but A’s in the rest).

  • Involved in Greek life as well as 4 other EC all relating to medicine.

@lynn07 Unfortunately, the Chem 2 class is a requirement for admission. I believe that ALL requirements for Fall transfer must be completed by end of the Spring semester. For Spring transfer, all required coursework has to be completed by end of Summer. Your stats look fantastic though!

Does anyone know if TAMU retains your transcripts if you applied for Fall 2019. Wondering if we need to re-request them to be sent. Otherwise, we will wait until she receives her new UIN and check the portal. Just thought it might be good to get ahead of the ball a bit.

Also has anyone already applied and received their UIN? How long from when you applied did you receive it?

AggieDreamin, my son submitted his application Monday afternoon and received his UIN number very early Wednesday morning (5a.m.). He also requested his transcript from Lone Star (dual credit) and Blinn on Monday and those still show pending this evening. His transcript from high school did not show up or roll over to this new UIN. He went ahead and requested that on Tuesday. Hope this helps

@SMcC07 thank you! So they didn’t have any of his prior transcripts? We already sent 1st Semester from Blinn but looks like we need Dual Credit too if they don’t keep them. Was HS transcript a requirement to be considered for admission or only after they are accepted? Thought I read if you are accepted then you would submit HS transcript but could be wrong.

Applied 12/31/19 All Documents received (Green Check Mark) except 1 transcript that is pending (Yellow). Hoping to have it turn green come tomorrow night.

@aggiedreamin Need to submit final HS transcript - what they have (had) on file only went through Junior year anyway. And if DC was earned in HS, then that transcript needs to be submitted as well. Per website for application to transfer: “College transcript(s) for dual/college credit earned in high school must be submitted.” After admitted, then you submit final transcript. I wonder though - if DC courses are taken and HS reports on transcript, is that enough or does it have to be from the college taken from?

My son is requesting all transcripts - will have to send final transcript from TAMU CC when he finishes this semester.

@JaceyK I would think they need final college transcripts (DC and 1st Semester —for now and then final). Wondering if you send these if final HS is needed. Process is wonky for her because you have to have school send it directly and not through Parchment.
