is petroleum engineering highly competitive? or mechanical
@AggieMomhelp Hi, I am trying to transfer in fall 2020 for Civil Engineerig at A&M.
My gpa is 3.75 (3.96 w/o DC courses from high school), 59 credit hours. All A’s in required courses. I had a W in physics 1 but that was because I overloaded myself in the summer. All recommend courses completed besides Calc 3, Physics 2, and Differential Equations which I am taking Calc 3 and physics 2 semester. PTK member, NSLS member and I feel like my essay is good. Would’ve been done with Calc 3 and DE sooner but at my college but there was not the required amount of people in it for it to be a class before semester started and there was none left. What are my chances?
Hi @joaggie20 If you have completed all of the ‘required’ classes and currently taking the recommended classes with having some already complete, I think you’re sitting well to get into TAMU Engineering. Just depends on how competitive the current students and academy students are since they’ll get first preference on majors after they complete first year requirements.
What’s your second choice major? That’ll be important too.
@AggieMomhelp I put Electrical Engineering, these are two majors I have really kept in mind since I have been in high school.
Please keep us posted.
Has anyone had their transcripts fully accepted (vs “in process”) and received a green checkmark yet? Seems to be taking quite a while.
@AggieDreamin not yet, my transcript was received on the 8th.
Same boat on the transcript status. I’m assuming that they’re finishing up rolling out blinn team and psa offers to the freshmen admits which is taking most of their time?
Transfer is handled by individual departments vs freshman admissions so expected it to move a bit faster.
Transcripts still pending as well. Received Jan. 6th
Transcript still pending
Howdy y’all! I applied as an external transfer student for the Fall of 2020 in Mays Business School. I am hoping to major in Accounting.
-Non-traditional student; 28 years old
-3.80 GPA with 61 hours completed
-A’s in all ‘required’ coursework
-I have not attempted the recommended course (MGMT 211)
-Full-time job as a Starbucks shift supervisor held for the past four years while going to community college.
-Submitted two letters of recommendation (Macroeconomics professor and Financial Accounting professor)
-Solid submission for Essay ‘A’
What do you think?
Do I have a decent chance?
@Aggiebro You will get in. When I applied and got accepted last year I was told that as long as you had a 3.8+GPA and made an A in all of the recommended course work you would get in. Making an A in all of those classes is more important than having a higher GPA, with 3.8 kind of being the cut-off. I found out on March 7, 2019. Just wait and get ready to move to Aggie Land.
Thanks for the heads up! Hopefully that holds true this year. Haha I don’t want to count my chickens before they hatch
I meant to say required, but you got the point lol
Yeah makes sense. Are you going to try for any of the “high impact learning” opportunities in the business school if you make it in?
IDK. I can’t find much info on it.
Your choice of major is finance right? There are a ton in that department on their website…Titans of Investing, TRIP, Aggies on Wall Street, Petroleum Ventures. They all look very exciting!
I might look into it once I get settled at TAMU. It depends on how much I will have on my plate when I move down there
DD will be applying for fall 2020 transfer. She will meet all of the requirements for transfer admission for Allied Health. How big of a factor is the essay?
