TAMU Transfer Fall 2019

@wonderlust1

To echo @AggieMomhelp, BUSI 2371 is notoriously difficult at A&M. It’s totally your choice whether for not you take it next semester. Mays doesn’t consider spring grades for the admissions process whatsoever. However, it would be a great thing to knock out so you’re not bogged down with it when you get to Aggieland next fall.

I’m taking BUSI 2371 at Blinn with Kendra Suhling right now online. Super easy if you study. The class can be a bit irritating at times because some of the open note/book quizzes and tests have a ton of content from previous year’s textbooks, but it’s still not too hard to make an A. I take my final on Thursday.

Also, I reviewed a lot of this fall’s admissions forums, and the lowest GPA I saw that got into Mays was a 3.75. The person had one C or something. The average admitted GPA was 3.9 according to an email I received from the admissions department. To get that average, you have to have people in the 3.8 range. Your resume looks pretty good, so I wouldn’t worry a great deal. Check out those previous forums if you’re curious.

It would be wise to have a backup though. I visited the University of Houston over the weekend and decided to go there in case things fall through for me.

Hopefully we are future fellow Aggies!

Howdy y’all! I will be applying to the College of Education and Human Development for Fall 2019. I plan to major in either Allied Health or Kinesiology and apply to the nursing program later on. Currently I have a 3.49 on 25 credit hours (got a C in one of my class). At the end of spring semester I will have a told of 44 credit hours.

Just wondering what my chances are of getting in?
Praying for all the future aggies!!

@emd931 3.49 is solid, but I’m not sure how competitive COEd. is. I know Allied health is pretty hard to get into. Write a really passionate essay. Visit an advisor here if you can so they see your face. THEN, in your essay reference that person you met with etc. Shows real commitment. Good luck! Please keep us posted.

I have a 3.92 GPA and am trying my shot at Mays for Finance. I have all the recommended and required done as well. I think we all have a great chance. As far as recommendation letters go, I saw on TAMU’s website that Letters of Rec aren’t accepted for transfer students. Anyone else see this or am I the only one…? Hopefully not, and best of luck to everyone!

@logiiical1 I am not quite sure if LoR’s are accepted or not but, I think the way Mays selects the applicants for admission is by GPA and amount Hours Completed first then Essay and EC’s if the choice is close between applicants for the final spots. However, that is just from my research and past meetings with the Dallas Transfer advisor. From the recent posts, I have a feeling this application process is going to be extremely competitive this year but, we all have a great chance of becoming Aggies and I hope we all do! Best of luck to you and everyone and make sure to keep us updated!

@ExcGunnar Can you tell me more about Kendra Suhling’s online class? If the test is open book open notes are they proctored? I do not have web cam. I am thinking about registering for her class in the spring just to make sure TAMU will see that it is in progress when I send in my transcripts. Do you think that would help my chances any if they see that I am registered to take it?

Hey guys, does anyone know how long the Statement of Purpose essay should be? I know ApplyTexas has a 120 line 80 character maximum, but is there a word count that Mays Admissions prefers?

@wonderlust1 I would recommend Brandy Scholze for BUSI 2371 I am in it right now online because I am from Dallas and we have 16 discussion boards (250 word post and one 100 word response to another student per discussion) for the whole semester with 5 tests and a final. She gives us quizzes that aren’t for a grade but the quizzes are practically the tests and the tests are open book and notes as well.

@Walker03 The statement of purpose essay should be around 600 words. The prospective advisor at TAMU said that it should be about a page to a page and a half.

@Walker03 I wish I could man. The spring classes are booked and the only available profs. are Shane Stibora, the one I am currently registered for, and Kendra Suhling. I went ahead and registered for the class for spring so it will at least show up on my transcript, but I want to know more about the two profs. So I can pick the best one. lol

@logiiical1 thanks I guess I need to word cut I’m at 800 words haha!

@wonderlust1 I would recommend Suhling over Stibora @ExcGunnar might be able to give you some more information on the class, but I was going to register for her class until I noticed Scholze added an extra class for the fall semester and I registered for that one real quick! Look up Suhling’s syllabus on blinn and you might get an idea on the class!

@wonderlust1

Kendra Suhling’s class is super easy; I definitely recommend it. There’s a webcam with Tegrity for the first test and then for the final. The two in-between tests are open note.The final was super easy. I just got my grade back and I ended up with an A in the course.

Update: Im still sitting at a 4.0 right now with all A’s unless I get a B on my math final which puts me at a 3.93. Things are looking great!

@ExcGunnar I went ahead and shot her an email. Her response made me feel really comfortable with taking the class online. She seemed like a really nice professor. After our short exchange, I went ahead and registered. Now I am excited to apply with everything that I can do done. Thank you for your advice.

Howdy everyone, I am planning to apply for the fall 2019 to the Construction Science program, does anyone know how competitive it is to get in? Hope to hear soon!

@ExcGunnar Where did you find the book? I can’t find it on Chegg or on the Pearson website.

@CoscAggie That all depends on your stats. Do you mind sharing?

@wonderlust1

The book is a Blinn store exclusive. It’s a Blinn “custom edition” which means they took like 5 chapters out. Total BS, but I got it anyway because I didn’t know if anything was added or not.

@ExcGunnar I understand. Thank you.

Hey I was wondering I love math and made A’s in all of my math classes even took extra math classes like statistics. I am thinking I either want to apply for Accounting or MIS. Does anyone know if after being accepted if, say I apply for MIS and then get accepted and decide I want to do Accounting if I can change my major before accepting. I think a while back an adviser told me you get accepted by Mays and then confirm/pick your major before you come. Does any one know for sure?

@wonderlust1 After past meetings with my advisor, I believe it works like this: when Mays transfers apply we apply for the lower business tier, once accepted and Mays recognizes all course requirements have been met you then can apply for the upper level business school, which is when you go talk to a Mays advisor about the specific major you wish to Pursue. So to answer your question, I believe once accepted you are able to switch once you apply for the upper level but I would definitely talk to an advisor at TAMU to Confirm that is true. I thought about MIS too but decided that Supply Chain was more my route, I think you would like Acct. or MIS both great degrees! Good Luck!

I’m applying as a Chemistry major with a 3.5 GPA and I have 32 hours but next semester I’m taking 14 and I assume that they’ll defer my for spring grades since they need CHEM 102 and MATH 152 done which are the classes I’m taking next semester. I want to know what’s a competitive gpa for chemistry is?

@curryinvasion2 The College of Science is one of the most competitive, around a 3.5 is normally when transfer applicants become competitive; however, it is the lower half of competitive applicants. Chemistry is one of the most competitive degrees at the College of Science, since is requires at least a 3.0 GPA. To answer your question I would say around a 3.75 would be a good competitive GPA for transferring into Chemistry.

Although you have a competitive GPA, I would also like to tell you that the college states on their transfer guide that competitive applicants will have all Required course work completed by the time of application deadline which is March 1st. And since you are taking MATH 152 and CHEM 102 in the Spring the College will see them as incomplete, unless they are completed by the deadline, and since those are required courses this might hinder you from getting in. Now I am not an adviser and I am just relating everything I know about transferring into Mays to your situation so their may be some differences on how each college admits students, I would I highly recommend talking to your local transfer adviser or calling admissions at TAMU to see what they tell you. I hope everything works out in your favor and we all can become Aggies, Good Luck and keep us updated!
