@nakroth What about the requirements ? Calc-1, Calc-2, Physics -1 and Physics-2 ?
@KrisP1 I have done with Calc1,2 and Phys1. I am taking Phys2 this spring.
woke up with 6 tab in the howdy : home, applicant, my record, my finances, student life, my howdy.
Does that mean I was accepted ?
Woke up to 6 tabs today!!!
Applied 2/21 Biomedical Science 1st choice but got accepted to Biochemistry 2nd choice
GPA 3.87 with 31 creds!!
I’m so happy
6 tabs. Computer Engineering
@hookemorgigem I’m curious since you applied as a BIMS major and considering the amount of required coursework required that how u got them all in 31 hours? Because I actually applied as a chem major since I would have all the courses done by the end of this semester otherwise I would have gone BIMS
I didn’t lol thats why i got rejected from BIMS after a week of being in review… ?
got 6 tabs yesterday morning and the acceptance letter this noon. I’m so happy !
@KrisP1 Did you get into the electrical engineering or computer science track? For Computer Engineering.
Love SPI Sea Turtle Rescue. Have been visiting for years. How it has grown!
I hate to throw shade at a university I desperately wanted to attend and got accepted for, but I want to pass a warning to future applicants. My stats are 3.81 GPA, A’s in all recommended and required course work, Phi Theta Kappa, first gen student… the list goes on. After getting the good news of being accepted I received my financial aid package and received NOTHING. I am really upset about this and have already called to appeal the package, but was informed that “TAMU does not do an appeal process…It is extremely difficult to receive a scholarship at TAMU… You are not the only one in this situation… TAMU relies on donors to give them money in order to give out scholarships.” TAMU asked that I take out over $80,000 (after interest) in private loans to pay for the next 2 years of my education. I usually wouldn’t be to upset about this kind of thing: College is expensive.
TAMU however I feel has lied to future applicants stating on their website…
“Given that Texas A&M is able to offer over $810 million in financial assistance each year, many students’ out-of-pocket costs are much lower than the published cost of attendance. In fact, last year on average, a student with a family income under $40,000 had an out-of-pocket cost of approximately $8,485, and a student with a family income between $40,000 and $80,000 had an out-of-pocket cost of approximately $10,942. Applying for financial assistance may provide the additional resources necessary to cover out-of-pocket costs.”
I asked about this quote they put on their website and was informed that they did not know it was there and that it was not accurate in the least. I asked about the boasting of the $801 Million in scholarships and was told that "TAMU had an undergrad size of 69,000, and that they could not meet the financial need of every student. I informed her that 801M/70k means every student would get $11K. Was told that’s not how that works. With an EFC of 9053 TAMU left me with $41,288 of need unmet. I got upset and asked if TAMU only allowed wealthy families to attend and was met with awkward silence and apologies. I wish TAMU had been more open about the cost of attendance.
@wonderlust1 I feel your pain. That being said, when you say, “I wish TAMU had been more open about the cost of attendance”-tuition price isn’t hidden. Website doesn’t guarantee financial aid or scholarships to every student.
I’m not sure I see your reasoning about ‘only allowing wealthy families to attend’. TAMU is a state school, meaning it is far more reasonable that most private schools. TAMU (and all state schools) can’t accept/deny a student based on their financial status-that’s illegal. We know MANY families who have children at A&M currently, and I would call very few of them ‘wealthy’.
College is expensive. Period. Even state schools.
It would be great if A&M (and all schools) divided up their scholarship money evenly and distributed that way…but that isn’t going to happen.
Perhaps the blurb on the TAMU website could be misleading, but nowhere does it say ‘every’ student will receive financial aid. No one lied.
Again, I do feel your pain & frustration. I will have 2 students in college next year, it’ll be costly for sure! But they’re my kids, and it is my responsibility to pay for their education. It is not the responsibility of the state, nor anyone else’s.
Hopefully you can get some good loans, or find a school who will offer you some $$-you’ve worked hard clearly! A&M is a great school, but there are other equally great schools in our state. Don’t give up, you’ve worked too hard to get where you are!
@wonderlust1 Same here, I was only offered loans, the only reason I am able to attend was because I was frugal with my money and saved up 30k through working 50 hours a week while at community college, I also applied for outside scholarships. I understand your point exactly I have a EFC of 6324 and, I was hoping for some financial aid but was not offered any, but best of luck to you to wherever you choose to go! Just keep on pushing hard for a little bit more and it will pay off exponentially, if you need to take out loans don’t worry, you will be able to pay them off eventually.
Does anyone know how competitive it is for an on campus change of major into Mays business school? I have taken Math 141, 142, Econ 202, and ACCT 229 with a 3.5 GPA in those courses.
Good luck on finals guys! Anyone who got deferred please keep us updated with that process!
@rachiefj How many total hours do you have and what is your cumulative GPA? 3.5 is bare minimum in those courses to be eligible for change of major. They report they only accept 100 change of majors and 100 transfers per year. Not sure how strict they follow that, BUT I know many students with well above a 3.5 who have been denied even after an appeal. One of those students has even had his own business since age 12 and has expanded his business into other markets and it has grown significantly. His GPA was above a 3.7 (not sure what it was for those core classes you mentioned). We were shocked and that’s the first time or only time we’ve heard of denials of really strong students.
@wonderlust1 Cost of tuition/fees/books is around $12k a year for in state. Plus room and board which you would pay any where. Not sure why would need $80k for 2 years of school.
@AggieMomhelp my cumulative GPA is a 3.8 with honors classes and 43 hours. Yeah I’ve heard it’s pretty tough to transfer in, just hoping for the best! If not, I will most likely stay in agribusiness and see where God leads me from there. Thanks for your response!
Great job @rachiefj. If you’re interested in finance then maybe look at MS in Finance. You can apply and start as undergrad. Great program if that’s your interest.
