I’m from Colorado, so close(ish), but it’s no Oklahoma. In addition to prairie, we also have mountains and trees and stuff :)

cool…yeah, colorado has those mountain things…we are lucky to have hills in Oklahoma…which tasp are you going to?

st louis, yay

hey, has anyone been contacted by their counselourperson yet?

I sent an email to Ellen Baer at Cornell and she said that factota letters would be sent out on Monday.

Hello, I got into the U of M TASP. I see the factota letters are coming on Monday… but anyway, does anyone know if there’s, like, a bus going from the airport (what would it be, Detroit?) or something like that? Or where we are going to live?

My mom is fantasizing that we’re going to live in the TASP house at the college, which would be pretty sweet.

EDIT: Also, I’ll wager someone going to U of M $10 that getting your AP scores while at nerd camp is gonna be weird.

I think that there is a shuttle from Detroit to the campus and that we will be living either at the Telluride House or at a rented sorority house (where they lived last year).

This isn’t exactly related to TASP, but someone here probably knows: Do you apply for the Telluride Houses at Cornell or Michigan while applying to those colleges, and do you hear back at the same time you hear from the regular program?

The TASS’ers usually get the Telluride House because they have two programs at UMich each year.

Ah.

So who had a super-intimidating interview? I had to talk with a Nietzsche-ite who went to Deep Springs and worked for Goldman Sachs, along with two other people. Safe to say it wasn’t fun, and I fear that might be part of why I got into my second-choice and not my first.

EDIT: Sorry for all the questions, I’ve been denying to find a place where I could talk to other TASPers…

^ I had a pretty intimidating interview, but my interviewers were pretty nice… caught me off-guard a bit, though.

Are you on AIM?

My interviewer was actually Shannon Saksewski, the Michigan director, so needless to say I was pretty much terrified about meeting her. But she was really nice during the interview, and we had this cool discussion about Ayn Rand and weak ontology.

I got into the UT-Austin TASP (maybe she didn’t want me at Michigan? shrug, no matter, I actually got INTO a TASP which is a lot more than I was expecting!).

dragonfield1221…im a UT TASPer too

my guy was called Jay, from the great city of Philly… he was very liberal-minded and I was too…but somehow we still ended up half-yelling at each other during the interview (it was outside next to starbucks, and yes, people stared)

Yelling? That’s pretty bad. With mine, we just got into a long, endless side argument about whether or not doubt and reason could lead to faith. Luckily the guy was a little windy, and after that I got a break from speaking while he told me his theory about what causes terrorism. (Middle class unemployment and a lack of ego fulfillment, by the way.)

Wow…my interview was tough, but I don’t think we talked about ontology or anything abstract.

She was a lawyer who defended migrant farmers. The Senate was debating that immigration bill. On of my essays was tangetically related to immigration.

Guess what we talked about for half the interview?

oh, the yelling wasn’t that bad…i was pretty incensed at him for days afterwards, though

i sent him an email saying i got in, and that response was really nice (=

ryanOG88, what did you talk about? i hope this isnt a groaner

my interviewer was far less interesting than all of yours’. we talked a little about utilitarian ethics and some about government morals, but besides that, she just asked a lot of little questions about my essays. i felt like she was pretty detached from the whole thing…very odd.

Bubblytracee:

…immigration

hey vegangirl mine’s gookiemonster89. it’ll be awesome.
i talked about women’s rights & fem.

foucault…and some agamben
