TCU Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

It will not be for a while.

FWIW, my daughter got accepted to a different college and her friend was deferred. Her friend switched over to ED2 and got in a month later. If it’s her first choice, it’s a good idea.

My understanding is that TCU defers 90-95% of its EA nursing major applicants. They want to see their whole pool before making decisions. Many deferred applicants are offered admission later in the spring.

While on campus at TCU, nearly every one of the current nursing students my high schooler spoke with were deferred before being offered admission. Hope that offers some encouragement!

If your son is awarded an ROTC scholarship, the award letter will likely give him the option of choosing between his top 3 schools listed in his scholarship portal. Is he applying for Army and/or AF ROTC scholarships? Has he contacted the ROO for either at TCU? Starting to build a relationship with the ROTC unit could maybe help as they can put in a good word with Admissions if they choose. Letting his admissions counselor know he has applied for the ROTC scholarship may be helpful, too. Definitely contact his admission counselor immediately if he is award the ROTC scholarship.

D24 Deferred, 31 ACT, 4.0 weighted. IL state scholar. Any insight into besides Sem 1 grades being sent, anything additional to send to Admissions for consideration? Add anything under the comments section? TCU one of her top choices, so disappointed it’s not the outcome she was hoping for

What was unweighted? I think TCU really focuses on that and then puts credit for rigor but different than normal grading at schools.
Move to ED2 is best way to potentially increase odds.

Weighted GPA: 91.44% (3.999/4.000) Unweighted GPA: 90.80% (3.938/4.000)

Daugther accepted. OOS (CA). Test optional. 3.93 UW, 4.3 weighted. lots of extracurriculars. 850+ hours volunteer work. Faculty scholarship. Sociology. She is the only person at her school so far (that she has heard) that was not deferred. College advisor did tell us that tons of kids were deferred this year. I hope that only helps your kiddos feel better :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
Best of luck to everyone.

What does OOS mean?

Son accepted- we are from IL. This could be our 2nd son at TCU (older one is a Jr in Neeley), waiting on UTK as well. 3.97 UW/ 4.4 W, 6 AP, All honors for core, Captain of 2 sports teams, NHS, and some other leadership. Deans Scholarship. Dietetics major.

Out of State

NJ Catholic HS son accepted yesterday with 24K -year scholarship. 33 ACT. 4.0 GPA. So thrilled. Job. Lots of athletics and community service. Also got accepted to Rice same day so son will go to Rice. It was his ED and is better fit for him. Daughter is a sophomore at TCU. We are all beyond in love with TCU. It is a wonderful school with amazing alumni and student body. Congratulations to those who got yeses yesterday. To those who did not, keep trying it is worth it. If it doesn’t work out, your best match is waiting for you. I’m a Longhorn but can tell you, UT was the place for me but TCU is a special place and it really is the best place for my daughter. The kids at TCU are very happy, smart, kind, and just generally great people!

Yes on all accounts. He is Army ROTC applicant. His older brother was a 4 year winner and is now a Sophomore at University of San Diego. We did let admissions and his ROO know that currently TCU is top of his priority of 7 schools and only one he is not accepted at yet. His older brother got his ROTC award to his Top 3 as you mentioned so not crucial to get a decision out of TCU. In reality he can transfer that AROTC scholarship if he changes his mind later in the spring. As a dad I like to have this all wrapped up sooner rather than later…lol

Wow! I’m a CA based Longhorn. Congrats on Rice for your son!!!

My D is a Junior at an Ivy and my S was accepted EA to TCU Neeley this week. He got the Faculty Scholarship ($24k/yr) and is so excited to go to TCU. He is waiting on a few more schools (SMU and USC (So Cal not Carolina) before making his final decision but loves TCU and has had the best times when visiting.

We are from an area in Nor Cal that is sending loads of kids to TCU.

I know someone who switched to ED2 after being WL. Then got in. That should help her chances. Reach out to your tcu counselor and admissions director with email of strong interest and outline new info that highlights her fall accomplishments.

1st child going to college and first EA decision…super exciting time but trying to understand it all. How do we know if we are in the running for chancellor’s scholarship and honors college? We were notified of Deans scholarship with the acceptance. No mention of honors or CS. Did anyone else hear about those ?

Thanks. It’s a hard thing to remove the emotion from it, and I feel like we have to beg and plead to get in now, and my daughter has great stats. I’ll have to remove the emotion from it and treat it like a game. It’s like chasing the school that could care less if you attend or not.

TCU’s website says a decision about Honors will be sent by the end of January and Chancellor’s invites will come out by January 20th.
