Tell me somethin' good . . .

Today we sold MIL’s house and I think we sold my old car, pending an inspection. Friend’s son got out of the hospital after 5 days of a very bad UTI. Yesterday we found out we’re expecting a 3rd grandchild. Life can be good, even in the middle of a pandemic.

Congrats to @atomom, @oldfort, and @toledo.

We put down a deposit on a little to-be-named-later floof!! I’m hoping he/she will come home around the holidays (that would almost be too perfect), but more likely Easter time frame. This will be our first puppy and Little S simply cannot contain himself!! He has wanted a dog for approximately forever.

I’m also going to ge a grandmother. I was shocked because my daughter and her husband have been married for 11 years and I figured they’d just decided against kids. Baby is due in December.

Does anyone remember the poster @RADRailMom, who’s son fell out of a lofted bed in his frat house and had a brain injury (skull fracture and stroke)? Well, happy to report that 7 years later, he just graduated from the flagship tech university! Congratulations???

That is such good news! What an accomplishment after what he went through.

Thank you so much! Yes, there’s is zero quit in this young man. He went back to Georgia Tech in fall of 2016 and has gone to school year-round for 4 years to get his Mechanical Engineering degree. Not bad for a kid who almost died and was in a coma for 2-1/2 months. We are thrilled for him.

Congrats!! @RADRailMom ! And the media attention is well deserved!

@RADRailMom Bravo! Some much needed inspiration!!

We had a very nice experience with the local police. We called them because a driver had his passenger mirror strike and knock off our driver’s side mirror and keep driving. (D jumped out of the car and chased after the car and found it in a few hundred feet with the driver.) We wanted them to write an accident report so we’d be able to have it replaced.

First one car came and he called for back up so eventually we had 4 cars. They were all very nice and helpful and most wore their masks properly.

The next day, the wife of the driver came over to apologize and we all had a nice socially distanced chat. We were glad the driver has support and hope he gets over this rough patch. We told her we have no animosity toward him and he seems like a very nice guy.

Yay for nice, professional police officers who handled the situation nicely and professionally.

Enjoying watching the spaceX return to earth with Bob and Doug!

Saw D last night & she now has a tiny baby bump. It’s a girl, and she’ll arrive in January. So exciting!

I just sent that to my rabbi!

Monday afternoon we were out on the water enjoying the nice weather when three playful porpoises happened by and gave us a show, surfacing while circling around us. Very social animals.

My 22-year-old daughter just graduated from college. Like so many other kids, her life has been turned upside down. She’s been at home since March. She supposedly has a new job, photographing newborns at the hospital, but due to COVID the company can’t get in yet. She really expected to be working by now!

She worked a few hours a week in February and March at Children’s Place in her college town. Her manager let her go shortly before D came home. The woman told her she should apply for unemployment benefits. D & I didn’t really think she would get anything, since she didn’t earn that much, but I told her she should try.

She got quite a few notices from the Maine Department of Labor. They were contradictory. You will get something. You aren’t eligible. Back and forth. The final notice said she would get $172/week. She called them (sat on hold for 30 minutes) and they told her she needed to enter some info online. So she did, at my urging.

The. Next. Day. a deposit of $9,264 showed up in her checking account!!! 12 weeks - $172/week plus $600/week due to the pandemic. That’s way more than she made all of 2019 in part-time retail work. We’re all in shock! I’m so happy for her.

I warned her she’ll have to pay taxes on this. She said that’s OK with her! It will be interesting to see if she gets any notice explaining her tax liability. What do you do if you’re a kid with nobody to tell you this kind of thing??

DS just took the Physical Therapist licensing exam two weeks ago and results came out today: he passed! (Not that I had any doubts about it - still it’s a nerve-racking wait). The job market is awful right now, but he has his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and is now licensed, so it is all good!

Congrats to @MaineLonghorn and @anxiousmom !

My D is finally home for 10 days. I haven’t seen her in three months. It’s so nice to have her back for a little bit!!!

More good news - my son graduated from the American University of Beirut in December and finally got his diploma today. He graduated with distinction! AUB is a tough school, so I’m proud of him. Even more proud that his real reason for going to Lebanon was to help Syrian refugees. A former student of my dad from Lebanon called Dad yesterday and said that Cory needs to get out of the country NOW. Yeah, that’s not happening as long as his girlfriend is still in school…
