Celebrated my friend’s dad’s 99th birthday yesterday!
Friend has been through a LOT of stuff and still struggling but we always chat and she said she was taking her dad out to a restaurant the next day for his birthday. Invited us to come but we’re two hours away and doubt she thought for even a second we’d say yes. I got off the phone and my husband says “Let’s go!”. He hasn’t even met my friend. He’s my hero!
It was delightful! Friend says her dad can’t stop talking about the fun he had. Worth every minute in the car.

One of my daughters mentioned yesterday that she is paying out of her own pocket the costs of a medical treatment for a few of her most desperate and impoverished patients.

Ds2 had a meeting yesterday about a potential publishing deal, which is his dream. Fingers crossed, though these things are generally months in the making.

Had lunch with a friend today and the minute the waiter came over to bring our menus and ask our beverage choice, it was clear he was on the spectrum. Very sweet man who then gave us every minuscule teeny weeny detail about what was in today’s specials, handled well my friend’s question about the brand of ginger ale they serve and managed our funny request for extra pickles (they serve half sour- our favorite!) I had to get to a Dr appt so went to find the waiter to get our take-home containers and the bill. The manager clearly came over to be of assistance with the waiter if needed. When the waiter left to get the to-go containers, I told the manager that I am a psychologist and thanked him profusely for hiring this gentleman and providing him a job. He thanked me in return, and told me the waiter has been with them for …. Wait for it…. 16 years! What a lovely win-win. And my friend and I each tipped him very generously.

After a period of really losing faith in the goodness of others, I have had two small interactions where people provided a resource to me that I mentioned in casual conversation. This was on Sunday and Tuesday. Can it be a trend?

I went to the big community garden I help run, and one of the volunteers (and we only have 4) had come and not only started weeding, but had repaired the compost system that came apart over the winter!!

An elderly neighbor who is out of cash and desperately needed to sell quickly … and YAY - very quickly got a buyer. It had to be sold as-is / priced low… cash buyer only (would not pass mortgage inspection). She can rent-back for 2months while finding housing - yay. The best part (for selfish me, who helps this neighbor) is that the contract allows her to leave anything behind. Having just helped empty a 1br place for a deceased relative, this is BIG.

After months and months of sending applications for summer internships out, seemingly into the void…D24 finally got a response and an invitation to interview for two opps at the same company. Just the first step, but it counts as something good in my book!

That is a really really big deal - much like the 4 min mile when it was broken. I remember lots of discussions years back when the record was 2:04 and they didn’t it would ever be possible. I feel sorry for the 2nd place guy. He also broke it and nobody will hardly care!

Yesterday while waiting for Covid boosters I met a man whose right foot was amputated as a baby. We had a nice discussion about prosthetics, including how his father quit his job and started a business building prosthetic legs.
He told me that by growing up without a foot from the time he could remember, he never went through the pain of the loss.
His positive attitude and engaging personality brought me joy.
