Tesla 3

If we get one, it will be blue. To match the older sibling, the X.

500,000 Times $1000…is a LOT of money Mr. Musk has in his accounts just waiting. A LOT.

I know that $1000 goes towards the car purchase or is fully refundable…but in the meantime, it’s earning interest…and that is a LOT of money earning interest.

More like avoiding paying interest (at junk bond rates due to their junk bond credit rating) that they would otherwise have had to do to borrow to finance the up front costs of starting high volume production.

Accidentally posted in the wrong thread that if I hadn’t gotten the red I’d have gotten the dark grey.
Am currently in a rental car. The cheapest we could get ($30/day) was a midsize SUV but long story short, they gave us an Infiniti QX30 crossover. Nice car.

The Midnight Silver Metallic (aka dark grey) is my wife’s choice and will be our second if we pull the trigger. (I originally made two reservations.)

Looks like a software update delivered to Consumer Reports’ test car improved the braking to class-competitive (60-0mph in 133 feet now, versus 152 feet before):

They also noticed some changes in the touch screen controls after the update.

Has anyone had issues with multiple Bluetooth items connecting to the phone when in the car? I have the I Watch, the Bluetooth Earbuds and now the car. All connect to the phone. Will this be an issue?

yes, the phone-thingy can be an issue. just yesterday, I was washing and waxing the M3 and opened-closed the doors numerous times, vacuuming, cleaning windows, etc… My phone was close by and I had no issues, until…when I was done and wanted to get into the car to move it back into the garage: Please place your card at the pillar (to unlock).

Sometimes its the phone which goes into Power Saving mode and closes apps. Other times, the car goes into a deep sleep and you have to wake it manually. (check the app on your phone and it will wake the car to refresh.) The other work around is to put your phone on Airplane mode for a minute, which will then disable all bluetooth apps, and then put the phone back on regular mode (turning your bluetooth apps back on.)

Just remember to carry your card key on your person at all times.

Sounds like elon has finally thrown in the towel and will be developing a fob or something similar. but given Elon Standard Time, that could be 2020.

You are a wealth of knowledge, @bluebayou. Thanks!

On Monday, Tesla sent an email to all owners saying that the app was being updated, and there could be some problems with using it to control the car. Tesla recommended using the key fob thingy or some card (we have the former).

^^yeah, but no fobs for the M3. Just a credit-card-sized key card.]]

I’d rather have a card. The double click features on the “fob” are cutesy but not that useful. Plus, it is a pita to haul in a pocket. I have a tendency to run my phone’s battery dry, so no to phone app only.

Well, got the plates and put on the front plate holder ourselves (state requires it). We did not realize it was not on and they are a 4 hour drive from here, After much contemplation and a self made pendulum H got it on. Now we are planning a cross country trip this summer to visit D1. Got the superchargers mapped out and the hotel we are staying in on the way up and back has superchargers, too. The car is so quiet on the road it makes the sound system sound great.

@rockymtnhigh2 - Did you use The Law? It was expensive for the X, but well worth it. Install was a breeze.

No, there was a plate attachment in the trunk that came with the 3. We were sure that H had to drill 2 holes but it ended up to only have a black holder that taped on, and the holes with screws were to hold the plate on to the holder. We did get a silver thing that goes around the plate that says ‘Tesla 3’ just like the back plate one has. Looks really nice.

Dang. They don’t make them for the X, so had to buy what the Teslaheads recommended. Well, we got some freebies too - $5k off the price (demo) and a free supercharger.

Have fun driving and report back!

We have the S and didn’t put on the front plate (required but often ignored in our state) or the HOV stickers. Both have been sitting in the glove box for over 4 years. Calculated risk… hopefully a fixit ticket if we get called out on it. So far no problem.

Ticket is close to $300 here… the Law was $130. Mr. travels down 405 every morning, and every other morning there’s a cop sitting on the side, looking for speeders. So the choice was easy. The Law it was.

Red Tesla 3 and our older age, not good for lack of plates, then tickets or increased insurance. Several years ago D2 was driving H’s older red car MR2 for one day to school and was stopped and ticketed for going 5 over. D2 was driving her red jeep and was stopped for a license plate light burnt out, warning, not even required. Seriously now that I think about it red has gotten us in trouble. Both times of the D’s, I think it was because the police thought they were young guys driving. They were so bad about giving young guys tickets in the small town, that one of D2’s friends starting driving slow and got a ticket going too slow!

Well, charger is now installed but still waiting for word on the car…
