Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

@ctang87789105 everyone should submit their application in August, regardless of major.
It NEVER pays to wait…at A&M.

Yes, that’s how I informed her!

All majors except Engineering are first come basis. The major they want isn’t as sought after for auto admits. So the chances of holistic applicants getting in are higher. Yay.

Definitley try to get the SAT up but don’t wait to apply.

Thank you for the information, definitely will have her apply early!

Woke up to all green checks!! :tada:

Why does Admissions say (when I called in) that all colleges at TAMU are holistic? Engineering has an entire page dedicated to holistic review on their site, but no other college has that. So what you’re saying makes sense and that’s what I’d always thought. Just wondering why Admissions would say all colleges are holistic? @FriscoDad

Green checks here too, woohoo!!

I myself haven’t heard or seen anything from admissions saying all colleges were holistic. I have seen others in social media group say that (especially about Mays) which confuses people. We have heard the consistent message of once business is full it’s full so to apply early!

Mine just checked Howdy and there are 7 tabs already!! App still says “in review” and know it will take some time to be officially “admitted” but wondering how long that part usually takes?

Hi Christi,

One more question. If her SAT is 1290 and August did not improve, is it more advantage to go test optional? Applying for Human Resources major.

It’s a solid score and won’t hurt her. Just may not push her into an early round of acceptance.

I have my third child now applying to A&M. With the other two, there was a question as to whether you wanted the school to consider test scores. We did not see that on Common App this time, and instead, it said that the school would not get the test scores. We are having the test scores sent to the school, but is there some way that we are supposed to tell them that we want them considered? My concern is that his application is in review, but the test scores are not there yet, so how do they know to hold review until they get them? Thanks.

If I recall correctly, when I was looking over D29’s shoulder as she was filling out the Common App, the questions about SAT were about entering the highest Math score and the highest Reading/Writing score (and the test dates for each). I don’t recall it asking for the highest scores in one sitting.

And, as you know, TAMU doesn’t superscore, so that led me to believe that those two pieces of information from Common App wouldn’t be helpful to them.

That’s how I interpret them saying TAMU won’t get those scores from Common App.

TAMU will get the SAT scores when you send it directly from College Board.

(I don’t recall it being this confusing when D26 used Apply Texas.)

Thank you. That makes sense. I am still not sure though what he should do, if anything, about his application being in review with no test scores yet submitted. I wish there was a way to tell them - don’t review this until the test scores come!

From the insight provided by @FriscoDad in answering a question of mine, they said holistic applicants will get two reviews if applying early…with decision coming between Jan and Mar.

I hear that some students get accepted without a test score since TAMU is test optional? So if the rest of your student’s application is fantastic, then perhaps the test isn’t needed?

Based on the second review cycle for holistic reviews (assuming that info is accurate for this cycle) my best guess is that if they review your student’s application without their test score and they determine they’re on “the bubble” then there’s a chance that after they’ve admitted all their auto-admits and top holistic applicants, they’ll come back around to fill remaining slots and re-review everyone that is on the cusp.

If an applicant doesn’t have whatever criteria they are looking for holistically without a test score, I doubt (but that’s just my thought) that a single test score would be the data point that would have put a student in the accept stack for early applicants. They still may keep them in pending anyway until the “second review”.

Take all that with a grain of salt since this is all brand new to me too!! haha
Call it wishful thinking since my student has a great holistic profile and a “solid” SAT score.

I don’t know the answer either but I would have him ask that question in the AIS portal. When I called about another issue when we first submitted the common app, I was told that asking questions through the portal gets the info directly to the “document analysts”

And let us know what you find out, because I have been curious to know how that all works too with evaluating info that comes in after the app. Mine took the ACT and the scores got there much faster than anticipated.

My son got all his checkmarks today after sending in his SRAR Friday evening!

His ranking says 1st quarter.

I am really surprised how long it’s taking for SAT scores to arrive. I guess you could have paid to rush but it used to be nearly automatic.
