@Jessica_R , hard to find a lot of info on Viz, but here are two cases from the Class of 2026 admissions cycle:
S26 (Non-Top 10%) applied 8/13/21, median SAT, top 13%, relevant experience (animation, game design, comp sci classes), Eagle Scout, marching band, not accepted to Viz.
D26 (Top 10%) applied 9/2/21, median SAT, admitted to Viz. (FYI, she’s an excellent resource on Viz questions.)
Thanks so much for the advice - really appreciate it! Will definitely have my son submit resume highlighting his Visualization experience.
For clarification… If under holistic review, will admissions wait to see whether applicants can make it into their first choice major if they get reviewed twice (when applying early)? Or will they make a determination if they are not at the level they’re looking for for first choice but good for second choice, they’ll just be placed in second choice?
Our son is in engineering honors, and he is beginning his sophomore year. It is not like Business Honors as BH is a degree in-and-of-itself, and engineering honors is not.
The number 1 perk so far is that engineering honors allows for early registration, so it is easier to get the desired profs and class times. Engineering honors students get special access to engineering career fair, but that has not been of benefit yet in our son’s tenure.
There is also an engineering honors living and learning community, and our son did participate in this last year. It was fine but he did not take advantage of most of the advertised opportunities.
Regarding what honors classes he took last year - he took both of the engineering labs honors. This fall he is registered in an honors section of one of his mechanical engineering classes. Part of his registration preparation is to scour the syllabus of any honors class he’s thinking about taking to see what, if any, extra work might be required, so he can decide if he’s interested in that or not.
Finally, I think most students don’t stay with engineering honors all the way through their undergraduate degree. They seem to use it while the perks outweigh the requirements, and then they let it go.
Just curious, is the “gets 7 tabs” an automated process? Or is there some human review going on? I’m wondering if it’s worth checking over the weekend, or we should wait until Monday when admissions folks may be back in the office.
This might be a very silly question… but the expanded resume should include what was already listed in the application or is it only things that could not fit?
Yep, still waiting here but not expecting anything with it being the weekend.Mine didn’t link hers until Friday afternoon so thinking Monday or Tuesday would be the very earliest. Is that your last item left in red? It is for us!
For holistic, they will usually wait to tally all and select the best applicants. Only very few with exceptional scores receive admission before winter break.
Will TAMU pull the letters of recommendation from the Common App? The A&M website says to snail mail or upload via AIS but the Common App sends links to those you invite. We’re so confused!
Hi All,
This group has been so resourceful for me and my son last year, so I’m back again this year to help my friends’ kids get into their dream school.
My question is, how competitive is Human Resource Development under college of education? Her daughter is top 12%, SAT 1290 (will attempt again on August 24). She has great EC, president of 1 club and officers in 2 other clubs, Girl scouts and in Varsity cross country.
Also, is this major first come first serve, should she turn in her application in August?
