Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

the DC gpa means “both dual credit and AP” right? Then he is around 4.4 or 4.45.

Is he borderline to Mays?

His second major choice is statistics. Any chance? If he can’t make it to Mays, he likes stats as well. I just heard that as for “orange school”, non-autos don’t even get chance admitted to second major choice if not accepted to first.

What is his rank, as in-is he closer to 11-13% or more like 20-24%. That will determine a lot.
SAT is solid, and will definitely help.

Statistics is a great major, but I believe it’s pretty small.

Duel credit… an A is 4 points. B 3 points. C 2 etc. it is completely different than what high school gpa is factored as. These are college courses so that grade will be on the Tamu transcript as a transfer grade. It’ll show 2 letters. The first one is T. The second is the letter grade. So TA for an A. TB for a B etc.

As for AP, they will not appear as letter grade transfer once accepted.

So original question reworded… does he have all As in Dual credit?

Rank is 20%, pretty weak since high school is competitive and good famed.

Actually i wonder how TAMU knows about rank because just quartile rank will be given by school on transcript (we are assigned as first quartile in AIS)

he just took one Dual credit only for two semesters, one A and one B
Then all others are AP courses or pre-AP courses of his high school. AP courses got As more than Bs.
I thought college would like students having more AP courses than Dual Credits…because AP definitely is harder than dual credit.

how small is Statistics? This is what we are worried about too…

No idea the size of Statistics, @FriscoDad is the guru for applied/admitted. He will know.

You are correct, Mays does prefer AP over DC.

Not saying they don’t prefer AP over DC just asked about the college gpa associated with DC.

My daughter went to OSU first year and her DC gpa actually went into her OSU gpa. Tamu doesn’t factor them in but they’re on transcript. AP is rigorous but Mays doesn’t even look at applications so only admission office uses that knowledge for admitting student to Tamu (not a major).

In what regard? Honors… that’s the only way they’d have an interest.

Statistics have fewer than 100 final enrollment. TAMU may admit 120 to 180.

Admission office have general admission criteria for all students, so a less popular major doesn’t make it “easier” to get in. A less popular major may get filled up later than hot majors but that’s totally different.

Your student has high score, along with first quarter rank should have no issue for full admission.

I know there’s always chatter that Mays students who take AP Stats vs those who take regular Stats or DC Stats, do MUCh better when taking upper level Stats at A&M.

The students now entering with ‘associates degrees’ are being thrown into upper level classes way sooner, because DC auto applies, and many struggle. Some of the ‘associates degrees’ have students taking the eqv of Acct 229. Parents insist their kid is ready for Acct 327 right off the bat. Never ends well.
And Acct & Finance degrees require Acct 229 be taken AT A&M, so unless student retakes the class, they’re knocked out of 2 majors.
A lot of these students taking DC are not getting the rigor that AP offers…not all, but many.

Business Honors does prefer AP over DC, due to rigor. But like you said, Admissions doesn’t weigh either differently-so my statement wasn’t :100: accurate. My bad.
The DC can become a problem once student is in Mays-not counting towards their admission (unless they have not done well). AP just allows so much more ‘wiggle room’.

But he put stats as second major choice, Mays (MIS) as first major choice…so is he borderline to Mays? But maybe good enough for statistics?

All Mays students enter as BUAD, and don’t declare their major until at least sophomore year.
Every student is ‘borderline’/holistic, if not auto admit.

So is he borderline to Mays, he has 32 college credits through mostly AP and just one Dual credit in high school. He got more As than Bs for these advanced classes

Thanks. I got to reword my question, is it low chance for him to be admitted to Mays? And if chance would be higher for his second choice major Statistics?

But as holistic, we would not hear till January earliest right?

D29 (auto admit) has been staring at the last red X in AIS for a long time – official transcript.

She submitted the official transcript request to her high school on 8/5, the earliest the school was accepting transcript requests. A week later (8/12 Mon), with no change, she reminded her school counselor. On 8/15 (Thu), the counselor finally sent it. On 8/16 (Fri), her SchoolLinks/College Application Manager showed that the “college downloaded” it. Before she saw that reply, she also asked A&M Admissions via Communication in AIS about the transcript processing status, and the response included:

The fastest way to provide a high school transcript is to upload it through your AIS portal. If you have a copy of your transcript or rank letter used to fill out your Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR), please upload it through AIS by selecting the “My Document” drop down menu at the top of your page. Please select “Download Documents” and follow the instructions provided.

Today, still a red X.

We’ve always understood that an “official transcript” was always from the high school directly to the college (without the student touching it). If the student touched it (i.e. sent the transcript file herself), then wouldn’t that make it “unofficial” due to the potential of tampering? And in the Upload Documents section in AIS, I believe it clearly stated to not upload unofficial transcripts.

Isn’t the Admissions reply and AIS portal information contradicting each other?

We have a transcript PDF (unofficial) that we’ll gladly upload, but we’re puzzled by the contradictory information. (I don’t remember it being an issue with D26’s application.) Since we’re technically only 1 business day after the “college downloaded transcript” note, should we just wait a couple more days? Or should we go ahead and upload it ourselves (since the Admissions person said to do it)? I also see that this “Undergraduate Document Submission” page says you can upload it.

I’m leaning towards her uploading it, but my D is a strict rule follower and the “do not upload unofficial transcript” statement on the Upload Documents page is driving her crazy.

Did some of you go the “upload unofficial transcript PDF” route?

Only Admissions can give you the answer.
SAT is solid, will definitely work in his favor.
A lot will depend on how many auto admit apply for Mays-when it’s full, it is full, no Wait List.
You could hear anywhere from October - January.

I thought there will be around 25%( more or less) leaving for holistics for Mays right? If as u said above, it means auto can be 100% of the class???

No one can say for certain. There are always holistic admits every year-but they may have higher stats or rank, or an incredible resume & leadership.
Like I said, SAT will :100: help your son (it isn’t super scored, correct?).

No it isn’t, though I hope they can accept superstore he got 1500 sigh…
