TAMU doesn’t accept superstore. 1460 is solid!
Sorry big finger haha superscore*
If it says that the college downloaded it then I would wait a few business days for that red X to go green check. That message says that multiple transcripts may slow down the decision so I would be hesitant to upload another especially if it looks like TAMU might have downloaded it already. I thought the same thing bout official transcript coming strait from the school but during this process I learned that as long as it says official on the transcript itself, TAMU will accept it as official when uploaded into AIS. My guess is that you checked the AIS before you got this message and saw a green check already.
@SYTexas Tamu knows rank because it is an entry on SRAR, at least it was many years ago.
As others have mentioned, the hard part is getting admitted to the university. All holistic applicants are competing against one another for limited spots. Once admissions approves an applicant, they are put into their major (or reviewed for general engineering), unless their major is full (or they dont pass engineering review), then second choice major. Your student will not be evaluated based on being a good Mays student, Its an overall evaluation.
I do believe that passion towards ones intended major plays a huge part in a favorable admission possibility. With tamu being so crowded, I believe they are looking for kids that have a passion towards their major, will hit the ground running and NOT change major, and graduate asap, taking only classes required for graduation. tamu has to put so many resources into internal transfers
AP and IB require official college board scores in order to claim credits and the process is optional (student has a choice). Even with scores, most students won’t claim away all credits.
Dual credits have no choice but to transfer over.
Both AP/IB credits and Dual Credits won’t count towards TAMU GPA. AP/IB are preferrable because of the vigor, plus students have the choice to boost TAMU GPA.
My daughter woke up to 7 tabs Saturday and with her class rank moved to top 10%.
Homeschooled. 1470 SAT. 4.0
Applied 8/3.
Downloaded 8/8
Wanted to share bc I’ve been lurking wondering what the cutoff would be this year and since this is relatively new.
No official ‘admission’ yet but a huge relief that she qualifies for 10% so we don’t have to wait for holistic.
We spent a lot of time trying to figure out transcripts too and learned that if you are able to get a copy of an official transcript yourself then yes you can upload it into AIS. The challenge is whether your school will release an actual official one to you or only student/unofficial copies. We are only able to get/order one that is not official so had to go through the school to send official ones directly.
If you know for sure your school has already sent an official one then I’d wait. If it helps to know that even those of us with students with everything checked green and 7 tabs are still not officially admitted and likely won’t be until mid September (maybe longer) so everyone is in a holding pattern! But I totally get wanting to upload it yourself as I’m sure I’d be that way too!
Looking at the metrics chart (hard to find a link but it has been posted here before) 20% of holistic applicants were admitted in 2023 which came to 942 students. (and only 50% of them enrolled)
Theoretically yes Mays could fill up with 100 percent auto admits (including homeschoolers who rank in top 10%) if there were that many of them and all of them applied early enough. I’d want to see the 2024 numbers to see how much higher they were than 2023 to see how likely that was.
My guess right now would be that is unlikely to be completely 100 percent auto admits, and your student has a great SAT score so I would stay hopeful!
That is good to know about AP Stats. Mine is taking both AP Stats and AP Calculus and when I asked why she’s taking both she mentioned something about AP stats helping her with Mays.
AP Stats-assuming she does well-will help her greatly, when taking Stats at Mays!
Silly question…942 students were those being admitted to Mays through holistics? Or the whole class of Mays for 2023?
I just know TAMU is big, but not sure about Mays class year size
I need to reword my question…as you said above no issue to get “full admission”, it means admitted to TAMU right?
But not quite clear about the chance into Mays / Statistics. I am just afraid he turns out got neither of both though he got SAT1460, his rank is 20% (maybe not high enough), regular EC marching band and many volunteering include tutoring.
Yes. Admission to TAMU. If the score is in one setting, your student should be fine.
Mays admitted about 2454 students last cycle, with approximately 1236 freshmen enrolled.
yes, the score is in one setting. He’s less worried now. Thanks.
good to know! We’d keep the faith.
Thanks @ched03 and @Bb49 for your input.
D29 rushed to school this morning and hasn’t checked if she has the final green checkmark yet. We’ll see.
Frankly, if a human has to get involved at each step, I had already mentally budgeted 3-5 business days for each simple task to get done. So, after D submitted the “my counselor sent my official transcript yesterday so how long does it take to show up in AIS” question in AIS Communications, I would’ve been perfectly fine with the answer “3-5 business days.” But instead, Admissions tells her to go upload it. Huh? Either (1) the Admissions person saw that the question topic was transcript-related and hastily copy/pasted a canned response instead of answering the exact question, or (2) there’s something tentatively slow about the two systems retrieving files and that the student uploading a transcript file is the “faster” option (i.e. if they know that it’s on it’s way from the high school, why tell the student to send another file, potentially slowing the process with two files?)
Anyways. We’ll wait a little bit. I know we’re still early since it’s only late-August and historically people applying to Viz in September still got in.
Where are the seven tabs again? I should remember this from my other Aggie, but I don’t!
In the Howdy Portal.
I was surprised how long it took for us to get the green check on transcript, after it was marked sent by the school. Be patient a few days, don’t upload anything new.
