Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

It sounds like Apply Texas had a glitch that did not send TAMU the hours or ask for the students to even disclose the hours. These kids were sent a form to complete with the missing hours info. I don’t think my son had to put down the hours in Apply Texas so I don’t think TAMU has that info from him.

Your son entered the names of extracurricular activities but did not enter any hours at all? I didn’t think that’s possible.

I recall when D26 did Apply Texas and D29 did Common App, a huge amount of time was spent recalling/calculating the number of EC hours spent each year. I believe the amount of hours spent in a particular EC over X years determines how that EC weighs in the applicant file.

It didn’t ask him to. I think that is the same case with the kids that got the email asking them to fill out the form with the hours. But my son did not this this email with the form. That is why I am worried. I know that the Common App asked for the hours when he applied to Rice, but he didn’t fill that application out until several days after applying to TAMU. Like I said, he has had 7 tabs and been in engineering review since 8/8. Do you think it even matters at this point?

Looks like that admissions office is on the the ball with answering questions. The replied and said that they only sent the form to those they needed the info on and that they did not need the info from him.

Glad you got that clarified from Admissions.

I was about to comment that I personally wouldn’t want gaps in the EC record if I’m being holistically reviewed for Engineering. Especially since Extracurricular Activities is marked as “Very Important” in the TAMU Common Data Set (see Section C7: Basis for Selection: Relative Importance of Factors in Admissions Decisions).

Perhaps your son’s academic stats alone put him in a strong position and they don’t need EC data for admissions. Who knows. If you completed the Scholarship application portion, however, any missing data might not help you.

Glad y’all got clarification on the transcript and missing ECs. So is it that the EC section on Apply Texas not go through? or is it that the section didn’t ask for the same info like number of hours?

Mine sent a question through AIS and it was pretty late in the day and received a response that same day! she did also upload a letter of rec that is still showing as “submitted” and not “received” but it seems things are taking longer to process these past couple of weeks so not really concerned.

It did not ask him to fill out the hours.

Does commitment to the Corps of Cadets impact timing of your admission decision at all? I assume not but thinking that maybe since they are trying to grow the Corps, it might help getting a response faster.

My '27 cadet was a holistic applicant and heard back mid-January. So I don’t think it made any difference.

D just told me that her transcript is green-checked now and she has 7 tabs in Howdy. Uploading it ourselves was definitely the way to go.

@TxMom07 , any progress? You said “similar situation” – do you mean you’re waiting on the counselor’s file to show up on AIS? Or they have it and it’s still being processed? Or you uploaded it?

Zero impact. The Corps is large and strong, currently, so definitely not a selling point to the university to admit students based on Corps interest.

So glad to hear that your daughter now has 7 tabs in Howdy.

The school would only allow official transcripts to go thru Xello. Between tech issues, updates, and our daughter visiting every few days, it was finally sent. Common App indicates that it was downloaded ten days ago (8 business days). It doesn’t appear on AIS. After reading here, she sent a question thru AIS yesterday afternoon to try to confirm if the transcript reached them. No response…

Admissions has responded to our questions within 24 hours via AIS for us, so hopefully you’ll get confirmation soon.

One thing we noticed in AIS is a little legend that shows another icon in between the red X and green checkmark – the yellow “caution”-like icon (which means the file was received and is currently being processed). Have you seen that yellow icon?

We never saw that yellow icon. It was a red X last night and a green checkmark this afternoon.

Statistics was an opportunity major for class of ‘27. Funny but my nephew chose history instead of stats after not getting Mays. 1320 SAT and 1Q. No calculus in HS. Got 3.9 GPA first year at A&M and got Econ major.

Well, one of Texas’s bigger university’s admissions came out today, about 2 weeks earlier than advertised. Now this wait for the Aggie Engineering decisions got just a little bit harder.

@NDTA96 Hope to hear from AIS soon. She checked again this morning before school…Still a red x.

What do you mean by “admissions came out”? Like your child got accepted?

Yes, he has been offically accepted, by email and letter in portal, to three Texas universities. Today was the biggest one so far. He applied chemical engineering to them all. I can say where if you want. Didn’t just want to blurt all that out if not wanted since this is the TAMU forum. Honestly none of these schools matter to my son like TAMU. We just had him apply as “backup” and maybe good scholarships. TAMU is the one that he has his heart set on. Getting these other acceptances only ramps up the anticipation of a TAMU decision, making it harder and harder.

Oh I would love to know which ones have sent acceptances already! My DS is ChemEng too. He waffles back and forth between first choice TAMU and the orange school. He only applied to those, UH, LSU and Bama. So far, anyway. I think he’s really set on one of the big two though. UH is too close to home for him. His brother goes to Bama, so I’d love that but I get that job recruiters don’t go there as much as TX schools.

So our high school finally updated transcripts from summer classes and I was right to rush and get his stuff done before this happened…the class size shrunk by 10 kids which knocked my kid from 9.8 to 10.2%! His actual spot moved down one place I think.

I am so glad to have those 7 tabs already showing.
