Question: my daughter is doing dc and wants to take Spanish 4. Do dc classes count against the 30hr max outside of your major?
Are you asking in regards to tuition turning to OOs?
For automatic admit wanting engineering, when will the student find out if they are accepted to engineering?
I think a few on here have found out but the majority will be after or close to Oct 15th.
Help! We are using Apply Tx, on the school-required portion that is a mile long… all info has been completed and it won’t let me save. The short essays do not have a character max associated with them like the scholarship portion and the long essay. Any advice? We found an online resource saying max 592 words so we stayed under that. However I heard the Common app only allows 250. Do we need to reduce the size of the short essays (person most impacted and life event)? Gosh I hope not.
Short answer should be a lot less. 250 word count is ideal. Concise Concise Concise. Take out all the things that aren’t necessary to convey the answer.
Still no green check on the transcript. How many days did it take for yours to show up?
Recap for us:
8/15 (Thu) - HS counselor sent
8/16 (Fri) - college downloaded (note: this is tracked in SchoolLinks, not AIS)
Today is 8/26, the 6th business day (or 10 calendar days) after “college downloaded” and it’s still a red X as of this morning.
Yes! Sorry. I could’ve been more clear. We don’t want her to have excess credits, but would like for her to continue her study of spanish (she wants to do nursing) but I can’t find a clear answer on whether DC classes count toward the max.
@Hmschl are you asking about the Tuition Rebate, offered at graduation?
DC and AP don’t count. Google Tamu excess hours. She’d have to get 30 extra degree hours. Doubt that’s going to happen. She’s good. Let her speak espanol.
Thank you!
It’s fine. DC and AP don’t count as excess hours for tuition rebate or out of state tuition. Change of major limits are 60-75 depending on major and usually DC and AP are excluded from that too but that may vary by major. For example Mays specifically says dc and ap are excluded and don’t count against. Google change of major tamu and you can check by major but excess DC isn’t really a problem usually. It’s common now for students to have lots of DC. My daughter had 30 DC and 12 AP and my son will have 60 DC and 12 AP.
That seems extra long. I think my kiddo did actually send a question about it through AIS and they responded right away that they had it but had not processed it. He got the green check the next day. Maybe try that?
For all who have been following our Case of the Missing Transcript (see post #537 and #608), I have an update and a warning.
This morning, it was still a red X, so D29 submitted another question to Admissions via AIS. They responded and said that they have NOT received the transcript from the high school. Yep, the transcript that was requested on 8/5, which the counselor supposedly sent on 8/15, and the college supposedly downloaded on 8/16, somehow disappeared.
So, a whole 3 weeks completely wasted. (8 business days of counselor delays and 7 business days of believing the transcript actually made it over and trying to be patient as they process it.)
This evening, D29 uploaded the transcript PDF to “My Documents.” Done. Restart the clock.
There were concerns from the beginning. D got a new high school counselor. The high school is using new software – SchooLinks – and a new process for requesting transcripts. Potential for issues. Need to be alert.
Anyways, my warning … if anyone is using “College Application Manager” in SchooLinks and you see the screenshot below … don’t trust it. (And yes, “school report” is supposedly the transcript.) And if you already have your transcript (which you should, to do your SRAR), then just upload it instead.
We are in a similar situation…Has the transcript turned to a green X? Today is 6th business day and 10th calendar day.
Glad you found out and got it fixed. Trusting the school counselors at a school as big as ours is tricky. Trust but verify is a good way to be. DIY when possible.
I have heard of several kids who applied with Apply Texas receiving an email asking them to fill out an extra curricular form to add the amount of ours they participate in their activities each week. My son has not received this email and he applied with Apply Texas. He is in the top 10% but so were several of the other kids. Should we be worried? He received 7 tabs and has been in engineering review since 8/8.
@TxMom07 , D has not logged into AIS to check today yet. I don’t anticipate it to turn to a green checkmark that fast since she uploaded the file yesterday after office hours. And I believe the upload confirmation said something like it’ll take up to 24 hours for the file to be linked to her record. Factor in a human has to read the transcript (i.e. it’s not automatic), I expect a couple of days at a minimum.
@ched03, that sounds odd. Are you saying that these other kids who completed the Apply Texas app, which already asked for EC info + hours per week, were just sent an email asking them to go back to the Apply Texas portal to re-enter EC hours?
