Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

He has been accepted to Lamar University (accepted 8/21), UTSA (accepted 8/27) and now Texas Tech (accepted 8/30). He has also applied to TAMU, TAMUG, University of Houston and Rice. Like I said, all for Chemical Engineering.

Well congrats, that’s exciting! I hear that Lamar offers great scholarships. Not sure about the others.

If he gets good scholarships to other schools and has to choose less debt vs. TAMU I don’t envy him in the decision making. As a proud member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2003, my time at TAMU means the world to me. I know he would love it but it is his life and these decisions to be made are his.

With this news out, I wonder if A&M will go to top 6% next year like the other school already has . :woman_shrugging:

Here is an article that talks about what is discussed in this post that you shared. Texas A&M growth sparks plans for major campus improvements

“Key proposals include adding 2,500 on-campus beds, expanding dining space by 28,000 square feet, and constructing a new $130 million classroom building on the west campus.“

Until 75% of the enrolled students are top 10%, there isn’t a need to lower the threshold to top 8%. The proposals are to pause the increase and build infrastructure to accommodate more incoming freshmen in future years. Therefore, the top 10% will remain. Maybe at some point Mays will be holistic even if top 10%, like the other school is with the top 6% in McCombs and Cockrell.

Last year’s CDS shows that 58.8% of enrolled students graduated in the top 10% of HS class.

Congrats on the acceptances! And the struggle is real between paying less due to getting merit vs full price at TAMU is real. Mine could easily qualify for merit at many other schools but their business programs just don’t compare to Mays. Tough decisions for our kids!

Maybe I’m missing something but have any of the articles given specific numbers when they say they are going to pause on future growth? With the population growth in Texas and the number of applications that seem to be increasing each year it doesn’t seem that it would be too far away before they reach the 75% threshold.

Thanks! Honestly while Rice may be a more “prestigious” school, but their engineering program is not ranked as high as TAMU. If my son didn’t want to got to TAMU so bad, I bet it would be a tough choice if he were accepted. The college application process and the need to pick a major so early is so different than when I was in school over 20 years ago. I don’t envy these kids at all.

In Fall 2019 it was 70.1% in the top 10% and 9600 FT freshmen. So if the admission is capped, yes, the top 10% rate will rise due to increasing demand. However, we’re about to experience a bit of a high school graduate decline in Texas over the next few years. Not as bad as other states….

How so with the influx of new residents? Curious!

Agreed, our school district is busting at the seams and can’t build new schools quick enough!

2025-26 is the peak for Tx HS graduates.

Are you in a metroplex suburb? Smaller towns and inner cities are declining.

The Great Recession starting in 2008 was the start of a drop and people are having fewer kids. That’s offset by immigration and migration.

Hi! Transcript Question..Do I need to send a transcript right now (my school uses Parchment to send)if I am a holistic applicant? SRAR is done & has been received weeks ago. Thank y’all :+1:t3:

No. If you are a holistic applicant, you do not need to send a high school transcript now. See the Undergraduate Document Submission page.

Our district outside Houston is busting at the seams too. I forget the percent growth but we open 2-3 new elementary schools every year and this year we opened our 10th HS and 16th JH.

Yes sure am, although when we first moved here it was very much a small town. There has also been a huge increase in people moving to the metroplex (DFW) in recent years since the pandemic so it will be interesting to see how that impacts the drop in birth rates. I have a class of 2027 and 2030 so will be curious to see how their years differ from this one.

Hi y’all! I’m a prospective TAMU co 2029 student and was wondering if there was any way for a student like me to get a full ride into the college?

I live in Florida and due to my academic metrics I qualify for the Bright Futures Scholarship and will probably qualify for the Benaquisto Scholarship. Combined, that will allow me to go full ride in any public Florida college.

I was wondering if there were any scholarships like that in Texas for out-of-state students? I would love to apply to merit scholarships that could cut down the cost of going to TAMU.

TLDR

Do you know any merit scholarships that can cut down the cost of going to TAMU. Plus, do you know how much aid they give to out of state students based on merit?
