Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

I ran into the not having access this morning as well. I called the Dept. of Residence Life, and they were amazingly helpful. Don’t hesitate to call after you have tried a different browser. That can make a difference as well.

I called and they told me that he might not be fully in the system yet. I already tried different browsers. An hour later he still can’t fill anything out.

I was 9:08.

Is anyone else still not able to sign and pay? Still getting the same error I got at 9am. ResLife says it takes 24-48 hours to be able to do all of this but if everyone signing up today was admitted yesterday along with my son I just don’t get it. Why is he so “special”? LOL

We have had a pretty successful chance me rate on here, but honestly, every cycle can yield different results. so many factors play into each cycle. Once holistics admissions start coming in, we glean a better understanding of how it will play out in general terms. There are always outliers.

Feel free to give stats here if you want opinions from here.

My holistic son found out he was admitted to Mays last year on 9/18, so I’m hoping my engineering son finds out next week too!

@Jessica_R , further back in this thread I recall your son’s stats included an SAT of 1270. I found two examples of past Viz applicants with a similar rank as yours (11-13%). Ignoring other factors, one had an SAT 1250 and didn’t get Viz, and one had an ACT 30 (~SAT 1370) and did get Viz.

Your son’s goal, which I hope he’s focusing on, is two-fold: (1) retake the SAT and try to add another ~100 points, and (2) submit a resume that describes your son’s deep experiences in animation.

Regarding the SAT, going from a 1270 to a 1370 is about 12 more correct answers. To put it another way, get 6 more questions right in each of the Math and English portions. I think that’s within reach if your son pushes hard in the next 1-2 months. Use all the resources available.

He’s in the final stretch of the marathon. Give it all ya got!

wow! that’s impressive! would you mind sharing some stats?

ok, I’ll play. ;).

top quarter AIS
SAT: 1370
Unweighted GPA: 3.85
AP scholar award (whichever one they give with 5+ AP tests with average over 3.5)
good rigor- 9 APs, including BC calc, physics, chem, etc.
major: architecture or construction science

edit: I am somewhat confident he will get in, just wondering if/when he will hear back. is it reasonable he might hear back before January?

so funny, checked the confirmation email that housing was complete and it was sent at 9:08  I think we lucked out at getting in early before the site got too busy!

what major is he applying to?

architecture or construction science

@ched03 , sorry to hear that you’re in ResLife limbo. As a side note, are you aiming for a popular dorm (or do you even know what dorm your son is interested in at this point)?

The reason I ask is because some dorms fill up faster than others. For example, I’ve heard that Hullabaloo (the nicest and most expensive dorm) fills up within minutes of dorm selection in the Spring. I think a lot of the anxiety stems from competition for that dorm.

Other dorms on down (Modular-style, Commons-style, etc.) don’t fill up as fast, so it should reduce the anxiety of I-must-sign-up-this-very-second.

Yeah, I feel like his SAT score is probably his biggest stumbling block right now. I’ll do my best to recommend he give it another go.

He did submit his resume which I think is pretty solid in demonstrating his passion and focus on animation/visualization (blurred and blocked out parts for his privacy). His essay was also equally solid (in my opinion anyways, but I’m sure all parents think this about their kid! haha).

Really hoping it works out for him since Viz is really what he’s got his mind and heart set on!

any luck? that is frustrating but hopefully the site gets resolved so he can sign up.

Anyone’s student planning on majoring in Construction Science? If so, what other schools and programs have they looked at that compare to TAMU’s? I hear that TAMU’s is one of the best programs in the country for this major, but we would like to hear others’ thoughts and insights.

Full disclosure: My student has been accepted to TAMU along with other schools with a similar major.

Oh, today is not fun for sure. I called ResLife back and they said that he is listed as a Galveston student and that is why he can’t log in for College Station (CS) housing.

He applied to both to keep his options open being from very small 1A private school with a graduating class size of 19. He may decide that CS is too big for the first year.

Anyway, after being transferred to admissions they said that ResLife had to make the change and transferred me back to them. They were able to reclassify him as a CS student and I was able to sign and pay for housing but… Now it is saying he is in temporary housing because he is either a non-freshman or housing is full which neither is true. I called them back and they had me email so they can take it up after supervisors get back from lunch.

So this is where we stand right now. He wants the engineering LLC or he may just choose to got to Galveston, so we need to get this temporary housing thing fixed.

Edited: Phase 1 is now complete but they did tell me that we may have more issues in other phases because of this “location” problem. Time will tell but all that matters is that Phase 1 is officially complete. LOL

@ched03 , if your son ends up in College Station and he wants the Engineering LLC, then he won’t even have the stress of picking the dorm/room in the Spring. No rush/stress to be at the very front of the queue. The LLC will assign the dorm building (either Mosher or Aston) and exact room. In the Spring, he’ll just find/pair with a roommate and then the LLC director will do the rest. My D26 lived in the Engineering Honors LLC (ECOS) her freshman year.
