Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

When my Aggie applied she had to get the letters from her recommenders and upload herself into the AIS.

In this area - if you click the button “Request Items from my High School Counselor” it opens a box where you can type in the name of the recommender and their email address and they can upload it from there so it retains confidentiality if preferred. It does not have to be a counselor as I understand it, you can request a document from a recommender as well I was told and it worked for us.

So, in the LLC section of the Phase 2 housing, process my son was told to be sure to check his student email weekly to check for any correspondence that may be needed in the coming months. We have been pretty good at figuring everything else out but we can’t figure out how to check his student email. Can someone direct us where to go to check it?

My son just checked in AIS to see if his teachers’ LOR were received yet…and they weren’t :disappointed: BUT… it says that his official school transcript was received yesterday.

Is this a normal progression in the process? I know for top 10% an official transcript is required to verify your class position, but my son is just outside of this and under holistic review. The only other documents noted are his resume, SRAR, and freshman application.

What other possible documents would be listed here? Thanks for any insights anyone can share!

@ched03 , when D26 went through the housing phases, correspondence continued to go to her personal email address (Gmail), not TAMU email address.

Edit: Maybe it went to her TAMU address also; I’m not sure. But I do know she got ResLife emails to her Gmail since she often forwarded them to me to be in the loop.

I was hoping this would be the case.

@martinezcs , your daughter was auto-admit, so the LOR probably wasn’t for admission, right? Was it for scholarship purposes?

Did the Scholarship & Financial Aid Office first request LOR, and then she submitted it?

I know the Scholarship web page says “Letters of recommendation will not be accepted or considered for scholarships unless specifically requested by Scholarships & Financial Aid. You will be contacted directly if a letter(s) of recommendation is required.”

D29 hasn’t sent any LOR because, as of right now, we don’t see any reason to (i.e. auto admitted and no request from Scholarship office).

Am I missing something?

Are the only people submitting LOR now holistic applicants?

More info I stumbled on what will be pulled from the common app and won’t be–whether LOR, transcripts etc.

  1. Interestingly, there is now another document listed under documents received dated yesterday and it’s “transcripts from unknown institution” I have to imagine that must be the transcript from the common app that the school counselor must have recently uploaded but will ask student to clarify through AIS since it is concerning that the institution is listed as “unknown” (daughter had already had transcript sent early August using the school district’s transcript ordering service so that one has been listed since the beginning and used to verify ranking etc).

  2. If your student logs back into the common app and clicks on “what’s next” under their submitted app to TAMU they will see this info:

If you have provided documents via the Common App then you do not need to request the documents again using AIS. We will pull documents required to complete the application from the Common App site as well as recommendations.

All freshmen applicants must complete a Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) except for GED graduates. If you are a Texas student and qualify for admission under the top ten percent rule, you must report your numeric ranking in the SRAR. We will only pull transcripts from Common App for students ranking in the top ten percent, high school graduates and students presenting international credentials.

Sharing because this info likely pops up when they first submit their app but us parents aren’t likely to see it and students aren’t likely to read it all in detail because they are just glad to have their app submitted by that point.

Oh and now in Howdy portal there’s the official red “Whoop, you’ve been admitted!” yay!

yes very normal part of the process! Every time you upload or someone sends a document it will show up under “received documents” so this is where LOR would be too. If you look under “my communications” you’ll see any emails/letters that have been sent as well (mine can see her official admittance letter here as well) and any questions and responses between your student and TAMU.

Do y’all have all green checks and the app is in review notice?

Mine is auto admit but submitted LOR due to wanting to be considered for Business Honors. But otherwise there would have been no reason for her to submit them.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, all checks and status is in review :white_check_mark:

My daughter has been accepted, but I don’t see the ‘Whoop you’ve been admitted’. Where in the howdy portal is this?

Also, we have the mysterious ‘transcript from unknown institution” now as well.

In the howdy portal if your student goes to the applicant tab and then clicks on “manage applications” they’ll see it.

That makes me feel better that we aren’t the only ones with the mysterious transcript, lol. Going to assume that’s just how the system labels it when it pulls it from the common app and that they pulled them all right before admitting this first wave.

My son finally has his 7 tabs! He was top 10% but we found out this week he is a National Merit Semi-Finalist. How do we submit this information to Texas A&M? All he received is an email from his school (plus his name was included in National Merit press releases).

Hi! If anyone has any input, it would be so greatly appreciated! I uploaded both recommenders’ LORs in AIS, which have been marked as received :+1:t3: One recommender also uploaded her LOR on Common App. Should I ask the recommender to remove it since it has already been received via AIS? I don’t want there to be any confusion/do something incorrectly.

You have to email them.

I would just leave it. No need to remove it. Mine has a similar situation.

We have that also! I also saw on my sons UT Status page that he has had 2 additional transcripts sent from his school last week? We did not request anything to be sent.

It may not have been necessary but she just submitted them. She applied to several universities and some required it and some it was optional. She just submitted to all. She didn’t need to submit her SAT score either but she did anyway. She did receive a department scholarship in addition to the university scholarship as an incoming freshman. If we had not already uploaded the letters they probably would have requested it. I know at least one of the letters was from her art teacher.
This year she also got a scholarship from the association of former students in addition to the university scholarship and department scholarship. Encourage your students to fill out the scholarship application every year!

Hey everyone! Just got (auto)admitted to Bush School for Poly Sci. Reading through this thread, I notice a lot of talk about the housing deposit. I am hoping to attend OOS private schools, but TAMU is my main safety. So, how quickly do I need to submit a housing deposit? What good would submitting mine early as opposed to a month from now do? Does TAMU’s safety status in my college list change any of these factors? TIA
