Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

What is an example of a “high score” in the past 1-2 years that heard back on holistic in the fall? 33-34ish+ ACT? 1500ish+ SAT? Or higher than those?

1450+ SAT, 33+ ACT most likely considered ‘high’ scores, if holistic; still no guarantee to hear back in the fall tho.

My daughter is TAMU class of 2027 and she heard back on Dec. 15 - holistic, top 25% with a 1320.

My son is class of 2028 holistic, and he heard back Sept 19 with a 1510.

What is the score range for students who get TEAB? Is there any rhyme or reason?

My daughter from class 2028 she got on Sep 29 with sat score of 1390.

What major?

My son got in holistic on Oct.12 Class of 2027 with a score of 1530 and NM Finalist.
Applied first week of Aug. Assigned Top Quarter. Very small non-ranking school.
From what I remember, in general, the first groups of holistic students to be accepted in 2027 was several weeks later than what is was last year for 2028.

A change to 7 tabs in the Howdy portal is an early indicator of acceptance. Search this group for tabs and you’ll see screenshots of the difference.

My son is a Class of 26, OOS so they are all holistic, 35 ACT, and he heard on 10/31. I recall everyone on this board for their class being surprised that an OOS student heard that early, and based on comments it appears that most heard much later.

An SAT score is just one factor. Math course rigor is critical for prospective Engineering students.

Taking AP Calculus AB during the senior year isn’t as good as AP Calculus BC. But even then, the university has no idea what kind of grades you’re making. You could be barely passing, and they wouldn’t know. However, if you took Calculus BC your junior year and you made all A’s, then you’ve shown more tangible proof of your math ability.

If your student did not indicate on their application that they were interested in the university honors program and now are, can they still apply? If so, what is the process? Do they need to be admitted first before applying?

I’m sure they still can as there is still plenty of time. Mine checked “yes” for honors and received an email with a link to apply. I think the link to apply is the one on the TAMU website. I would have your student ask through AIS if they can change their app to say “yes” to being interested.

I was just answering the question about what scores get TEAB.

@sbhubbell , yes, I know. And I was expanding upon @AETX 's question of “any rhyme or reason.”

I was trying to show the “big picture” in the context of a prospective engineering student – SAT score is one factor, but another factor is proof of Calculus readiness.

Here’s a quote from @FriscoDad in post #3042 in the Class of 2028 thread (emphasis mine):

TAMU undergraduate admission is 100% decided by admission office, and upon engineering department request, they look exclusively on students’ Calculus preparedness. That’s why having Calculus to prove is very important. Engineering math is very unforgiving at TAMU, each engineering major easily has over 50 credit hours using Calculus.

A 1400 is a very good score; don’t get me wrong. But the SAT doesn’t cover any Calculus. So they look closely for it in the high school courses/grades.

If we understand the big picture, the “rhyme or reason” becomes a little clearer.

Has anyone paid the housing deposit yet? I am not getting access to reslife still. My daughter is auto admit.

Yes, many have. What is the error that you are receiving when you try to log in? My son had an odd error that required a phone call to reslife.
