Your son could be a good candidate for Gateway. They are trying to get back to the program targeting students who are qualified for full admit but may need some time prior to school starting to learn study skills, time management, time for acclimation, and for some who may need more support starting out if they are first gen. This is why the program was originally developed. It then kind of got away from this, but from my understanding, they are focusing on prioritizing these types of students. Since your son has dyslexia but a solid application, he could be a good fit. There aren’t really any stats for getting into this program.
Have him apply to Galveston in Maritime Administration and do it ASAP. It’s the easiest transfer into Mays and in the meantime he will still be a full Aggie, get tickets to Aggie football games, etc. I know a kid who was able to transfer into Mays in 1 Semester.
Sounds like a great kid but unfortunately a lot of those EC’s and qualifications aren’t what they want. He’s definitely got a shot but the more backup plans you have the better.
It’s a great backup option.
I’ll 2nd the Maritime business degree. I’ve had many go this route in order to change campus when they could (you lose housing cost at Galveston if you change after one semester I believe). HOWEVER, I would say half of my students that did this route, ended up falling in love with the school and environment and graduated with that degree. It’s a very lucrative degree… anything maritime is. And interesting.
Yes it’s a great degree and program. Smaller classes and great profs. They have an awesome Study Abroad program in Copenhagen that is the same cost as a regular Semester at A&M minus plus travel expenses. Only a few schools in the world with a similar program and A&M is elite.
My eldest is a Maritime Transportation major and has done great there. It’s definitely a different vibe than main campus for good and bad. MARA, MART, and MARE though are all great programs that pay extremely well after graduation.
I personally know a very, very, very strong student that was offered Blinn Team in late spring and is living their best Aggie life right now. Have a back up plan, but hold out hope! It is a long process.
He will for sure get a pathway to A&M. It will be ok, he sounds like an outstanding young man, best of luck to you.
Just received a text to ‘join a chat & community of interested students on ZeeMee’ with a link. Any idea what this is? Beneficial to getting an acceptance letter? Indicative of a coming acceptance letter? OR Just a random text with another account to set up on another platform?
The last one you mentioned, lol. It’s a social platform for prospective and admitted/current students to connect with other students, the university, etc.
that’s just mean… get lost ZeeMee
Anyone get 7 tabs today?
My daughter is still waiting…major - COMM.
Son is still waiting - Mays. Applied early, but assigned 2nd Qtr in AIS. I don’t expect we will hear until Feb/March. Not interested in Blinn, and so he has moved on. It was not a top choice anyway.
Anyone received the Computer Science major direct admission?
Computer Science is under School of Engineering, which admits incoming freshman as General Engineering only. Students must go thru ETAM to attempt to get their desired major (CompSci is extremely competitive, difficult).
Someone received the admission letter that stated it is Computer Science major without mentioning ETAM. Our letter says General Engineering and ETAM. I am guessing they offer direct major admissions to certain students.
It could have been the BA in Computing? That is a smaller major in the CoE that doesn’t go through ETAM and is direct admit but it’s not CompSci which does require ETAM.
It is not BA in Computing. He and my son applied for Computer Science under Engineering. He showed me his admission letter and it is not the same as ours.
Is the other student MNSF?
Yes, he is NMSF.
That’s the explanation! There’s a new ‘hook/perk’ (for lack of a better term) that incoming freshman who are NMSF don’t have to go thru ETAM process.
