Did you see this in the admission letter in the portal or the physical letter? Are they the same?

I saw Computer Science in his admission letter in the portal and I did not see his physical letter.

Emails came out today for business honors.

Whoop. Congrats. Welcome to Aggieland! Sounds like a well rounded applicant. Score not stellar but gives hope to many holistics who worry their score isn’t enough. Ya never know. Thank you for sharing all the stats.

You said education for major but is it truly teaching or another major within the college of education?

Congrats again.

Major - Education, Program - BS Education. Score not stellar at all, plan was to retake in December, did much better before the switch to Digital SAT.

Something I’ve been thinking about recently re: admission decisions… Years ago, we were all told sports / ECs would make us stand out. So everyone did them, some to a very high degree, and they became common/expected/taken for granted. Then it was volunteer hours. So everyone has 100 (I know my children’s school pushes everyone to 100 volunteer hours). And again, everyone has them so they do not make you stand out.

So now I’m wondering if the new “it” item is working a job. Not that many applicants have them, at least not a consistent part time job. (So while some kids may work summer camp, etc. not as many have a weekly job where they have to manage school and work at the same time). I may be off base, just food for thought as I contemplate why some students stand out and others do not.

I have a good friend who works at Rice. He’s not in admissions, but knows a few people there. He told me that the admissions folks are very aware of the “flavor of the year” on application resumes. They say it’s almost like watching lemmings with kids flocking to the same things each year. He said what they really look for is how things tie together. For example, if a student’s transcript has a bunch of comp sci related classes and they volunteer teaching elderly how to work with computers, that registers. Basically, they see the “it” things and give more credit if they connect to the students education interests. For what its worth…

Congratulations! This gives my daughter hope because her test scores (1250SAT/27ACT) are not stellar either but otherwise - she is a very well rounded student, so hope they see that with her application also!

Financial Aid - Does anyone think A&M might match UT’s going to the full tuition and fees model for people who make less than $100K/year? I know A&M has need based programs that top out at $60K but UT’s new offer seems like it could be a game-changer. And it will certainly have people giving a harder look at the second tier UT system schools.

Is it realistic to think someone might go for UTSA engineering at no tuition or fees over A&M if their income is between $65K -and $100K?

TAMU has had Aggie Assurance since 2008.
Both new UT program and Aggie Assurance are great.
Students still have to have the grades/scores to get into UT, A&M and system schools-that doesn’t change.

That’s right, but Aggie Assurance has significantly lower levels of access or support:

"Aggie Assurance covers tuition and fees for students with family income and assets equal to or less than $60,000.

Tuition support grant amounts may be offered to undergraduate students whose family income is greater than $60,000 but no more than $130,000. Tuition support grants range from $500-$1,500 based on income and financial need."

That’s not the same as a full tuition a fee waver for those making less than $100K.

Of course, the UT deal isn’t final yet so we will have to see how it reads in all the fine print.

What major is she hoping to get into? We are in the same boat with test but strong everywhere else. Mine applied to Bush School in early August and is first quarter in AIS.

1st choice - COMM; 2nd choice - HOSP. She applied August 1st and is also 1st quarter in AIS.

Congrats!
Chances of getting any scholarship $ is close to 0%-OOS and not NMSF. Just being realistic.

Yep. Not much merit, but he applied for all the scholarships and honors anyway. Can’t hurt. He LOVES Texas. We lived there while he was in middle school, and his older brother is at TCU. All he wants is A&M. He might go for cadets for band. He really wants to get into polymers. Kind of niche, but TAMU is among the best for it.
