There is usually 1 in December before the break. Maybe next Tuesday.. cross your fingers!!
and toes - lol. Would be awesome to know before Christmas!
In my AIS there is a transcript and a letter of recommendation in the documents section that I did not upload. I did upload recommendations, but I submitted everything August 15 and this was done in October. Why would these appear here? Did TAMU request these from the school or a recommendation later from someone else?
The same thing happened for our son. There was a new transcript upload in October. Probably just a follow-up thing from the high school or a request from A&M.
TAMU won’t request updated transcripts. It would be generated from your school. They look at your ranking after 6 semesters (end of junior year).
Also, where would the recommendation come from that was added? Just wondering who uploaded a recommendation.
Is he still in holistic review after that was added?
Same thing happened with mine. I think they must automatically download the documents from the common app even if they no longer need them or will consider them. Mine was admitted in September and in October AIS showed another transcript and a letter of rec from the school counselor. These were both added to the common app by the school counselor in September/October. The letter of rec wasn’t even needed for TAMU but think it was for another application that did require it.
Your student can probably see in the common app the date that any LOR were downloaded to see who/which one it was.
Have Business Honors Admits been notified? If so, will there be another release? Thank y’all.
Don’t give up on getting money. We (also OOS) were told that out of state money is extremely rare but my daughter ended up getting a large amount of merit aid - we were notified towards the end of February. Now my son is applying and we are hoping for the same.
Just saw on FB someone mention they got an invite to apply for Brown scholarship. Do those all go out at the same time and are they only to NMF?
Brown Foundation doesn’t send out invites to apply. Perhaps they received an interview?
Preferred deadline to apply is Oct 10, Dec 1 is the latest date to apply.
NMSF, incredibly competitive/selective
We’re just hoping for a competitive scholarship big enough to qualify for instate tuition. That’s affordable. Now he’s considering Cadets because he really wants band.
Best wishes to your son!
Hoping tomorrow is the day! If not, then Friday please!!!
Anyone has any more information on the Brown Foundation scholarship interview ?
My Daugher received email saying she has been selected for the interview , and was not sure if its in-person or virtual and anything to prepare for the interview
The Northeast has tons of fabulous private schools that parents want kids to attend. UConn and Rutgers are solidly rated and way better than universities like Arkansas, OSU, LSU and the like but the state schools aren’t a big draw like you mentioned.
Texas should fund higher education at a greater level. Then again, UT and A&M systems have massive endowments. I suppose those are substantially restricted.
I’m a bit surprised but my small east TX HS relatives are doing well in Mays (top 10%). Maybe it would be different in Engineering because they didn’t take calculus.
UConn and Rutgers aren’t giving out big aid packages to Texas kids that are good but not elite students. LSU/OSU/Arkansas are. Many kids can go to school at those places cheaper than at A&M. They also usually have a lot of friends doing the same and it’s still driveable to get home on the weekend for most. You do see a lot of Texas Private schools that put out a lot of aid as well to those students but that varies a lot school to school.
I’ve found a lot of small town kids do fine, especially if they come from 2 parent households and have a support structure. It’s the 1st Gen kid with divorced parents from a bad HS large or small that is going to have the hardest time. Certainly plenty of success stories there as well but that’s just a lot of cultural and academic change to overcome and without a strong support structure and likely preparation. It’s definitely throwing a kid in the deep end of the pool and seeing they can swim against kids that have been in lessons for years. My wife was one of them, hell she didn’t even know what a GPA was or how it was calculated and she had graduated 2nd in her class of 65. She had to do everything on her own and managed to navigate it successfully but it was really hard for her.
A&M and Texas have a lot of restrictions on what they can spend PUF (Permanent University Fund) money but the overall Endowment is far less restrictive. Mainly they just choose to do financial aid the way they want, realize that A&M and Texas are mostly aligned on it and they also have the political power to get state laws changed if that is an issue (that’s often an excuse given but it’s a fig leaf, if A&M and Texas want something done it almost always happens unless it is really contentious).
The Permanent University Fund (PUF) | The University of Texas System.
The Permanent University Fund is 2/3 for UT Austin and 1/3 for A&M. Other UT system schools have their own endowments.
- The PUF also benefits the UT and A&M institutions through an annual distribution of revenue from PUF investment returns to the Available University Fund (AUF). The size of the distribution is usually five percent or less of the market value of PUF investments, and the distribution may not exceed seven percent.
- The Texas Constitution requires that AUF first be used to pay principal and interest on PUF bonds, but the remainder may be used to support and maintain UT Austin and UT System Administration. The Constitution does not allow AUF to be used for operational expenses for the other UT System institutions.
LSU/OSU/Arkansas/Miss schools are fun places to go for Greek and one gets a solid education of the basics. However, the outcomes and peer students are far lower than A&M and of course that’s why they offer great financial packages.
The state wants to help the first gen kids and there are a lot of resources at the better rated public universities. Certainly at the top privates too.
At least A&M has been expanding its classes to be more accessible, if not more affordable. I love the Florida and Georgia models as well as Purdue keeping tuition at the same rate for at least a dozen years. My son was interested in OOS schools so I encouraged him to apply to Florida schools and Purdue but they’re very tough admits for Engr and Business especially for OOS kids.
