Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

Wow. Kind of makes you wonder how much it comes down to who reads the application.

Is she committed to playing golf at A&M? First gen college? Otherwise, I am floored.

Does she attend a Century Scholar school? Is she 1st gen?
Are you certain that SAT was submitted?
Like @RachelMTAMU94 asked, has she signed to play golf at A&M?

No committment for golf, not a first gen student.

5A public school, 100% certain SAT was submitted because she was not intending to submit but had accidentally sent it anyway and called me in a panic. 1140 is not a typo. Legitimately was lower than the bottom 25% of scores for A&M.

Is she an under represented people group?

Nope. White and high income.

Wow, it’s definitely cases like that that make the whole admissions process seem almost completely random

Multi-year golf captain? Athletics leadership is important at some schools. Family connection to senior A&M leader?

A friend in Houston claims he knows a board member and it helped his daughter get in.

My son is a 3-year varsity basketball captain at a 5A school and played competitive soccer at the highest levels (ECNL/MLS/DA) for years so athletics leadership in spades, legacy from multi-gen Aggie family and donors. Made no difference. I’m sure it definitely helps to know someone but doesn’t seem to be the case here. Baffling.

Nope, not a captain. 4 year varisty member though.

She did have private meetings with various high ranking officials in the business school. I know she met with the Dean for sure, and also some other admissions folks and department heads. Her father knows these individuals personally and that’s how such access was given. She swears that her knowing these people did not influence her admission decision. When she shared the news of her acceptance with them, they were surprised and didn’t really give an indication of meddling in her favor. I saw the email and text correspondences myself and it did seem that they were surprised and happy she was in. Personally, I do suspect that these privileges played a role just because of how weak her stats are. No hate though, she’s wanted to be an aggie her whole life so I’m happy for her, but also just a bit baffled.

Hmmm…interesting.

realistically, when do we think any remaining rounds of anything would be sent out? Whether its gateway, another round of TEAM, 3 options. Days? Weeks?? And when do PSA’s typically start coming out?

My daughter was a 1st choice Animal Science major and was admitted through TEAM on Wednesday. Applied first of August.

Seems unlikely those connections played no role and of course those officials would not give any indication of influence or special treatment. Especially not in an email or text that could be seen by others. Connections matter.

that’s the ONLY thing that makes her acceptance seem even possible. And I’m not saying that as a slight, but it’s just a blatant anomaly.

I don’t think we’ve seen gateway yet, have we?

Sounds like next week is expected for Gateway.

I have no idea but it’s my understanding that Gateway offers have yet to be sent out and they come after 3 options, TEAM etc. A college counselor let students know at a local high school in our area that most decisions would be offered by 1/31. So I bet another round comes out next week then maybe done.

@FriscoDad would you know if a student received the engineering options and selected TEAB that same day is there a chance that they still might not get it?

In the past few cycles, no one pick TEAB only didn’t get it.
