Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

So here is our TEAM story! I went through all of this last year with my daughter. It was a long five weeks so i hope it goes faster for you all! Although my daughter was glad she finally got the offer, she still wasn’t very excited about TEAM. She was a little hurt and felt kind of like she was getting a lesser offer. If she made a decision right away she may have chosen another school.
I tried to slow down her decision process so I suggested we do some more visits. First we went back to College Station and toured off campus housing. This helped a little because she really liked a lot of the apartments. Next we traveled out of states for a second visit. During the second visit we noticed a few negatives that we didn’t see the first time so it was really helpful. From there we took a first visit to another school that became her first choice for a few weeks. I kind of let her have that school romance because she was excited and not really ready to make a logical decision yet. This took some patience! Finally I sat her down and we compared the pros and cons of each school and she chose TAMU! It took around a month after the offer for her to decide.
She has loved it so far and doesn’t feel like less of an Aggie. She meets others all the time who are also TEAM. The program has been working out well for her and her grades are fantastic. I also love being an Aggie parent. We went to the football game against LSU and a baseball game. I’m looking forward to the family weekend in April.
This group last year was a life saver and I am still thankful! I am also in some Facebook groups for parents. I hope everyone sees favorable decisions soon!

For several years choosing “both” may not have been the best option. However, last cycle this changed and it seemed fine to choose both. Most students who got 3 options waited around 5 weeks no matter what they chose. I think the school realized that they needed to improve the process for students who chose the “both” option. That being said, who knows what will happen this cycle.
Last year my daughter initially chose TEAM only. Although the instructions say you can’t change the answer, your student can email admissions and let them know their preference. My daughter changed from TEAM only to both. The AIS didn’t change to both, but admissions did verify that she was evaluated for both options. Ultimately she still got TEAM.
This group will help you get through the process. I am not one of the group experts so definitely see what others say! I think your student will be fine. Good luck!

Thank you for your thoughtful response and your kind encouragement. I’ll wait for others to chime in and then have my son contact admissions. I wish the process wasn’t so convoluted and confusing! Again, I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

For those engineering applicants who selected the TEAB option immediately when they got it last week is it pretty much a guarantee they will get into it? It seems so based off of everything I’ve read but we’re on pins and needles still waiting.

So happy to hear Little Gold is living her best life! I went back and read through our thread, man we had it rough. If it wasn’t for those Memes you put out daily, it would have been way worse.

My friend’s son just received the 3 options yesterday. I suggested TEAM only, but I am not sure she is going to go that route. When looking through our thread, I only saw two people that said they picked both and got straight in. Do you remember if many “Both” got straight in?

My sweet Hunter is loving being an Aggie! He is glad we picked TEAM only. He went to all the games and goes to the rec center 5 times a week to workout. He made a 4.0 the first semester with his A&M classes too. Hoping he can switch majors this summer to Sports Management/full time A&M. His advisor things he can, since he had good grades the first semester. We will have to see how this Russian Civilization class at A&M goes… YIKES!

My daughter picked both and still got TEAM.

Given the plan to reduce enrollment, could this be all of the TEAM and options?

Maybe it is not as big as it sounds with first yr enrollment numbers:
2024 - 12,531 (down 6%)
2023 - 13,721
2022 - 12,490

I’m wondering that same thing…

Not a ton of detailed information but on one of the Facebook Groups, a parent commented that her daughter had a friend receive a rejection letter yesterday morning.
By afternoon they had a second friend.

She said it was by email.
When asked if she saw the letter herself, she said no, only saw the tears from the girls.

So no clear confirmation on a rejection email other than sharing 3rd hand info.

My son also reported someone at his HS received a rejection.

Wish we knew their stats but then again, that may create panic.

So back to the old saying… no news is good news!

Oh no! Sucks to hear about rejections  Does this mean that there won’t be another wave of 3 options? I’m starting to lose hope

Don’t lose hope. Gateway hasn’t come out yet. It should be any day now

My daughter reported “rejections” from friends this week also, but when I probed a bit, it turned out they were engineering applicants who received the Galveston, TEAB, Corpus options. So maybe “rejection” means different things to different kids. To me, TEAB, Galveston, etc. is not a “rejection” at all!

How exactly does Gateway work? What kinds of students is it offered to? I might be interested but cost is a huge factor for me unfortunately

You go the 2nd summer session before freshman year. That’s the added cost. Then you start in the fall assuming you meet requirements which almost all do.

It’s a covered decision for sure

Congratulations to your son on UT! Mine would probably love to change places with him. He was excited and very grateful to be admitted to Mays in October (similar stats, 33 ACT) but was deferred by UT on Jan 15 for Econ. UT is by far his first choice and his sister is there, though he did really like A&M when we visited. He has some other options he’s also excited about but I can tell he doesn’t want to seriously think about comparing them until he hears about UT. I just feel like he’s likely to be denied on Feb. 15 given they’ve accepted Econ majors already but at least then he can start thinking seriously about the options he has on the table. Anyway, best of luck to your son as he makes his choice.

Thank you for that helpful perspective. And I think my son would make that trade also - not because UT isn’t the better option for him because objectively it probably is - but because he’s grown up loving A&M and really wanted accounting more than Econ. Anyway good luck to your son - I feel like he has a great shot still and hope he gets what he wants.

Mays applicant:
-applied 8/1, in state
-submitted 1140 SAT (on accident), 6 AP’s (highest exam score for any is a 3) and various pre-ap and DC, 3.75/4.00 GPA, not ranked, no business or career related classes, 4 years of Spanish, assigned 1st quarter in AIS
-EC’s: solid, 4 years of golf, won state championship in golf, 4 years of band, 2 years of volleyball, few basic clubs and honor societies (NHS, spanish club, etc.), one leadership position (treasurer of small club), no job, ~30 volunteer hours
-Essays: okay, nothing special, wrote about golf state championship

These are my friends stats. She got full admit to Mays in October on 10/10. No hate, but I am baffled at how she got in.
