Thanksgiving is ten days away - are you ready?

We have heat!!! Thank you PSEG!!! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We made it! Happy Thanksgiving!

@oregon101 I reheated one year, guidance was same as for fresh / raw: 325 degrees F, until turkey at internal temp of 165 degrees F. It worked well but I think I had to tent with foil because outside was starting to brown before done.

Happy day, everyone!

My garbage disposal just died. :frowning: Wish it had waited until tomorrow.

HouseChatte–thanks! I should have just started from an uncooked one.

Our prepared green beans from a better store tasted simply awful. H put them in the disposal. So now I am quickly putting a new dish together. Otherwise, nothing awful is happening. LOL

intparent, yikes. Hope it just died and is not backed up. Did you check the reset button and check the fuse? Also unplug it and replug it if you can.

I tried that stuff, I think it is dead. I live in an apartment, and it was leaking a bit of water last week. Maintenance guy came and said it needs to be replaced, and we talked about him coming next week. I just put something under it to catch the drips at the time. It worked until today…

Garbage disposals should be illegal. B-) IMO.

Turkey is on the grill! The Reluctant Gourmet website would not load this morning… glad I saved the recipe on my computer!! Stuffing is done (stove top) and is redy to go into the warming drawer, mushrooms have been chopped, butter lettuce has been washed, potatoes are boiling, sweet potatoes have been cooked, cranberry sauce has been made, the crab dip is ready to go in the oven, just need to finish cooking everything.

@BunsenBurner I mostly compost, but right now I don’t even have a drainer to stop those little bits of stuffing, etc that you miss when scraping into the compost bucket. I think I’m going to move my dish drainer to that side of the sink (with the dead disposal) before doing the dinner dishes tonight.

I feel your pain! We had garbage disposals in the apartments we lived, and they were a PITA. Good luck… it really stinks.

Found bourbon pecan tarts! Done.

The day went well. All washed and put away except the tablecloth in the washer. We really liked D’s BF. I am tired and stuffed. Yay for no work til Monday.

How does anyone have energy for Black Friday shopping the day after???

Whew, time to finally relax. My whole family is in bed already and I just bought my first Christmas gift. It was too expensive for D19 to fly home for Thanksgiving break this year so she stayed in CA. BIL lives about 90 mins away so she is spending her break with his family. She just sent me a text asking about my winter coat - she borrowed it constantly last winter break (she doesn’t need one at school in southern CA). She looked for something similar and just sent me a link asking for one for Christmas. So bought that, then bought my boys sweaters for the holidays since they were also on sale. And then of course, had to buy something for myself.

My kids usually give me wish lists but they haven’t really been able to think of much. I never shop on Black Friday unless it’s from the comfort of my house. Usually I have ideas by now, but since they can’t think of anything, I probably will relax tomorrow instead of cyber shop. Maybe I’ll try to create a Christmas (photo) card. I usually wait until the last minute then have to rush to get them out on time.

Hope everyone had a nice holiday!

Leftovers are stuffed into tubs and put away. Turkey carcass stock is on the stove. Family is watching some movie… I am making tea and prepping dessert table.

One of the best things about grown up kids is their cooking skills. D2 just fed me a piece of the apple pie she made today. It was amazing.

Roasted the turkey and made rest of meal at one of my churches so I could get caught up on office work at the same time.

Brought leftovers to my 3-11 client who was very delighted to have a Thanksgiving meal. Figured since he was paying double time he should get something out of the deal.

Took the cranberry upside down cake out of the oven a bit too early. Even after cooling, when I removed the springform ring, it gently opened like a flower. (Looked like a cranberry wreath.) Beautiful. Delicious. The guys kept coming back for that and the raw apple cake. Sent them home with more.

Did a 3 day dry brine on my turkey. It was the prettiest turkey I’ve ever cooked, but it was just okay. No juicy the way it was promised, but thank God for MIL’s gravy. I’m not ever going to any trouble for a turkey again. A couple of years ago, I did a wet brine for days, and IT was the worst turkey I’ve ever cooked. Butterball for me from now on. DH has a friend with a huge smoker who invites all his friends over to smoke their turkeys. He makes a big deal of it-people arrive early and he has spices all set up, metal tags to identify the various birds, bloody Marys, etc. The smoked turkey was quite good.

It took me two days to get ready for this dinner. No way I am going anywhere to shop. Kudos to the folks who have the energy.

It was hectic getting all prepared in a new, smaller kitchen - definitely not enough counter space for prep. But we eventually got it all done and everyone seemed to enjoy the meal, and especially the time spent together. I told S1 that if he’s in a house by next Thanksgiving, I’ll cook the dinner at his house.
