Thanksgiving Travel Thread: Weather affecting your travel??

My two made it home safely - thankful!!! But my sons college that he left 6 hours ago now has snow emergencies with no parking on any city street. Skipped town just in time!!

Best wishes to the travelers still out there.

Snowing in NE Ohio and Western NY, so delays everywhere. Thankfully, my D flew in on Friday night-before snow made a mess of our airport last Saturday, and she doesn’t leave again until this Saturday. Hope everyone gets where they need to be safely.

My kiddies happily snug in their room. Airport a total traffic jam. Ate latkes and turkey and couldn’t wait to be aone, together, without me. joy.

I usually only book nonstop flights. Hope I don’t regret this booking thru Seattle. Will find out tomorrow. ;). I remember quite a few layovers when I was in college; we didn’t have a major airport very near and generally had to fly to SF and then on to Portland or a small plane to Eugene. Davis also didn’t have any airport and had to get from Sacramento to Davis, after a stop in SF.

Hmmph–and I am just annoyed that my dryer parts are not going to arrive when I paid for overnight delivery… seriously hope all of your loved ones are safe and home.
HImom–it all fine here in the PNW. It is really only about 45 low but for some reason feels very very cold–it does not feel normal to any of us–
there is no snow or ice except in the mountains. Some frost but not airplane issue frost.

Thanks. Am happy she will soon be on her way! We last said goodbye her when we were all visiting S in Arlington VA just weeks ago. Very excited! :)

My sister and niece left to get here from Western Mass yesterday, a day earlier than planned. Relieved that they are here in southern NJ , but my daughter and her bf are driving from Danbury, CT today…mama bear is nervous.
Safe travels to all !

My D is flying from LaGuardia to Detroit - late afternoon/early evening flight. I think she’s going to be ok with the flight- mildly delayed maybe.

I just checked and her plane is going from Myrtle Beach to LaGuardia before her leg to DTW and that may be where the delay is.

D got in last night BOS-ORD. We had been hearing about the big northeast storm, but her flight was delayed only 15 mins.

CT still just has rain…lots of it…but just rain.

D got home a little past midnight last night. Didn’t seem too bad, although her connecting flight was delayed due to mechanical problems. H got her switched to a flight to Boston instead of Manchester and she came home, roughly at the time she was scheduled to come home anyway! Feels great to have both kids home.

Good luck to the others still traveling…

S, DIL and 3 month old GD left PA around 6:00 this morning and are driving down to us in SC. They’re in VA, coming down I-81 and so far so good. They may hit a little bit of snow/ice around the Harrisonburg to Blacksburg area but hopefully it won’t be too bad. We’re expecting them to arrive by dinnertime. Can’t wait to see her, uh…I mean them! ;)

Weather at DTW (Detroit) is partly cloudy and 34 F. No meaningful weather as of noon on Wednesday.

D is staying in her area and going to her boyfriends parents house. I’m glad as she has to work today and there is messy weather where she is.

S and his girlfriend are driving up here to northern Michigan. We have lake effect snow but we are used to it. His gf has a Subaru and they went to school with a lot of snow. I told him last week they should bring the SUV but he just texted me to ask if we had much snow. Depends on what your idea of a bunch of snow is! I’m sure they will be fine whatever car they bring.

My son is about to get on the bus in Chicago to head up to Wisconsin. It’s clear and sunny here–just how we like it. The only problem is I cannot find his winter jacket ANYWHERE and it is 20 degrees out. I hate buying him a new one when he only uses it when he is home on break from his college in the south.

Look in the back of that closet you rarely use, it’s always there. Or look again where it ought to be, very closely. One of the two always works for me!

Good advice…I will try when I get home. So frustrating!

Thanks for the info. I am always very eager to know everything about CT.

Does anybody here by any chance know any “good” car dealer in southern CT? In particular, the Subaru dealer in Milford or Branford? With a weather like this, I think an AWD car may be good. But I do not know which model will be better: a Forester or an Outback, for the winter weather on the NE coastal area (heavy rain or snow), assuming that there is no need to drive on any unpaved roads?

DS rent a car now. But he could not rent a car forever.

Mcat2 I have an Outback and love it. The Forrester is very nice also but less expensive. I don’t think one is better than the other. My S’s gf has a Crosstour, which is a smaller SUV. Very nice.

I’m not sure if CT gets enough snow that you need a Subaru. But then I’ve become jaded about snow. (We get a lot).

Wow - gorgeous out. Light traffic, we’ve only hit two slow spots.
We might change our mind & go camping!
