Yes, the Braille typewriter was invented by a teacher at Perkins. As with its mechanical counterpart, working models these days are largely in attics or museums or Tom Hanks’ house.
Completely agree with you on this. Izzy hasn’t been as likable for me.
Question on the editing/interviews. During the Braille challenge, they showed the brother talking a lot about his mom and how thrilled she would be etc etc. Do they shoot these interview clips while they are actually doing the challenge? That would be so disruptive - can’t imagine they can focus if that’s also going on at the same time.
At first I wasn’t an Izzy fan (and full disclosure, I’m easily frustrated, so we talk about me on TAR as a joke, my husband and kids (except one) are way chiller). But I have empathy for her, and she seems to apologize genuinely. I think people are wired a certain way, and tge couple seems very much in love.
Another thing I notice about Izzy is she doesn’t take her frustrations out on Paige or others. Yes, there have been some concerning moments of intense frustration, but I notice they are pretty quick to level themselves. I admire the way Izzy and Paige relate to each other. It seems genuinely kind and loving.
This is likely click bait, but I disagree with Phil’s comment about TAR fans seeing more drama than they are used to. If anything, I thought this season had less drama and more collaboration. https://parade.com/tv/phil-keoghan-the-amazing-race-38-u-turn-vote-drama
“Things were complicated from the beginning,” he continues. “No buildup, there was pressure long before I said go. I think BB fans got what they wanted. And TAR fans got the kind of drama they don’t usually see on the show. I think what we saw was drama that wasn’t solely promoted by TAR. It was left over emotions from their BB history and, again, a long time coming. TAR doesn’t facilitate many moments where everyone is in one place at exactly the same time.”
True, if that wheelbarrow was not an inanimate object it would still be smarting over that kick Izzy laid on it.
I think they shoot the interviews right after the leg ends and then edit the relevant discussion into the task footage.
I think is what they hoped for this season, but it really hasn’t turned out to be that way. They’ve included some BB related comments to try to make it seem that way, but if anything there seems to be more inter-team love between the BB players. Well, in one case literally boyfriend/girlfriend. And in another, very friendly ex-boyfriend/girlfriend.
Taylor also dated Joseph for awhile! So ex-boyfriend-now -opposition!!!
Yes that’s who I meant. They seem very friendly rather than competitive.
I was very happy with the winners. They totally deserved it!
There were a couple of times in last night’s episode where I was watching the shadows to see how much time had lapsed. One example was when Izzy & Paige and Joseph & Adam were running towards Phil. It seemed like they were very close. Joseph & Adam had a large reaction and seemed to spend a decent amount of time on the mat. When Izzy & Paige arrived, they were in tears. I’m guessing that they were held back by production and told to wait for the mat to clear.
The other instance was when fabric was delivered to the art institute. I was trying to look at how much sun was shining on the art students to see how much time had really lapsed and how close or far apart the teams were. The needle in a haystack aspect of finding the fabric didn’t seem to be all that difficult.
That surprised me. The Project Runway contestants, who theoretically would know a lot more about fabrics, seem to always struggle at Mood. ![]()
Disappointing finale with very linear tasks. To some extent, that may be sue to the contestants being well prepared and good at the game. Once J&J made it to the Empire State Building first, there was no way for the other teams to catch up. Seemed like a bit of luck with taxi drivers. They certainly deserved the win as they were so dominant.
Luck is always involved with taxi drivers. Jag & Jas, as well as Kyland & Taylor, kept the same driver. Joseph and Adam didn’t think to do that. Not sure how much time that cost them or if the other two teams were just so efficient that there was no way to catch up.
I thought about that, but in Midtown, it likely would not have been a long wait for a cab.
I do wonder what the fare for the other 2 cabs were. Jag & Jas paid $700 with (generous) tip, but the fare alone was probably a few hundred.
I’m so glad that I avoided spoilers and this thread until I watched this afternoon. Fun ending. Win deserved.
Just finished!
Not surprised at the winners and certainly deserved but also would say if any of the other teams beat Team Jag THAT team would have really deserved it!
so congrats to them but it was the 3rd place team that made me cry. What sweet admiration between those two. ![]()
I found out recently that Kyland and Taylor were no longer together so I have to say, I figured they didn’t win!
Finally THE MOST EPIC SCENE EVER ON AMAZING RACE…. A stop on Sesame Street!!! The excitement of them all there was A-dorable!
This is interesting. The Amazing Race final four on 'technical difficulties' you didn't see
After you guys were announced the winners, how long after that did Taylor and Kyland show up?
Jag: I think there might have been some technical difficulties for the other teams at the crossword puzzle. I don’t know how long that took, but we got to the mat maybe around an hour or something before the other teams.
You conquered Big Brother and The Amazing Race. Is there another one you’d like to take on next?
Jag: Everybody knows what the next one should be. I would love to do Survivor next. That’s the one where I’m knocking at their door. That’s the next domino to fall in the stack of shows that I’m doing.
What was that final crossword puzzle like? Jag told us there might have been some technical difficulties for you.
Taylor: I want to smile about it. First of all, I was like, “Oh, I’ve been here for a fashion show. I feel so comfortable in this space.” I love crosswords and word searches — that is my jam. Yeah, there were some technical difficulties. We ended up having to get moved from screen one, to screen two, to screen three over the course of us doing it. So, all the work we already got done, we basically had to do [multiple] times all over again on the fourth screen.
