Yes, but they were only picked because of the Big Brother connection. So out of a very limited pool rather than out of the much larger pool of general applicants by attracting the producers’ attention because of their stories.
It seemed that for the last couple of seasons the show was increasing in popularity somewhat again. I wish they hadn’t felt they needed to resort to reality show crossover casting again. Personally, I’ve never seen Big Brother because Amazing Race is the only reality show I’ve ever been interested in. I like the travel and challenges and am really really not interested in inter-contestant drama.
I’m with @one_two in that TAR is the only reality show I. watch. My concern is that the make-up of the contestant pool will be overall less diverse/interesting but time will tell.
It is like Survivor All Stars. Even if they weren’t on the same season, they know each other through reunion shows and social media. I’m sure there will be alliances that formed prior to the start of the race.
I think this is it. If you haven’t watched they will just be the ordinary people they were before appearing on BB. It won’t change the places they visit, the struggles, the hunger to win the $!
I may be wrong, but I imagine people who go on shows such as Big Brother (and others along those line) will be more interested in seeking out attention, social media presence, etc. than many typical TAR contestants — but we’ll see. I enjoy TAR (and liked the last cast a lotl) so hope this works out.
I know that Big Brother is not known as a educational enriching show…
But the show has been on for 25+ seasons because it’s entertaining and it’s entertaining because of the people on it. I’m not checking ages I’m checking personalities and competitiveness and potentially skills - of all sorts.
This is one season of AR. We have had themed seasons before - family edition, celebs, past contestants… they are often a one and done - as this one will be.
I hope we can have some good discussions here. Whether you are 30, 50 or 70!
To be clear, I do watch BB, although I may be done after this season along with Bachelor in Paradise. I’m not a fan of returning BB players on BB, but if I had to suck it up, there are other BB players I would rather see
I have a 100% opposite opinion about the family edition—not being able to leave the US restricted the show—many stops were not as exciting as when the world is available.
Also, families with older children had a great advantage over those with younger kids. Some sort of equalizer was needed.
I’m glad that the ‘do not leave the US’ wasn’t implemented during the COVID times.
But hey, we don’t always have to agree on everything, right??
So of course I watched despite my dismay about the BB (which I don’t watch) tie in. I hadn’t realized that this season was the European Adventure so no non-Europe locations. I thought the first episode was ok. As usual, the scenery was great and I loved the massive greenhouse. I like a couple of teams and dislike a couple, thankfully one of which was eliminated. I don’t know how much prep time they had but some of the teams seemed to have no clue (pun intended) that they would have to be active, not just sit around a house. Of the remaining, the mother/daughter are already on my nerves as is the crier. I like the father/daughter, the twins who are not actually twins (Turbanators made me chuckle) and a couple of the sister groups.
I thought the episode was choppy. We saw a couple of people find the clue, then suddenly everyone was riding a bike. We didn’t really see people struggle with stacking the cheese, just everyone taking off and making it to the end to get a clue. Same thing with the flowers - normally they show us 3rd attempt or 17th attempt or something that gives us an idea how difficult a challenge was.
