guys just curious. what happens if you give wrong information in your high school transcript? i mean if you change the marks and stuff? and then get the school seal. i mean there is no way that the colleges can track that the transcript is fake. its an advantage isnt it?

@darthspawnus- welcum back! I am actually facing probs regarding the financial
documents. it wud b great if I cud get some more tym 4 those.

@akashdip-at the end of the day it does come down to ur honesty.

no no you are not getting my point. its nothing im planning to do. i just wanna know whether its possible or not. and that the colleges should be made aware of these loopholes in their mechanism. btw how can the colleges overlook this? its absolutely ridiculously easy to do such a thing. anyone who has marks in 70s could change it to 90s. it wouldnt be fair then would it?

btw in case u are wondering i get marks in 90s always. and i have a good chance to be the valedictorian too.

Well said hopeless1

Arrgh you know what? Every time I to write hopeless, I end up writing hopeful :p

@akashdip: Dude grades are grades. Getting 100/100 and 90/100 are all the same if A is say 80 and above/100. American schools just check your grades. Also if you get accepted colleges might verify it with your school so its best not to do anything of that sort. You could be rescinded and worse barred from entering USA.

Also its not an advantage. American universities don’t discriminate between a student who got 90 and a student who got 100. Trust me. That is the mentality of us South Asians as education in our part of the world is so competitive.

@akashdip-probably u got me wrong. I just meant that unis may not have resources to verify such minute details lyk 7o & 90! so it cums down to the honesty of an individual. I didnt necessarily doubt ur intentions.

@darthspawnus-if i can make it to US, I will change my id 2 hopeful! :)

oh man why dont you guys get my point? im NOT doing such an illegal thing!!! and deathspawnus you told it yourself. if the colleges verify with school. what if the school helps the guy out. especially here in SE Asia schools care more about sending students to big colleges and revving up their name. so some of the schools here can definitely do such a thing. i wanna tell that have the colleges never known this loophole? or does it just not matter?

p.s. im saying this as it would really frustrate me if a 50s guy who changed his marks to 100s competes against me and wins this rat race!!

Don’t worry akashdip no one is against you :)

I understand the frustration. In the end these guys won’t get admitted. If you are honest and sincere, your essays will show that

And oh yes I have said that. But do remember that college is an extension of high school, albeit a bigger extension. So one can make up all things and get in but do remember that person has to live up to the fake persona he/she created and I don’t think that would be nice. Just as there has been instances of people faking it, there also has been instances of people failing to live up to all the hype they created in the application and ultimately coming back.

cool. thanks for the consolation. and do you think both 80s and 90s are ‘A’ grade? too bad then.

Umm well here in Bangladesh and especially in schools operating under British curriculum, only grades are given out and no one really cares about marks as long as you get an A grade.

If you are under CBSE board or under Calcutta Board, then I have no clue how it works. But rest assure that plenty of students from India go to top colleges who were under central or district board and colleges are well aware of the difference between and 80 and 90.

thanks. and can you plz tell me what was your total budget for applying. i mean giving sat 1 and sat 2 and sending common app and college application fee and fee for using DHL or fedex and toefl and all. in short how much did you spend in preparing for applying to us colleges.
i have to know this answer plz. and i gotta tell this to my mum and dad.

Let see: I am applying to around 10 schools in USA.

-I took SAT twice and SAT subject test once so that is something like $ 245
-I used score choice so I got waivers for around 4 school. Will have to send scores to 6 more places so that is 6 x 10= $60
-In Bangladesh, DHL places a flat rate on student application packages of Taka 1950 which roughly translates to around $ 26 per application. For 10 application it would be something like $ 260.

 • I will be applying for fee waivers to the schools.
 • Luckily most of the schools I am applying don’t require CSS profile so I won’t have to spend money on that
 • Also since I studied at English medium schools for 14 years, my TOEFL will be waived.

At the end, total I might have to spend is $ 565. There are of course miscellaneous costs such as photocopying transcripts, buying files etc.

english medium guys dont have to give TOEFL!!! yeah yeah yeah!!!

do all colleges accept the application fee waiver?

and can you name the schools you are applying to for reference? and i would also like to know if you are applying for full need-based fee waiver for tuition fee.

Yes all colleges accept application fee waiver provided you are eligible for it.

Dartmouth and Columbia for instance waives application fee if your annual family income is less than US $ 30,000. Also some colleges like Gettysburg waives it if you are applying online.

so what colleges are you applying to?

and how do you show your family income? i mean its definitely not just writing down the numbers on a piece of paper. they need documents right?

Yes TOEFL can be waived if:

 1. You studied at an English medium institution for 4-5+ years and the school’s primary language of instruction is English.
 2. You get a certain score in SAT Critical reading. For Brown it is 600 and for Cornell it is 670 so it differs from school to school. Be sure to check with the school’s TOEFL policy

well i have been in a english medium school since i started to go to school .so its applicable for me.

and tell me the colleges you applied to.

Sorry my internet has been disturbing so couldn’t post.

I am very realistic of my chances so I am looking at Liberal Arts colleges like Reed, Bowdoin, Colgate, Hamilton, Macalaster, Kenyon, Bard etc. Will probably apply to Yale and Columbia just for fun.

do these colleges provide full financial aid?

They promise to meet fully demonstrated need provided you can get in.

Every year student from Bangladesh do get in to these schools with full financial aid so thats why I am applying to these places.

thnx for replying and being so active guys @DarthSpawnus: Sure, can we attach docs to PMs? Um kinda new here…also, how many school years’ transcript do we need? Some say 3, some say 4. I studied at one school all my life, and then transferred to another junior college for A’Level. So would I need transcripts from both schools?
