The Cafe Watering Hole: PART DEUX

If they lowered the drinking age and legalized pot, we would have money for bullet trains. Gahh.

Snoop, I bet you wanted to see them. Furrealz.

I refuse to believe no good bands are from/come to Nashville.

And you 1000000000% wanted to see them.

BUT ALCOHOL AND POT ARE THE GATEWAY TO HELL HEATHEN At least that’s how the letters to the editor make it sound. No joke.

And Furrealz are like creepy animal Furbies, and oh my god, I just realized Furby is a combination of the words fur and baby.

Kings of Leon, I suppose. I don’t have money to go see anything anyway, though. So.

Don’t bother, they sucked live, I left mid-set to go see Kid Cudi and Crookers.</p>

The Scene Aesthetic was in Nashville today. C’mon, every girl loves The Scene Aesthetic.

Then I guess I’m not every girl.

ohnoididnotjustgothere.

You can deny it if you want.

Girl Talk, The Decemberists, Andrew Bird. All going to Nashville soon. No excuses, snoop.

I don’t like Girl Talk, and I cannot go to anything because I live 45 minutes away and you seriously think my parents would let me go anywhere?

I don’t even know who I’d want to see live. Maybe Muse. The Killers probably aren’t bad either. But then there are all the people everywhere. Ugh.

I applied for two jobs today. I estimate my chances at getting one of them at 1%.

Ah well, I guess you have to wait till college snoop, only one more year. And you go to Girl Talk for the party, not the music.

The Hood Internet are also playing a couple shows, Joan of Arc is playing for free on the 14th, Owen is playing at the Empty Bottle, the 1900s are playing in Millennium Park tomorrow. You’ll have plenty to choose from.

I heard Owl City for the first time today. I wish I hadn’t.

I wonder who goes to Knoxville, since that is where UTK is, and I will be attending there next year.

Owl City is sleepy.

And if you do go to Knoxville, which you most likely won’t, I’m sure there will be plenty of bands to see.

Lawlz. I’ve heard of exactly six of those groups. I have so much to learn.

But what I was saying is that concerts just aren’t my thing. Even though I’ve never been to a real concert, I don’t see how I’d enjoy being at one. I dislike crowds, the live music is rarely as good as the recordings, it’s impossible to see anything unless you’re up at the front moshing (which I probably won’t do until hell freezes over), and the concerts for mainstream bands can cost way too much money. I suppose I don’t have much to lose by going to random free concerts…

I can now see that getting a campus job is going to be difficult.

Conor Oberst is on that list. Hahahah. Canada.

Also, Skins is my new favorite tv show, and I have discerning taste.

I’m going to study abroad in England, I decided. Because if I wish hard enough, I’ll be British.

I had a dream once that my high school prom was in London, and I faked the London accent perfectly until I said something about “water” to the hotel clerk. I of course used the American pronunciation of water, and then all these people in the lobby were like, “You’re so American. Psh.”

Okay. So I took on the ambitious task of sampling all those bands. Whoever compiled that list must really be into indie.

It’s from a facebook group. Realistically, any list like that is going to be “indie”, considering there isn’t a mainstream band/group/whatever in town every night. And some of it is just local, I mean, I doubt many people know who Tim and Mike Kinsella are outside of Chicago, but all of their bands are popular here, Owen, Joan of Arc, etc. Plus, you’ve got the whole pitchfork influence on the city, lol. Just wait JB, the Chicago music scene is arguably the best in the country, and therefore the continent. I said it, Canadian.

Well, I understand why I hadn’t heard of most of these bands. I like some of them, like Brand New, Sondre Lerche (who I thought would be a French girl instead of a Norwegian guy), Ra Ra Riot, and Asobi Seksu. Health still has me cracking up at the sheer pointlessness. I just expected more…garage band rock and that sort of stuff. There are plenty of punk bands out there that aren’t mainstream.

Lol, I didn’t realize you were looking for punk shows. For garage rock you’d be better off in New York. As far as punk, hell, we’ve got tons of it, but almost all local punk bands suck. Same with ska punk. I have a couple friends who are really into that scene, trust me, not for you.

Don’t turn into a Pitchfork convert, Mike. I hate Pitchfork and their overwrought analyses.

I, on the other hand, am one of those people who gives overwrought explanations to most movies, so maybe I shouldn’t complain.

I’m not looking for any particular shows. See above where I blasted live shows. I’m just sampling everything on that list, as my summer insanity saga continues. And most local punk bands do suck. I went to a crappy pothead show here once, hosted by one of my friends. I was there for ten minutes before my groupies and I decided to get ice cream. At least the ice cream smell won’t get you stopped by the cops.

Oh, and I just saw a little bit of Skins. I lawled when I saw the subtitles in English.
